San Manuel Yamaha Race Report: Jacksonville

Courtesy of L&M  Racing
LOS ANGELES, CA - Moving south, the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, ran the 12th stop of the series at Jacksonville, Florida's Municipal Stadium.  Before a Saturday evening crowd of 38,321, Team San Manuel's Josh Hill finished seventh still remaining third in the overall championship points race with 206 points. Teammate and current Supercross Champion, James Stewart, continues extensive rehabilitation on his right wrist and is hoping to make his return to racing at the Houston stop of the series on April 10th.

Hill ran Heat Race 2 finishing the eight-lap heat fifth for the direct transfer to the Main. In the Main event Hill was fast out of the gate running the first portion of the race with the top 5 riders.  At the halfway point, Hill was still running a steady race right up until the very last lap holding onto a seventh place spot and more importantly maintaining valuable points.  Hill's 7th place finish, in the 20-lap race, keeps him 3rd in the overall championship race.

Post race Hill had this to say, “It was a rough race for me tonight but I am going to take advantage of this week off and work hard with my team.  I can't thank the whole San Manuel Yamaha team enough for all of their hard work and continued awesome support - I am very grateful!”

Ti Lube Brown Motorsports Race Report...Jacksonville

Courtesy of TiLube/Brown Motorsports
RIVERSIDE, Calif. -  In Jacksonville, Fla. this past weekend, 38000+ fans were in attendance to watch the 11th round of the 17-race Monster Energy AMA Supercross series.

This weekend’s event was at the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, adjacent to the St. Johns River, in the heart of downtown Jacksonville. With this being an open stadium and clouds in the sky, everyone was hoping the rain would hold off. Luckily it did and the fans were treated to a fantastic evening of racing.

Nick Wey qualified well into the night program via the eighth position. This placed him in the first Supercross class heat race and with a good start, and consistent laps, he qualified directly into the main event with a strong fifth place finish.

Wey lined up directly next to the dog house on the start gate. As the gate dropped for the main event, Wey charged into the first turn but was pinched off by the other 19 riders and came out with an uncharacteristically back-of-the-pack start. Approaching the last corner before the finish line a rider came into the corner under Wey much too quickly and was not able to control his motorcycle. The out of control rider and motorcycle crashed into Wey and both riders went down. Fortunately, Wey was unhurt and able to pick himself and his motorcycle up and continue the race. He crossed the line in 17th on lap one. The riders in front of Wey quickly spread out on the track as he rode his bent Kawasaki 450 as fast as he could in an effort to regain as many positions as possible. Wey went on to finish 12th.

After the race Wey commented “I felt great in practice and was happy with my qualifying position. My heat race was solid with some of my most competitive lap times of the season, so I was pumped for the main. In the main I got out to a great jump but got hung up and came out of the first turn last. The first few laps I was moving up quick trying my best to make passes and move up. Unfortunately I got together with another rider and went down around the half-way point. I rode hard for the rest of the race but was only able to get back to 12th. I have a lot of motivation to work hard the next couple of weeks.”

Next weekend the series takes a break for the Easter holiday and will resume on April 10, 2010 in Houston Texas for the thirteenth round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series. Be sure to stop by the TiLUBE-Brown Motorsports truck to show your support and to have your picture taken with Nick Wey from 12:30 pm – 5:30 pm. See you there!

Honda of Troy Race Report...Jacksonville

Courtesy of Honda of Troy
Honda of Troy once again raised the bar in Jacksonville, qualifying all 4 riders directly into the main from the heat races and The Troy Team owned 1/5 of the field in the lites main event. The Team invited veteran Kelly Smith to fill in for the injured Darryn Durham. Kelly was recovering from his own injury-a broken leg he obtained at the third round of the arenacross series nearly 9 weeks ago. So, with only 20 minutes of seat time, Kelly was willing to step-up and fill the shoes of Durham for the weekend. Also on the mend and not quite sure if he was going to be able to pull the trigger to race, was Levi Kilbarger. Last week he was on his way to securing the main event holeshot when he was devoured by the field in a first turn crash. Levi could barely complete the Jacksonville track walk due to a severe hematoma and deep thigh bruise but his "never say die" attitude led him to ride practice to see how he felt. With a lot of ice, massage, and heart he pushed on and would ride through the night and into the main.

Heat 1:
Fill-in rider Kelly Smith, Levi  Kilbarger, and Sean Lipanovich all stormed out of the gate and put themselves in the top 4 spots at the end of lap one. #412 Kilbarger put together a solid ride to secure a 4th place finish and a 7th pick at the main event gate. #107 Kelly Smith shook off the rust and netted a 6th place heat finish . In one of the more exciting races of the night was Sean Lipanovich securing the final transfer spot.

Heat 2:
#92 Michael Willard was the lone HOT rider in heat 2. Michael had an inside gate pick and when they rounded the first corner he fought his way into 5th place. #92 battled his way to a 4th place heat finish and a 8th gate pick in the main. The team was on a high putting all 4 guys in the main, straight out of the heat races – thankfully no LCQ for the HOT Team.

Main:
The long 110 yard start allowed the Eleven 10 mods horsepower to shine. The team netted great starts all night long and the main was no different. Kelly Smith rocketed out of the gate from the outside and nabbed the $1000 holeshot prize. With Sean Lipanovich a very close second and Kilbarger and Willard back mid pack. The tight technical track took a toll on the team in the main claiming Willard first on lap 5. One of the long table top sections spit the #92 to the dirt and out of the race with a tender wrist and forearm. One straight away later the whoop section claimed Lipanovich-ejecting him off of his bike-but Sean regrouped and rejoined the race. That same whoop section would claim Kilbarger as well, he also was able to remount and continue the race. With his very limited time back on a bike Kelly Smith admitted that he paced himself a little too much because he was unsure how much he had in the tank. At the end of the night, the Troy Team finished with Kelly Smith 14th, Kilbarger 16th, Lipanovich 17th, and Willard 18th. Winning the Holeshot award allowed Kelly Smith an interview and chance to thank all of our Team Sponsors. As the weeks roll on each Honda of Troy rider brings a little more to the table. Everyone is looking forward to a weekend off to allow the guys to recover and gear up for Houston.

The Honda of Troy/Kilbarger Racing Team would like to acknowledge the sponsors who make this effort possible.

Husaberg Factory riders Mike Lafferty and Nick Fahringer finished 3rd and 4th at the fourth round of the AMA National Enduro Series.
KALGARY, Tex. The first of six sections proved to be challenging for both riders as Lafferty rode tight in the first section losing some seconds to the leaders. Fahringer reported, “I had a novice rider pull out in front of me on the section and I lost time trying to get around him.”

After the halfway point both riders picked up the pace and began to gain back precious seconds. Fahringer turned the fastest time in the fourth section and remained competitive with his times through the fifth and sixth section to finish 4th overall. Lafferty finished 3rd in the fourth section, had a strong showing in the fifth and won the final test section of the day to move himself onto the podium with a 3rd place finish. “It feels good to land on the podium today. WIMMER AND SUZUKI WIN ATV SEASON OPENER

Team Suzuki Press Office - March 29.

Reigning AMA Pro ATV Champion Dustin Wimmer started his defence of the 2010 title with overall victory on his Suzuki QuadRacer R450 at Sunday’s opener at Mill Creek Raceway in Pell City, Alabama.

Wimmer, who has won the last six motos at the hilly facility, said: “I definitely felt less pressure than in previous years, but I’m here to win, make no mistake about that.”

Team mate Josh Creamer, who finished on the podium in third, said: “Everyone out here wants to ride these bikes for this team. My Suzuki QuadRacer R450 is the fastest bike I’ve ever raced and it does everything well. The team is the best and I’m looking to pay back Suzuki’s confidence in me by performing and being up on the podium at every round.”

Threatening storms cleared out just before the start of the Main Event and the gate dropped under blue skies and sunshine. Creamer pulled a huge holeshot and quickly put a three-second gap on second placed Wimmer. The race for the top-five positions was very close until about midway when Wimmer passed Creamer for first and then slowly started to pull away to a six-second lead. In the meantime, Creamer left a small door open, was bumped, and missed a berm, dropping several positions in the process. By race end, Wimmer won by a comfortable five seconds while Creamer crossed the line in sixth place.

The second moto started just like the first with Creamer grabbing another clean holeshot over Wimmer. The fuel-injected Rockstar Makita Suzuki QuadRacer R450s scorched the track in a yellow blur as both riders distanced themselves from the pack.

As in the first moto, about mid-distance, Wimmer was able to get by Creamer for the lead, but this time Creamer stayed with him and the two ran nose-to-tail. The two riders pulled a large gap on the rest of the pack and were in a league all to themselves, taking one-two for a truly dominating finish.

Said Wimmer: “I love this track, and with the weather holding off I felt pretty good about my chances today. My Rockstar Makita Suzuki QuadRacer R450 got me the good starts I needed and I was able to ride steady and smooth: It paid off and I couldn’t be happier. It was a great way to start off the new season.”

Added Creamer: “My goal is to be on the podium at every race, so this result is good. I always want to win, but I made a couple slight mistakes and paid for it. Overall though, I’m pretty happy. My Suzuki is so fast and I’m really happy with the two holeshots. I think this year is going to be really good. I’m really loving this bike and the team is awesome. I’m going to settle into some training back down in Florida and come out really strong for the next race. I can’t wait for Bowling Green.”

Team Manager Kevin Mummah was happy with the results as well. He said: “It’s always a good thing to start a season off with a win. To have both of our guys up on the podium was even better. There are a lot of fast guys out here this year and it’s clear that several riders have stepped up their game so it’s going to be a long, tough season, but it’s clear the Suzuki is the Quad to beat and that our riders are ready to win.”

Overall results:

1. Dustin Wimmer (Rockstar Makita Suzuki)
2. Chad Wienen
3. Josh Creamer (Rockstar Makita Suzuki)
4. John Natalie
5. Josh Upperman
6. Jeremy Lawson
7. Thomas Brown

Rockstar Makita Suzuki Riders Podium in Jacksonville

Courtesy of Suzuki
Jacksonville, Florida – Some of the best dirt of the series is found at the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars. This year, the dirt and the layout at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium were both excellent and a great night of racing was had for the fans and Rockstar Makita Suzuki riders Ryan Dungey (#5) and Austin Stroupe (#45).

In the Eastern Regional Lites class heat race, Austin Stroupe’s RM-Z250 powered him up into second before the end of lap one. On lap two, Stroupe moved into the lead and instantly pulled a sizeable gap for the win.

In the first 450cc Supercross heat race, Dungey got a fourth place start but passed up to second by the end of lap one. Although he closed down the gap on the leader of the heat, he was unable to pull off the win.

With the heats out of the way, it was time for the main event action. Dungey, having almost a full race points lead, was out to add even more. Stroupe, sitting five points out of championship lead in second, was looking to get a win and be the leader of the Lites pack.

Austin got a second-place start. By lap four, the top three riders were bunched up. While attempting to pass the leader, the leader bobbled and Austin collided with him briefly. This allowed the third place rider to pass both of them. The next lap Stroupe passed back into second and started the tough job of trying to close down the gap to the leader. In spite of closing up to within one second, it was not to be and Austin had to settle for another second place. The good news is that he is still right there in the points hunt.

"I had a good start and got into second but Pourcel got past me and I tried to make a charge for the lead but couldn't," Stroupe explained. "It was a good night though, winning my heat race and getting on the podium."

At the start of the Supercross Main, Dungey's Suzuki RM-Z450 came out of the gate in fourth, bobbled and ended up fifth. After some solid racing, Dungey slowly closed in on second place, while the top three riders slowly started to form a group. About midway through the race, Ryan caught and passed second. At the checkers, Ryan had to settle for second but still enjoys a commanding points lead.

“I went in to pass Windham, and my front end tucked a little,” Dungey said. “We made some contact and I lost a ton of time. I finally passed him a few laps later, but by then it was a long way up to the lead. I rode hard, but tonight we’ll just have to settle for second."

Roger DeCoster reflected on the evening after the race. "Of course, it would have been better to win. All of the fast guys in front of him, and when he got up to Windham he tried to make a pass and tangled a little with him a little and tweaked the front end. Then the bike was twisted in the front and that made him make more mistakes. Once that happened, I was happy with second. Austin did a really good job, especially considering that he has some tweaked thumb ligaments from his crash on the start last week. So with a sprained thumb, to finish a close second was good."

The series takes a break next weekend, and then picks up the action in Houston on April 10th.

Press Releases Demuth Wins To Capture Third AMA Arenacross Series Championship on Night One in Denver

Courtesy of Feld Motorsports

Catanzaro Wins Lites Western Regional Title for GPF Championship Sweep
DENVER, Colo. (March 26, 2010) – It was a night of champions inside the Denver Coliseum as night one of the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series finale from Denver crowned a pair of champions in both the AMA Arenacross class and the AMA Arenacross Lites Western Regional Championship. In the premier class, it was Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLUBE Kawasaki’s Josh Demuth, of North Richland Hills, Texas, capturing his sixth win of the season en route to claiming his third AMA Arenacross Series title. A first-time winner stood atop the podium in the Western Regional Championship, but it was GPF/Babbitt’s Kawasaki rookie A.J. Catanzaro, of Middlefield, Conn., who relied on a runner-up effort to secure his first-career championship.
As the gates dropped on the AMA Arenacross class main event, it would be a battle between Babbitt’s teammates and close friends Demuth and Chad Johnson, of Rhinelander, Wis., to determine the outcome of the 2010 title. Coming into the race, Demuth held a 22-point lead over his teammate, putting Johnson in a must-win situation in order to stay alive in the title hunt heading into Saturday night’s final race.
Tuf Honda’s Heath Voss, of Mico, Texas, took advantage of the opportunity to compete on one of the series’ best rides, grabbing the holeshot and the early lead. As the 25-lap main event approached the halfway point, Voss looked to have things in control but tipped over heading into the rhythm section. Demuth was able to take advantage of Voss’ misfortune and led the rest of the way while Triple Effect Kawasaki’s Gray Davenport, of Lehi, Utah, kept him honest with a runner-up effort. Voss recovered to rebound third.
With a healthy 20-point lead over his closest competitor, Catanzaro could take a conservative approach to the 18-lap main event. U Motors Honda’s Tanner Redimann, of Bismarck, N.D., grabbed the holeshot off the gate and went on to dominate the remainder of the race, leading every lap for his first-career arenacross victory. Catanzaro’s runner-up effort was enough to take the Western Regional Championship while Gnarbars/Colorado Powersports Honda’s Kyle Calderini, of Colorado Springs, Colo., finished third in front of his hometown crowd.
The 19th and final race of the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series kicks-off tomorrow night from the Denver Coliseum, beginning at 7 p.m. MT.
Tickets for all rounds of the 2010 season can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com and www.arenacross.com.

Glen Helen Out of National Series

Courtesy of MX Sports
MORGANTOWN, W.V. – MX Sports Pro Racing announced today the postponement of the Glen Helen round of the 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, citing contractual differences with the promoter of the San Bernardino, Calif., facility. The second-round event, which was originally scheduled for Glen Helen Raceway on May 29, 2010, is now being slated for September 11.
“This was a difficult decision, but ultimately, we simply were not able to come to contractual terms with Glen Helen Raceway,” said Davey Coombs, Vice President of MX Sports Pro Racing. “By moving the date to September 11, we will have time to find a suitable venue. BORICH TAKES CONTROL WITH MORGANTON WIN

Team Suzuki Press Office - March 23.

Chris Borich and his Suzuki QuadRacer R450 took the top spot on the podium at the third round of the GNCC series this weekend at Steele Creek in Morganton, North Carolina - and now leads the series on 85 points.

The win is Borich’s second of the season and the defending 2009 GNCC ATV champion is on track to have another winning season on his Suzuki.

Borich ran in third for most of the two-hour-long race, making his winning pass on the last lap of the 11.2-mile course. Said Borich: “My Quad worked awesome all day. I sat back and waited for people to make mistakes because it was basically a one-line track. I was able to capitalise and come in with a victory. Everything is going good this year and I have basically the same set-up as last year when I won the Championship. So we’re going to keep getting that Yoshimura Suzuki back on the podium.”

Round 4 of the GNCC series takes place at Union, South Carolina on April 10-11.

RIP Jesse Masterpool

Courtesy of The Masterpool Family
Here’s the family statement:

03.21.10

Official Statement from the Masterpool Family:

Due to the injuries Jesse sustained, he passed away early Saturday morning.
We all feel you are now part of the family. We didn’t want anyone speaking for us in these letters and because of this we have not done the job that all of you wonderful people deserve. Jesse was extremely passionate, positive, and considerate of how his actions might affect other people. We felt he would not want to bring this news to the riders or the fans attending last night’s supercross race. He would want the riders to focus and ride their best and the fans to celebrate in their efforts.
One of Jesse’s favorite movies was “Remember the Titans”. He felt strongly enough to wear it on his butt patch; it was a part of him. Not just a movie, but like his own name.
The passion that brought such different people together dissolved old feelings between them – to see what they truly felt. Inside the soul, they were not different after all. As crazy as it may seem to Jesse and many riders, the butt patch is sacred. It is your name. It is you. It can’t be bought by a sponsor. It is a passionate symbol of who that rider is. Your passion, faith and love have brought us all together.
We all feel Jesse’s spirit; Jesse is now a part of all of us. Jesse brought us all together. We know what Jesse would want us to do.
God Bless
Love,
Jesse and the Masterpool Family

Rockwell Time Race Report: Dallas

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (March 22, 2010) Rockwell Time’s newest athlete, Justin Barcia, had a strong showing this past weekend under the lights of the new Cowboys Stadium in Dallas Texas. After qualifying a strong second behind Stroupe in the first Lites heat race, Justin was unfortunately tangled up in the first turn disaster of the Lites main event. Barcia battled back to the front of the pack and finished on the podium with a third place; impressive when you consider Justin had no front brake for a good portion of the race. Justin now sits third in points, just twenty points behind Stroupe. Rockwell’s other Lites rider, Jake Moss, unfortunately collided with Troy Adams on the second lap of the Lites main and, after not being able to finish, was awarded an 18th place finish.
After winning the first Supercross heat race, Rockwell Team rider Davi Millsaps grabbed a great start in the main and after the first lap, was running third behind Dungey and Hill. After passing Hill on lap four, Davi held on to second for the remainder of the race, holding off a hard charging Canard. Davi currently sits 4th in points. Rockwell Team riders Chris Blose and Ryan Clarke also found their way into the Supercross main event and finished 14th and 17th respectively.

GEICO MiniMotoSX salutes Dallas SX Lites winner Blake Baggett, 2009 MMSX Youth champ!

GEICO MiniMotoSX salutes Dallas SX Lites winner Blake Baggett, 2009 MMSX Youth champ!
Baggett, who rides minis for Red Baron, is the defending champ in Youth 10” & 12” – says he hopes to defend his mini titles this May 7th in Vegas

ANAHEIM, Calif. (March 22, 2010) GEICO Powersports MiniMotoSX, presented by Monster Energy, would like to congratulate its 2009 Youth 10” and 12” champion – Rockstar/Suzuki’s Blake Baggett - on his first Supercross Lites win this past weekend at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.

Baggett, who runs the Red Baron brand minis at the GEICO MMSX, is a rookie on the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, tour and easily one of the fastest mini bike racers in the world.

“Everyone at GEICO MiniMotoSX was pumped to hear that Blake won the Dallas Lites main event,” said Mike Karsting, VP of Events for Source Interlink Media. “Blake’s one of our top young mini bike racers and ran the table last year in both the Youth 10 and 12-inch (rim) classes.

“It’s good to see he’s taken all he’s learned on our mini track at the Orleans and applied it to Cowboys Stadium,” added Karsting with a laugh.

A likeable, supremely fast mini bike racer with style to burn, Baggett – should he be cleared to race GEICO MMSX this May 7th – will move up to MMSX’s premier “Expert” class to battle the likes of Costella, his Red Baron teammate Blose, Browning, Pingree, Abrigo and Lawrence. At that point, should he qualify, Baggett would be able to contest for the new GEICO MMSX World Final.

“I’m not 100% sure if I’m going to be able to race MiniMotoSX or not … depends where I’m at in the points and what my Rockstar Suzuki team says,” said Baggett. “But I really hope so. I’m ready and Red Baron has my bikes ready to go.”

Added Red Baron’s LeAnn McElyea: “We are very proud of Blake. Everyone at Red Baron was glued to the TV watching his every move and we were so excited when he won. Blake is a part of our family and we’re just so happy for him. We’ll have Blake’s bikes ready to go for Vegas - you can count on that. We’re all hoping his Rockstar Suzuki Team gives him the green light.”

Also: For the first time ever, MMSX at the Orleans will feature electric bikes competing head-to-head with the combustion bikes in the 16” class. After years of being an exhibition class, electric bikes will finally get the chance to see if they can hold it down against the gasoline-powered bikes. Will they be able to keep up? Could they dominate? Are they gonna get waxed? You’ll have to be in Vegas on May 7th to find out!

NOTE: The event track map is posted on www.minimotosx.com

The annual GEICO MiniMotoSX, presented by Monster Energy, is the largest indoor motorsports competition of its kind. With more than 600 registered riders in 2009 the event literally allows for mini bike enthusiasts to become part of the show. As one racer put it: “At GEICO MiniMotoSX you don’t just show up and watch racing in Vegas – you boot up and get on the track yourself to race in front of a packed house at the Orleans.” Featuring numerous classes at all age and ability levels, GEICO MiniMotoSX delivers an unforgettable day of racing action for both fans and racers alike, along with an affordable ‘Vegas experience’ given the hotel and ticket package at the Orleans Hotel and Arena. Registration for the event is open right now on www.minimotosx.com

DUNGEY RACES TO VICTORY IN DALLAS

DUNGEY RACES TO VICTORY IN DALLAS

Team Suzuki Press Office - March 21.

Ryan Dungey has increased his lead in the AMA/ FIM Supercross to 24 points after taking the win at Saturday night’s 11th round in Dallas, Texas.

The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider led from lap one of the 20-lap Main Event at the brand-new Cowboys Stadium in front of 49,000 fans to beat Honda’s Davi Millsaps by 1.3 seconds.

“It was awesome,” said Dungey said after his win. “Everyone did a great job and we made some good changes and things were clicking right away and I was really happy with that. I put together a good heat, and when I got to the Main Event I was just trying to get out front. When I got in the lead, I just tried to put in consistent laps. Around the whole track, my RM-Z450 was working great and the Dunlop tyres did a great job.”

Team Manager Roger DeCoster was happy with Dungey’s entire day of racing from practice to podium. He said: “The last two weeks, Ryan was really conservative, and when you’re in the points lead, that’s kind of the tendency. You have a points lead to protect, and the other guy has no choice but to try to reel you in. But there’s a fine line between being conservative and aggressive enough.”
Dungey made some key passes at the start of the race that set him up for the win; his fourth of the 2010 season.

In the Eastern Regional Lites class, Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Austin Stroupe was also setting himself up for a great night: Stroupe was the second fastest after qualifying practice, and he went on to win his heat race. He was consistent and smooth on the track going into the Main Event, where he shot out of the gate and was approaching the holeshot when a number of racers failed to negotiate the first turn and took out many riders. Stroupe got caught in the tangle and went down, suffering a mild concussion, but he managed to put together a strong effort despite his injury and finished in fifth, gaining two points on the series leader.

“There was a lot of bad luck for Stroupe,” said DeCoster. “It’s a shame that we didn’t win tonight because Austin was looking like he was the fastest guy out there. But it’s awesome that our support team, the Rockstar Energy Suzuki team, took the win. I’m really happy for Blake Baggett and Bill Keefe. It’s pretty awesome. He did a good job and got a little bit lucky, but he kept it together at the end and ran a smart race.”

The series moves to Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday, March 27.

Supercross Main Event: 1. Ryan Dungey (Rockstar Makita Suzuki); 2. Davi Millsaps (Honda); 3. Trey Canard (Honda); 4. Ryan Villopoto (Kawasaki); 5. Justin Brayton (Yamaha); 6. Josh Hill (Yamaha); 7. Kevin Windham (Honda); 8. Kyle Chisholm (Yamaha); 9. Jason Lawrence (Yamaha); 10. Tommy Hahn (Suzuki).
