VP Introduces C50 Fuel

Courtesy of  VP Fuels

SAN ANTONIO, TX – VP Racing Fuels today introduced C50™, a truly revolutionary racing fuel designed exclusively for 50cc 2-stroke motorcycles.  “C50 is the result of extensive testing with Cobra Moto, the premier manufacturer of 50cc bikes,” said Steve Burns, VP’s Founder and Director of R&D.  “With this fuel, the same winning technology that powers the top factory Supercross riders is now available to young amateur riders who represent the next generation of champions.”
“In a stock 50, C50 race fuel exceeded expectations,” said Phil McDowell, Chief Engineer for Cobra Moto. "In more than 10 years of testing 50cc motorcycles at Cobra, I’ve tried over 40 different race fuels and this is the first one that works."

“C50 showed measurable improvement across all performance parameters - more horsepower, more torque and better throttle response,” Burns added.  “It also enabled us to achieve a consistent, reliable tune which was eye-opening, given that OEMs have told us they’ve never before had a race fuel for a 50cc bike that worked well every day in varying conditions.”

C50 is unleaded and pre-mixed with a top quality JASO FD-rated, certified premium oil at a 50:1 ratio, so no measuring or mixing is required.  It’s also ethanol-free, which prevents the damage that occurs with ethanol-blended street gas which fouls carburetors, degrades rubber and plastic parts, and goes bad after just a few weeks in storage.

C50 will work well in Cobra motorcycles and all other 50cc 2-stroke competitive racing applications.
For technical questions about C50 or advice on tuning, contact VP’s Tech Support staff at 812-878-2420 or motorcycletech@vpracingfuels.com.

Webb Leads Western Regional 250SX Class Back to Angel Stadium

AURORA, Ill. (January 26, 2015) -This Saturday night in Anaheim, California, Red Bull KTM's Ryan Dungey will lead the world's best racers back to the third and final Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, race at Angel Stadium in 2015, just one week after taking over the points lead in at the previous race in Oakland, California. In the Western Regional 250SX Class Championship, Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha's Cooper Webb maintains his hold on the points lead and will lead the field into Anaheim.

Saturday night's race will air live on FOX Sports 1 at 7:00 p.m. PST/10:00 p.m. EST.

Live coverage from Anaheim will also be available on the authenticated FOX Sports Go app.

Media Day will take place Thursday, January 29, at 12 Noon PST at Angel Stadium featuring Cycle Trader/Rock River Yamaha, Team Yoshimura Suzuki, and Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Red Bull/KTM

On Saturday, January 31, fans can Log on to www.SupercrossLive.comto watch Race Day Live with Jim Holley and Andy Bowyer from 12:50 p.m. PST/3:50 p.m. EST to 4:50 p.m. PST/7:50 p.m. EST

Some key insights to watch heading into this Saturday night's race:

  • How will Ryan Dungey respond to gaining control of the points lead? Will he be able to win the third race at Anaheim for the second time in his career?
  • Can Ken Roczen rebound from a crash in Oakland, where he finished 15th and lost control of the points lead, to sweep Anaheim and join the elite group of James Stewart and Chad Reed as the only riders to win all three races in Anaheim in the same season?
  • Can Trey Canard go back-to-back? It would be the first time Honda has won consecutive 450SX Class races since Kevin Windham won St. Louis and Seattle in 2008. Canard could also become the first back-to-back winner of the 2015 season.
  • Could there be a fourth different 450SX Class winner in five races?
  • Can Justin Barcia, Cole Seely, Davi Millsaps or Andrew Short earn their first podium result? They are the only riders in the top 10 in the 450SX Class standings yet to do so.
  • Will Jason Anderson be able to give Husqvarna its first win in its return to the sport, also earning his first career 450SX Class victory by doing so?
  • Will the momentum of his first podium of the season thrust Chad Reed into contention for a win, just two weeks after a black flag disqualified him from the second race at Anaheim?
  • Can Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki get its first win of the season before the West Coast swing is over?
  • Will the brewing tension between Western Regional 250SX Class title contenders Cooper Webb and Tyler Bowers erupt in Anaheim and result in a major swing in the championship battle?
  • Can Malcolm Stewart follow up his first career 250SX Class win with another strong performance?

Team Honda's Trey Canard became the third different winner in the first four races of the 2015 Monster Energy Supercross Championship, passing Discount Tires/TwoTwo Motorsports' Chad Reed on Lap 6 and riding to his first win since Arlington, Texas, back in 2011. With a win this weekend, Canard can give Honda its first back-to-back wins since Kevin Windham did so in 2008 with victories in St. Louis and Seattle. It was a huge way for Canard to bounce back from a controversial race in Anaheim the previous weekend, when he and Reed had a pair of incidents that ultimately resulted in a black flag for the Australian rider and an 11th-place finish for Canard. As fate would have it, the battle for the win in Oakland came down to Canard and Reed, but this time there was clean racing between the two riders, who have both moved past their conflict.

"I don't know what to say," said Canard following the win in Oakland. "I didn't think I would be on the podium after the first few laps; it was busy out there. It has been a long haul to get here on top of the podium, and I am really happy about it."

Heading into Oakland, RCH Soaring Eagle/Jimmy John's Factory Suzuki's Ken Roczen held a 12-point lead in 450SX Class standings over Dungey, but a crash off a triple jump after passing Reed for second on Lap 1 forced Roczen to reenter the race at the tail end of the field. Battered and bruised, Roczen salvaged a 15th-place finish but gave up his points lead in a 16-point swing that fell in Dungey's favor. It also signified the first time this season that Roczen failed to lead a lap in the Main Event. His first two wins of the season came in Anaheim, and the German rider, who has never finished off the podium in his five career starts in Anaheim, hopes to become the third rider in history to sweep all three races with a win this weekend.

Dungey turned in his second consecutive runner-up finish and now has a four-point lead in the 450SX Class standings. The most consistent rider in the field, Dungey is the only rider to finish within the top five at every race this year. Dungey is a past winner at the third race in Anaheim, putting his KTM atop the podium during the 2013 season and he hopes to earn his first victory of the season by repeating that success.

"All things considered, tonight's track was really tough," said Dungey after the race in Oakland. "I wanted to make up some ground on Trey [Canard] for the lead, but it didn't work out. It's nice to take over the points lead, but the season is still young."

Reed's comeback from the black flag he received in the incident with Canard in Anaheim, which is a disqualification from the race, resulted in a season-best third place effort, which moved him into 10th overall in season standings. Reed can pass Jeremy McGrath and James Stewart on the all-time win list in Anaheim with a victory this weekend.

After starting the season in 20th place, GEICO Honda's Eli Tomac turned in his third consecutive top-five finish with a fourth in Oakland. Tomac earned the first 450SX Class win of his career at the second race of the season in Phoenix, and his resurgent consistency since then has helped him climb all the way to fourth in the championship standings.

In his first full year of 450SX Class competition, Team Honda's Cole Seely earned a season-best fifth place in Oakland, which was his first top-five finish in the class since a podium result Indianapolis last year. Seely has rebounded from a pair of 14th-place finishes at the start of the season to post back-to-back top-10 efforts and move into seventh in the 450SX Class championship.

The sequel to Webb versus Tyler Bowers played out Saturday night in Oakland during the Western Regional 250SX Class Main Event. Stemming from a pass by Webb on the last lap of the second race in Anaheim the week prior that forced Bowers' Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki off the track while leading, Bowers responded in Oakland with a forceful pass on Webb while the pair battled through the field in the Main Event. The heavy contact forced Webb to the ground and outside the top 10, but he bounced back with a torrid run through the field, re-passing Bowers en route to a runner-up finish.

Out front, GEICO Honda's Malcolm Stewart, who made his 36th career start on Saturday, was victorious in Oakland, picking up the first Main Event win of his career. Stewart, who led the race in the early stages, was passed by Red Bull KTM's Justin Hill and followed in second place. Stewart would capitalize on a mistake and eventual crash by Hill to retake the lead on Lap 7 and ride to victory.

"This is a big moment for me," said Stewart. "First of all, I want to thank my brother. I want to thank these fans out here tonight; I am an Oakland Raiders fan, so you guys are great. I knew I could do it, and tonight it finally paid off."

Cycle Trader/Rock River Yamaha's Alex Martin finished on the podium with a third place for the first time in his career.

Webb holds and eight-point lead in the championship standings over Bowers, and all eyes will be on the newfound rivals and training partners on Saturday night. With his win, Stewart moved up one spot in the standings and currently sits sixth.

During the first two visits to Angel Stadium this season, Roczen compiled a pair of dominant performances in which he led 39 of the 40 laps across both 450SSX Class Main Events to take a pair of easy victories. The first Western Regional 250SX Class race, Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Red Bull/KTM's Jessy Nelson raced to the first win of his career. Two weeks later, Webb made the dramatic last-lap pass on Bowers to claim his second victory of the season and take over the championship lead.

This weekend's race will mark the 66th Monster Energy Supercross race in Anaheim.

Motorcycle Superstore Partners with The Privateer Journey

Courtesy of Motorcycle Superstore

MEDFORD, Ore – Motorcycle-Superstore.com is proud to announce our partnership with the ultimate privateer Supercross racing support program, The Privateer Journey (TPJ). Led by founder and team manager Ted Parks, The Privateer Journey provides transportation and logistical support for up and coming racers. Any rider who has traveled the Supercross circuit, pitting out of the back of their van and feeling like a privateer can attest to the toll it can take - in addition to having to compete at every race. TPJ offers a full factory experience to the equation that allows these young, up and coming racers to focus on the task at hand: Qualifying for races and gaining valuable experience as they live out their dream.

"The Privateer Journey has been a labor of love for me the past few years," explains Ted Parks, Sr. "Now that our program has a little experience to build from, it is a real joy to have Motorcycle Superstore, one of the industry's most recognizable online retail stores, on board and providing support for these kids. These guys ride their hearts out week in and week out and it is a real honor to be working with each of them, so make sure to come by and say hi to them at the races, they'll really appreciate the support."

TPJ riders own their own bikes and pay their own way into each round. They don't have a factory ride just yet - but they are hoping to catch someone's eye while they are learning the ropes. These are the guys that are on the bubble each and every weekend so a trip to the Main Event is not guaranteed, but the experience of battling against the best Supercross riders in the world, representing the underdog in every way makes the TPJ riders endearing to anyone who has aspired to be a part of something bigger. These are the working class racers and Motorcycle-Superstore.com is happy to help them as they make their dreams of racing Supercross a reality.

"We are pleased to be supporting The Privateer Journey team run by Ted Parks for 2015," says Scott Huddleston, Motorcycle-Superstore VP of Marketing. "Motorcycle Superstore appreciates the amount of hard work Ted is putting in to support riders who do not receive anything from the factory teams. The riders on The Privateer Journey team are chasing their dream of being in the main event each weekend and eventually getting off of privateer-island and onto a factory race team like former TPJ rider Weston Peick. Gannon Audette is returning to Team Legends and Heroes in 2015 to contest the 250SX East Region of Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, the team has announced.

After suffering season-ending injuries at the East Region opener in Dallas in 2012 and 2013, Audette, a two-time Loretta Lynn Amateur National Champion, compeleted his first season of supercross last year, finishing seventeenth in the East Region. Audette’s best finish was an eighth last year at the season finale in Las Vegas, as the team mentioned above.

Audette and his mechanic, Brandon Schultz, will travel to all the East Coast rounds with the Legends and Heroes Moto 1 Museum rig.

Bell Helmets Named Official Helmet of Monster Energy Pro Circuit Racing Team

Courtesy of Bell Helmets

Bell Helmets, an industry leader in helmet technology and innovation, and Pro Circuit Racing, the most winning team in supercross and motocross, today announced a partnership, in which Bell will be the official helmet for the 250 team.

“Bell has 60-years of experience innovating powersports and bicycle head protection, plus incredible resources from its sister companies Riddell and Giro, which has culminated into the revolutionary custom-fit technology and Moto-9 Flex,” said Mitch Payton, Pro Circuit Founder & Team Manager.

“Our long-standing relationship with Bell, plus its major advancement in technology and safety gave us the ultimate confidence to re-align our riders with the leader in off-road helmets.”
The 250 team lineup of Adam Cianciarulo, Joey Savatgy, Chris Alldredge, Tyler Bowers and Arnaud Tonus will wear both Bell’s radically advanced Moto-9 Flex, and Custom-Fit Moto-9.

“We’re proud to align ourselves with Pro Circuit, a prestigious and successful team with a well respected history in the sport,” said Chris Sackett, Bell Helmets Vice President. “With the high level of competition and increased attention on safety, it’s essential that riders are wearing a helmet that offers the highest level of protection.”

Moto-9 Flex manages energy across a wide array of impact scenarios with its progressive layering system, which utilizes three densities of foam for low, mid, and high-speed impacts. The helmet also has a “slip zone” in the liner, which gives subtle movement between the layers designed to reduce rotation energy transfer from some angular impacts. Riders will also find comfort with the “Adaptive Fit” system, which uses a segmented EPO layer to conform to the rider’s head, plus the helmet incorporates a Velocity Flow Ventilation system, designed to give maximum ventilation and temperature control.

Custom-fit Moto-9s are engineered from a high-tech process of digital mapping, and the use of a proprietary 3D-imaging program, which measures the unique contour of a rider’s head. The process matches the interior of the helmet to the rider’s exact specifications, optimizing stability and increasing overall comfort.

Nick Wey Partners with Holeshot

Courtesy of Holeshot

Phoenix, AZ – Just days before the Monster Energy AMA Supercross arrives in Phoenix, the upstart drive system innovators at HoleShot announced they will be a season-long sponsor for veteran and fan-favorite Nick Wey on his #27 Kawasaki entry in the 450-cc class.

“We designed our products to surpass the performance demands of professional competition, so this is a natural fit and great opportunity to demonstrate when we say ‘Race Tested, Ride Ready,’ we mean our product will exceed the demands of competitors and hobbyists alike,” said AJ Whisler, CEO of HoleShot.

Wey and the Pro Circuit powered Mafia Moto Crew Kawasaki will provide HoleShot’s sprockets its professional motorcycle racing debut at Chase Field on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, which is the second of 16 races that are part of the AMA Supercross season that culminates in May and is considered the world’s premier stadium motorcycle circuit.

“Nick ran our sprockets through a battery of tests before agreeing to do the deal, which is perfectly understandable since we’re a new brand,” add Whisler. “He can speak to his experience during those tests, though I’ll just say that our sprockets exceeded his expectations, and it’s especially nice to be able to welcome Nick to our team during our hometown MX event.”

“I was intrigued by HoleShot because the engineering, detail, and design of the products really takes sprockets to an entirely new level,” said Wey who has always been well-known for his meticulous attention to detail and demand for performance. “I have used a lot of different products over my career and quality and function of HoleShot sprockets is better than any sprocket I have ever had on my race bike."

The state-of-the-art HoleShot sprocket offers a series of unique attributes, including zero oscillation, industry-leading radiused teeth, milled i-beam spoke construction, 2-sided radial mud pack relief and unparalleled detail-to-weight reductions. The combination is not available in any other brand of sprocket.

The 520, 428 and 420 version of the sprockets are available online at Motorcycle Superstore for all late model Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki and KTM brands, as are HoleShot chains that feature European alloys and construction, high stress limits, KSJ bushing technology for less initial stretch, and tight fit master links for reliability.
