2015 Ricky Carmichael signature-designed Daytona track unveiled for inaugural Fly Racing ATVSX race

    Courtesy of ATVMX

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (February 2, 2015) - With just over a month until the opening round of the 2015 Mtn. Dew ATV Motocross National Championship, sanctioned by AMA (ATVMX), at the iconic Daytona International Speedway, MX Sports Pro Racing and the G.O.A.T. himself, Ricky Carmichael, officially unveiled the Carmichael-designed layout that will challenge the world's best ATV riders for the very first time. The Fly Racing ATVSX debut from Daytona will follow the legendary Daytona Supercross and the Ricky Carmichael Daytona Amateur Supercross on Tuesday, March 10.

The 2015 Daytona Supercross track will feature a fresh look, highlighted by the starting gate moving to the west end of the tri-oval towards Turn 1. Additionally, the legendary Daytona racetrack will run in reverse, in a clockwise rotation, something that hasn't been done in quite some time. Carmichael said, "It's so cool to be able to lend a hand in designing one of the most famous tracks in Supercross history, but it's even better to bring that same design to amateur racers and ATV riders in the days that follow."

While the track layout will be almost identical to Saturday's Daytona Supercross by Honda - where the fastest professional racers in the world go to battle - some obstacles and turns will be revamped to accommodate the unique riding style required to navigate a 400-pound ATV across such demanding terrain.

"The track crew will have their work cut out for them as soon as the pro Supercross finishes up on Saturday night," said MX Sports Director Tim Cotter. "We'll have all hands on deck to re-work the Daytona Supercross track and get it ready for amateur competition Sunday morning, and as soon as RCSX wraps up on Monday, we'll be back at it again to prepare for the debut of ATVMX at the speedway."

AIMExpo Organizers Planning Series Of Consumer Motorcycle Shows

    Courtesy of AIMExpo

IRVINE, Calif. (February 3, 2015) – The Marketplace Events (MPE) Motorcycle Group, producers of the highly acclaimed American International Motorcycle Expo (AIMExpo) – one of North America’s fastest-growing trade shows – announced its plans today to produce a new series of events directed at motorcycle and powersports consumers. The shows will be timed to promote 2016 model year products. Locations and dates are to be announced soon.

The Motorcycle Group has quickly established itself as a leader in the powersports arena with the unprecedented success of AIMExpo, quickly becoming the industry’s largest show of its type in just two years.

“Since our earliest research on the viability of the AIMExpo launch (a combined trade/consumer platform new to North America), we’ve been continually asked by key industry players when we would produce a series of consumer-only events,” said Mike Webster, President of MPE’s Motorcycle Group. “Their message has been clear and consistent: the market is underserved from a consumer show perspective. Industry marketers are looking for a more responsive and engaging platform – something welcoming to traditionalists and attractive to new riders. We have no doubt the experiential elements we’re planning will excite all members of our community.”
Webster said the phenomenal success of AIMExpo (entering its third year) makes the timing perfect for the consumer show series.

“In a way, our name (Marketplace Events Motorcycle Group) tells a great tale as we move into the consumer-only arena,” said Larry Little, VP and General Manager of the Motorcycle Group. “Marketplace Events is the largest producer of high-end consumer home and garden shows in North America. The company is deep with experience in consumer event marketing and production – so much so that it has posted double-digit growth since 2009, despite the recession. The Motorcycle Group is deep with experience in the motorcycle and powersports industry. In fact, Mike Webster was a key member of the team who 30+ years ago launched the Great American Motorcycle Shows that pioneered the idea of a nationally promoted series of regional consumer motorcycle shows.”

Tom Baugh, CEO of Marketplace Events stated, “In addition to the new energy our company will bring to the consumer motorcycle series, we’re prepared to put a motorcycling-friendly message before our 1.5 million annual visitors at over 40 other MPE shows. We’re serious about getting new eyeballs exposed to both the recreational and transportation benefits of motorcycling. It was always our intention with the creation of the Motorcycle Group to bring new products to this market.”
Additional details on the consumer motorcycle show series will be announced in the coming months.

Steward Baylor opens Kenda AMA National Enduro Championship Series with win in South Carolina

    Courtesy of NEPG

Sumter, S.C. (February 1, 2015) – Steward Baylor topped a massive field of off-road competitors this weekend, taking an impressive win at the opening round of the 2015 Kenda AMA National Enduro Series in Sumter, S.C.

A record turnout of 825 riders took to Sumter’s tight and sandy trails, and after 65 miles of racing, Baylor held off a last minute challenge by FMF/KTM’s Kailub Russell to take the overall victory by 13 seconds. Baylor’s win was significant in that the 2012 series champion is returning to action this year after spending all of last year recovering from injury.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Baylor. “This is where I’ve wanted to be since 2012, to be on top of the box. The day started out pretty rough, but I just kept pushing and it paid off.”

Steward Baylor captured the overall at the opening round of the Kenda AMA National Enduro Championship Series.
Baylor got off to a rough start in test one, losing valuable time when he crashed midway into the test. However, the Mototech KTM rider quickly regained his footing with a solid win in test two, finishing 10 seconds ahead of 2014 champ Andrew DeLong. In all, Baylor won only two of the six tests on the day, however, consistency paid off in the long run for the South Carolina rider, and he collected to first victory of the 2015 season.

Russell finished up the event with an impressive ride for second place, although he had his ups and downs. On the “up” side, Russell was fastest in the first and last tests of the day. However, a crash in test two left the North Carolina rider 10th fastest for the test. Russell was sixth fastest in test three, but then he started to pick up the pace and was second to Motosport Yamaha’s Brad Bakken in tests four and five. A win in the final test allowed Russell to move ahead of Motosport Yamaha’s Brad Bakken for second.

“It was good, bad and ugly,” said Russell. “I didn’t really get going until the end of the third test, and then I felt like I had a good rhythm.”

Bakken rounded out the podium, finishing just five seconds behind Russell. Bakken also got off to a slow start but came on strong in the middle part of the race before a bad final test stopped his momentum.

Fourth went to four-time champ Russell Bobbitt, who is back on KTM after spending the last few years on Husaberg and Husqvarna. The FMF/KTM rider lost considerable time in test four when he took a tumble and bent his controls, but came back with some good rides in the final two tests.

Beta USA’s Cory Buttrick turned in his best performance in a couple of years with a solid fifth place finish, while Chris Bach made a rare national enduro appearance to claim sixth, edging out Rockstar Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Josh Strang by just two seconds.

Defending series champ Andrew DeLong ran in second place for most of the day, but a pair of devastating finishes in the final two tests dropped the Rockstar Husqvarna Factory Racing-backed rider all the way down into eighth for the day.

Meanwhile, Am Pro Yamaha’s Grant Baylor and AirGroup Racing’s Ryder Lafferty rounded out the top 10.

Australian off-road star Daniel Milner was expected to do well in Sumter, however, the Am Pro Yamaha rider ran out of fuel in test one when a mechanic forgot to fuel his bike, and he was not able to start the second test.

Zach Hayes won the Rekluse Expert-AA division, which is considered a stepping-stone for young riders hoping to move into the Pro ranks. The South Carolina rider was seventh fastest in the fifth test, and he beat out fellow KTM rider Drew Higgins by three minutes and 49 second for the AA-Expert class-win. He also finished 12th in the final overall standings.

“I was really tight in the first test, and in test two I went over the bars, but then I start getting it together and rode strong for the rest of the race,” said Hayes.

Higgins had to overcome arm pump to finish second, while Motosport Yamaha’s Ryan Belue was 23 seconds back in third.
