PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- This weekend, the first
American Motorcyclist Association Area Qualifiers of the 2015 season
take place, and the motocross journey of a lifetime will begin for many
AMA members.
The AMA Area
Qualifiers are the first step to earning a spot at the gate at the 2015
Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship. The
top riders from each area will advance to compete at 12 AMA Regional
Championships. From there, they can advance to the July 26 to Aug. 1
national event in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.
The
two-day events this weekend are in Buckeye, Ariz.; Citra, Fla.; and
Marysville, Calif. The following weekend will include motocross races in
Floresville, Texas; Elizabeth City, N.C.; and St. George, Utah. For the
full schedule of the AMA Area Qualifiers and AMA Regional
Championships, see www.mxsports.com.
"The
first step toward amateur racing greatness at the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC
AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship begins with this weekend's
AMA Area Qualifiers," said AMA Motocross Manager Kip Bigelow. "The AMA
Area Qualifiers feature top local talent, racing for the right to ascend
to an AMA Regional Motocross Championship. We've worked hand in hand
with our promoting partner MX Sports to find the best facilities in the
country to host these racers. We have no doubt that this will be one of
the best amateur motocross seasons ever."
The
AMA's promoting partner for the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur
National Motocross Championship is MX Sports. MX Sports has been
successfully promoting the national series since 1982.
"We
are excited to embark on this schedule that, as always, features the
best facilities and organizers in America," said MX Sports Director Tim
Cotter. "However, the 2015 season will prove to be a landmark year for
the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship as
we welcome an all-new region in the Mid-East, many new venues and enjoy
some of the lowest gas prices we've seen in quite some time."
Riders
from all across the country compete in the AMA Amateur National
Motocross Championship qualifier program. Classes are available for
competitors from 4 years old to 50-plus on a range of motorcycles,
including 50cc minibikes to state-of-the-art, highly modified 450cc
motocross machines.
The AMA Amateur
National Motocross Championship qualifying system and the finale in
Hurricane Mills, Tenn., represent the premier amateur motocross program
in America. Nearly every professional racer competing in the Lucas Oil
AMA Pro Motocross Championship made it to the pro ranks through the AMA
Amateur National Motocross Championship.
