Quintanilla Defends 2016 Title; Renet Out To Impress
March 30, 2017 – The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Rally Team go to the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, the first round of the 2017 FIM Cross Country Rally World Championship well prepared to defend the brand’s 2016 world title. Pablo Quintanilla of Chile rides with the number one plate as he launches his bid to defend his title. Teammate Pela Renet is also out to deliver another impressive ride as he continues to consolidate his rally career.
Quintanilla secured the 2016 title in the series at the OiLibya Rally in Morocco last October, finishing with 96 points, and a seven-point lead over British rider Sam Sunderland. It was Quintanilla’s first world title and the first for his native Chile. Renet, who contested his second Dakar Rally in January with the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Team, reached the finish line for the first time in an excellent overall seventh. The French rider and has now joined the elite group of professional rally-raid riders capable of delivering podium finishes in these tests of endurance, skill, and speed. Renet came to the team as a world enduro champion and proved in his 2017 Dakar Rally ride that he has successfully made the transition to rally-raid competition.
Both riders go into the opening round with enthusiasm and confidence.
Pablo Quintanilla:“After Dakar I needed to be strong and to prepare to come back even stronger than before. I have been training pretty hard in Chile to prepare for the season, which this year is very special for me because I am the world champion. I want to continue like this and I am ready and full of motivation to go racing.”
Pela Renet:“Straight after Dakar, I took some time off but then I started training again at home and by riding together with some enduro riders. We have also had some weeks training in Spain and Morocco, and we did testing with the new bike, so I feel good going into the season.”
The season’s opener begins with the traditional Super Special on Saturday, April 1st at the Yas Marina, a dash that decides the starting order for the opening stage on Sunday. Riders tackle five stages in the Liwa Desert of between 350 and 550 km, and the competition concludes on Thursday, April 6.
There is very little respite for the team who then immediately prepare for the second round of the world championship nearby Qatar, which is only one week separating the two rallies.
The 2017 FIM Cross Country Rally World Championship is made up of the two Gulf States rallies, two in South America in August – the Atacama Rally in Chile and the Desafio Ruta in Argentina, again one week apart, and the final round, the traditional OiLibya Rally in Morocco on October.

KR4 Team Visits Local Georgia School to Present Anti-Bullying Program
SPARTA, GA, March 26, 2017- On Sunday, the
forecast for rain held off for the round three of the Amsoil Grand
National Cross Country (GNCC) series. This made for humid and dusty
conditions on the track.
Tayla Jones
captured her third consecutive WXC win! Tayla had a small crash on the
last lap, but not enough to cause her problems, as shown by her 4 minute
gap behind Mullins who was the overall leader. Tayla said on the podium
that she's been "trying to take things one race at a time" and so far
it seems to be a winning strategy for her.

Baylor XC1 took off mid-pack and worked his way up into the 5th place
position but just could not hold strong in that position toward the last
laps and dropped back to land in 8th place. Scott Grills XC1 had
mechanical problems and was unable to finish. Jesper Borjesson XC2 broke
his hand guard and struggled throughout the race with problems related
and finished in 11th place. Hunter Neuwirth XC3 had a season best
finish for 4th in that highly competitive class.
Conner
Keegan 4-Stroke A Lites had the best race so far this season and
captured 2nd place followed by Colin Keegan in 5th place. Hunter
Williams 4-Stroke A Lites finished in 8th place followed by Colton
Reschke who flew in from Minnesota to experience the KR4 Arrive and Ride
program for this race and finished in 16th place.

Round 2 of the Onsia Sound Art Women's Motocross Championship (WMX) took place this weekend as part of the Freestone Spring Championship under blue skies and on a great track - and included the top WMX racers in the series. It was Team Green Kawasaki'sHannah Hodgeswho took the overall win for the second race in a row, posting 1-2 moto finishes and taking bothMyLucasOil.comholeshot awards.
In Moto One, it was Hodges with the holeshot just inches in front of the WMX current champion,Kylie Fasnacht, followed byJamie AstudilloandEve Brodeur. Hodges led the race from start to finish with Fasnacht unfortunately making close friends with a sand berm allowing Astudillo to make the pass and take over 2nd place.Brandy Richardshad a mid-pack start and eventually put her Yamaha into the 3rd podium position.Shelby Rolentook fourth followed by Brodeur. Fasnacht remounted and was able to finish 10th overall.
The start of Moto Two was a replay of Moto One with Hodges grabbing her secondMyLucasOil.comholeshot. You could almost throw a blanket over Hodges and Fasnacht as they crossed the holeshot line. Astudillo was once again in hot pursuit in third - but in turn two, the combination of a slick surface and too much throttle quickly turned Astudillo into a speed bump for the other riders. Richards moved into the 3rd spot followed by Brodeur and Rolen. Halfway through the race, and with additional traffic, Fasnacht pulled the trigger on Hodges and took over the lead to the finish line. Richards stayed consistent holding down the 3rd spot with Rolen moving into 4th. Brittany Gagne and Amanda Brown both recovered from slow starts to move into the 5th and 6th positions.
Hodges' 1/2 moto finishes gave her the win on the day followed by Richards (3/3) in 2nd, Rolen (4/4) for 3rd and Fasnacht in 4th with 10/1 moto finishes.

Hannah Hodges #172 - 1st Overall
In the first moto, I got off to a good start and started building a solid lead. When I got to the pit board I had a huge lead so I started just riding smart and tried to conserve my shoulder for the next moto, after hurting it earlier in the week. In the second moto I got a good start again and was beginning to pull a little and then got tangled with a lapper and just tried to ride smart at that point since I knew I had the overall.
Brandy Richards #19 - 2nd Overall
My races didn't go too badly. In the first moto I started fifth and got into second by the third lap but ended up going down pretty hard but got up as quick as possible. I fell back to fifth and ended up salvaging a third. In the second moto I started in fourth and got into third pretty quick and just set a good pace and stayed there. I'm not the happiest with my results but I have a lot to take from these races and all I can do now is go home and work harder so I hopefully put up a little bit more of a fight next time!
Shelby Rolen #445 - 3rd Overall
I got off to a top 5 start in moto one and ran with Jamie Astudillo for the first couple of laps. I was running 5th and with falls from Fasnacht and Richards found myself running in 3rd. I started losing back brakes on lap 4 which led to me riding tight and getting arm pump. I faded really bad with the arm pump and ended up giving 3rd back to Richards with about a lap and half to go. After the moto, I was far from happy with how I rode so I regrouped and came to the line for moto 2 prepared to ride the way I know I can. This time I got a solid start and found myself in 4th at the end of lap one. I put my head down and just simply rode my own race and tried to keep my mistakes to a minimum because I knew my 4-4 was going to be good enough for a podium spot. I was much more satisfied with my riding in moto 2 despite the same finishing position, I felt like I rode much better. All in all my starts were much better than Daytona and honestly I have always struggled with the track here at Freestone so I will take a 3rd overall as a personal victory and move on the next one. My 4 motos scores are the best I have ever started a season out with so I am really looking forward to what 2017 has in store for me!
Kylie Fasnacht #1 - 4th Overall
In the first moto I had a second place start behind Hodges. Followed her for two laps or so and was getting closer on third lap. I sent it off a single going into the sand sweeper and my bike shot sideways instead of straight. I did my best to save it but I failed at doing that and took a face plant to the berm. I got my breath back and took back off, then fell again on the 4th lap in a turn - just a minor tip over - got back up again and was almost being lapped by Hodges at that time. My handlebars were bent to crap and my arm was killing me from my bike plowing me in my first crash, but I knew if I got lapped by her that would only make it harder for me at the end of the day (results wise) as with that extra lap I was able to make more passes to move more ahead, so I was able to get a decent gap between Hodges and myself even riding the way I was and I was able to salvage a tenth place that race.
I was feeling sore coming into second moto but knew that all I had to do was ride the race and be smart to take the win home. I jumped off the gate solid, yet again coming out right behind Hodges, then tracked her for a few laps, got my lines dialed and pulled the trigger, I believe, on lap four or five where we were catching lappers. Then I just focused and worked on getting a gap between the two of us to take home the second moto win. A 10-1 for a 4th overall. We're hungry, healthy, and ready for Pala.
Jamie Astudillo # 469 - 7th Overall
Freestone had its ups and downs, started off the first moto in third and quickly dropped down into 4th. By the third lap I made my way into second, capitalized on the tip overs the other girls made and just rode smart and tried to improve every lap and got my first second of the season. The second moto didn't go as planned, I got off the start in 4th and wanted to make quick passes, got on the gas a little too hard coming out of the second corner and slid out. Unfortunately I got hit by another girl and banged up my arm pretty bad. I tried to ride as hard as I could, but with the rough the track, my arm couldn't take all the hits and also my bars were pretty messed up. So I just pushed through it as hard as I could and made a few passes and got back to tenth. Tough second round for me but happy with how I'm riding so hoping for 2 more podium finishes at round 3!

Kailub Russell Races His Way To The Maxxis Cannonball GNCC Overall Win
Toth Makes It Three-in-a-Row in the XC2 250 Pro Division
SPARTA, Ga. (March 26, 2017) - FMF/KTM Factory
Racing's Kailub Russell found himself back on top today, March 26, at
the second Annual Maxxis Cannonball GNCC in Sparta, Georgia. The
forecasted rain held off for the Round 3 of the AMSOIL Grand National
Cross Country (GNCC)
series presented by Maxxis, an AMA National Championship, creating a
rough and tiresome racetrack by the time the world's fastest off-road
racers lined up.
After taking the win just two weeks ago, Russell kept the momentum
rolling where he claimed the $250 All Balls Racing Holeshot Award once
the race was underway. Coastal Racing/Husqvarna's Ryan Sipes didn't let
his injury from last race affect him where he ran right behind Russell
off the start.
Rockstar
Energy/Factory Husqvarna Racing's Thad Duvall was able to make the pass
on Sipes before the first eight miles of the six-lap race was complete.
Russell, Duvall and Sipes held a huge gap on the rest of the pack,
including Beta USA's Jordan Ashburn who was in fourth. The top three may
have had a large gap on the rest of the field, but Russell, Duvall and
Sipes were wheel-to-wheel as they emerged out of the woods at the
nine-mile marker.
SRT/KTM's Steward Baylor, who held second place in points
championship, was nowhere to be seen on the first lap. After struggling
to get his bike fired up on the start, his competitors had a thirty
second lead over him.
Sipes
made quick work in the main field section to pass Duvall and take back
second overall. Duvall continued to hang with Sipes, and made the pass
again just before they checked through timing and scoring for the first
time.
As the second lap wore on, Ashburn continued pushing himself in an
attempt to catch the podium contenders, where he shaved off ten seconds.
Meanwhile, Baylor worked his way into the top five.
Like the previous round, different pit strategies came into play for
Russell and Duvall. As the second lap was coming to a close, Russell
headed in for a splash of gas allowing Duvall to inch closer.
Halfway
through the race Sipes would find himself dealing with wrist pain from
his accident in Florida. Sipes decided to end his race early in hopes of
letting his hand have a couple more weeks to heal before the Steele
Creek GNCC. Baylor used Sipes' misfortune to his benefit where he took
over the third-place position on the third lap. Ashburn continued to
keep Baylor honest throughout the remainder of the lap.
With only one lap remaining, Duvall would take the lead for a few
miles until making a costly mistake. "I threw away the win. I had a
comfortable lead on Russell coming into the white flag. I crashed so
hard I'm not even sure what happened," said Duvall.
Russell
took command of the lead again, but Duvall recovered to still maintain
second. Without a front fender or number plate Duvall faced a whole new
obstacle the last lap. Russell continued to push through the demanding
course to take the win, with his competition, Duvall, recovering to
still finish second overall.
"I had bad stomach cramps in South Carolina, and I got them again
today," said Russell. "I don't know if it's what I'm taking in my drink
bottles during the race or what. I felt okay other than my stomach
cramping. I had a crash and Duvall got away, so I felt like I had just
blown it right there. I caught up to Duvall and saw he was picking
himself up, too. I suffered the entire last lap and I'm not really happy
with today. We need to go back to the drawing board and make some
changes."
Even though he didn't have sight of the leaders, Baylor continued to
ride his own race and challenge himself where he would cross the
checkered flag third after his impressive come-from-behind ride.
Ashburn
finished just off the podium in fourth, which would score him his best
finish of the year. JCR Honda's Trevor Bollinger rebounded from his last
race, with fifth overall. After suffering from some lingering injuries,
Rockstar Energy/Factory Husqvarna Racing's Josh Strang rode a
consistent race for seventh overall.
In the XC2 250 Pro Lites division, Appalachian Offroad Motorcycles'
Sam Evans grabbed the $100 Hot Cams XC2 Holeshot Award. N-Fab/AmPro's
Josh Toth worked his way through the pack to earn his third straight win
of the season. The Cannonball GNCC treated both RPM/KTM's Mike
Witkowski and New Jersey's Jesse Groemm well where they finished second
and third respectively.
Coastal
Racing's Jack Edmondson had an exceptional race where he stood in the
middle of the box once again in the FMF XC3 125 Pro-Am class.
Edmondson's charge throughout the race earned him tenth overall ahead of
many of the XC1 and XC2 competitors. Jason Thomas and N-Fab/AmPro
Yamaha's Paul Whibley rounded out the class podium.
The 10 a.m.
race saw a familiar group of ladies on the overall podium. Rocky
Mountain ATV*MC/KR4/Husqvarna Team's Tayla Jones saw her way to her
third win of the season. Defending champion and Fly Racing/Maxxis/Seat
Concepts/KTM-backed Becca Sheets earned second, and Trail Jester's
MacKenzie Tricker was third overall.
In the 8 a.m.
youth race, Zack Davidson continued his dominance and took the
checkered flag one-minute ahead of Peyton Whipkey who finished second.
Super Mini Jr. class winner, Michael Beeler Jr. found his way back onto
the overall podium in third.
The 2017 AMSOIL GNCC Series resumes in two weeks, April 8 and 9,
with the FMF Steele Creek GNCC in Morganton, North Carolina. A
highlight show featuring the Cannonball event will air on the NBC Sports
Network on Sunday, May 28 at 5:30 p.m.
