Bel-Ray Weekend Wrap-Up

Courtesy of Bel-Ray

Bel-Ray racers were in action on opposite sides of the world  this past weekend as the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross Series continued in Atlanta, Georgia and the 2012 World Superbike Championship series began on Phillip Island in Melbourne, Australia.

Team Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki’s Blake Wharton continued to be a front runner in the  Lites class. Wharton qualified 4th fastest in timed qualifying, 4th in his heat race and backed it up with a 4th place in the main event. Wharton’s consistency moves him into 3rd place in the series points standings after 2 rounds. Teammate Hunter Hewitt also qualified directly to the main event with a 4th place finish in his heat race. Hewitt, who finished 12th place last weekend, improved on his results this week. An 8th place finish in the main event moved him up to 8th place in the points standings.

Both Dodge/Hart & Huntington/Sycuan Casino/Bel-Ray Racing’s riders had rough nights in Atlanta. Josh Hansen’s night started off well with a 4th place in his heat race. After a great start, Hansen was up in the top 5, challenging the front of the field. A detrimental mistake in one of the track's rhythm sections caused his bike to stall. By the time he was able to get it started, Hansen found himself a full lap down. Hansen's perseverance eventually got him into 15th place by the end of the race and in 11th in the series' points standings. Hansen’s teammate, Kyle Partridge, found luck in the Last Chance Qualifier, put in consistent laps for an eventual 17th place finish in the main event and 16th in the series' standings.

The Supercross series continues this weekend in St. Louis, Missouri at the Edward Jones Dome.

The 2012 World Superbike Series got under way in Melbourne, Australia. The Althea Ducati team of Carlos Checa and Davide Giugliano are Bel-Ray’s entrants into the competition this season. The series features two races for each event, both offering valuable points toward the World Championship. The defending series champion, Carlos Checa, found himself in the lead of race one after the 2nd lap, but lost traction from the rear wheel during the 6th lap and spectacularly crashed his Ducati. Although he was uninjured, he could not rejoin the race. Checa bounced back in the second race, gaining the lead on the 4th lap and holding on for the race victory.  Checa’s teammate, Davide Giugliano, stepped up into the World Superbike class for the 2012 season and finished 9th and 13th, respectively, for each race. Both racers are in the top 15 in the series' points standings, with Checa in 4th and Giugliano in 12th. The series continues April 1st in Italy.

Bel-Ray Weekend Preview

Courtesy of Bel-Ray
The 2012 Monster Energy Supercross Series continues the trip east this week for Round 8 of 17. The Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia will host the best supercross racers in the world on Saturday night.
Following his crash during the main event last weekend in Dallas, TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing’s Chad Reed has been forced to retire from the rest of the series. Reed will take the time off to heal from his injuries, and hopes to make a return in time for the outdoor motocross series this May.
Dodge/Hart & Huntington/Sycuan Casino/Bel-Ray Racing’s Josh Hansen has been one of the most consistent racers in the series. Hansen raced to an excellent 5th place finish last Saturday night, and looks to improve on that result when the checkered flag falls on Saturday night. Teammate, Kyle Partridge, is coming off his season’s best 13th place finish, and is looking to crack the top 10 this weekend in Georgia.
Team Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki’s racers Blake Wharton and Hunter Hewitt both made their series’ debut last Saturday night. Wharton’s 4th and Hewitt’s 12th place finishes were excellent ways to start the series. Wharton is considered a contender for a victory this season and is looking for his first win this weekend in Atlanta.
Joining Bel-Ray’s professional racing teams this weekend are several of Bel-Ray’s privateer racers. Ronnie Stewart #606 has been competing in the West Coast Lites Series all season long, and has moved up to the Supercross Class when the series headed east. Joining Stewart in the Supercross Class is Dustin Kendall #587. Frankie Lettieri  #446 will also join the Bel-Ray family as he competes in the lites class.

Bel-Ray Racing-Weekend Racing Wrap-Up – February 21, 2012

For Immediate Release

Bel-Ray Racing-Weekend Racing Wrap-Up – February 21, 2012

Round 7 of the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross Series took place on Saturday night at Cowboy’s Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing's Chad Reed came to Dallas ready to win. After setting the fastest time in afternoon qualifying it looked as though winning would be in his future however, that was not the case. While pressuring race leader Ryan Villopoto, Reed made an un-characteristic error and went down. During the crash Reed was seriously injured, and will be forced to withdraw from the 2012 Supercross series. Reed's injuries include a torn ACL, broken Tibia and Fibula, broken ribs and a broken T6 vertebrae. At the time of his crash Reed was in 2nd place in the series' points standings, just six points away from the top spot. Reed will sit out the remainder of the Supercross Series while he recovers.

Dodge/Hart & Huntington/Sycuan Casino/Bel-Ray Racing’s Josh Hansen continued his streak of top results, finishing in 5th place during the main event. Teammate Kyle Partridge also saw a good result in Dallas. Despite a back of the field start, Partridge persevered, working his way through the field to an eventual 13th place position. Both riders are currently in the top 20 in the series' points standings with Hansen in 10th and Partridge in 16th.

The Supercross Lites East Coast Series began on Saturday night. Team Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki’s racers Blake Wharton and Hunter Hewitt both made their series' debut. Both Wharton and Hewitt qualified for the main event out of their respective heat races, with Wharton holding the lead for part of his heat. In the main event, Wharton nearly grabbed the holeshot and the lead at the start. While challenging the race leader early on in the first lap the two collided, and Wharton went down. Wharton quickly remounted, and began working his way through the pack from his 13th place position. By the end of the fifteen lap main event Wharton was in 4th place, just off the podium. Teammate Hewitt rode consistent laps and finished in 12th place for his efforts.

The series continues to travel east this week stopping in Atlanta Georgia for round 8 this Saturday night.

Team Ohlins/Langston Motorsports/KTM Kick-off East Coast Lites Season With Solid Results

Courtesy of Ohlins/Langston Motorsports/KTM

Arlington, TX – (February 18, 2012) - With both participating riders making it to the night show, it was a commendable first race for Team Ohlins/Langston Motorsports/KTM for the opening round of the AMA Supercross East Coast Lites Championship Series held at Cowboy Stadium Saturday.
Les Smith had a 13th place overall qualifying time and made it to the main event with a 9th place finish in his heat race. Smith avoided the carnage in the first turn of the main event getting into 11th place. He rode well for several laps but encountered some bad luck when another rider collided with him damaging his bike. Refusing to give up, Les nursed the ill-running bike to a 16th place finish giving the team a solid foundation to build upon.
“I felt really good in the main. I had an outside gate pick so I checked up in the first turn when I saw everyone pushing out,” Smith said. “That allowed me not to get tangled up. I was riding pretty well but did make contact with another rider which somehow damaged my ignition. The bike was bogging out pretty bad but there was no way I was going to pull off.”
A.J. Catanzaro clinched a spot in the night show with an 11th place overall qualifying time. In both his heat race and the LCQ he got tangled up with other riders off the start pushing him to the back. He rode hard trying to get up to qualifying position but there was too much ground to make up. “I am obviously disappointed not making the main but I felt like I was riding very well. I will now put in the work to be ready for Atlanta,” commented Catanzaro.
Team manager Grant Langston is overall very pleased with where they are as a team. “Obviously the results could be better but everyone gelled together as a team this weekend and we really got some things sorted out”, said Langston. “I am especially proud of Les’s performance. He rode smart and showed a lot of grit and determination when he encountered mechanical issues. We are all excited for the next event in Atlanta.”

Bel-Ray Racing-Weekend Racing Wrap-Up – February 13, 2012

Round 6 of the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross Series took place on Saturday night in San Diego, California.

TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing's Chad Reed had always been the man to beat in San Diego, winning the main event a record 6 times in his career. After a confident win in his heat race, Reed was poised to add to that record. Reed took off well in the main event and settled into a 2nd place position. Keeping the leader in sight Reed was ready to make a pass if the opportunity presented itself. Just two laps from the end Reed made his move and briefly led, but eventual race winner, Ryan Villopoto, was able to get by for the victory. Reed ended the night on the podium for the 5th time this season. His well earned 2nd place finish keeps him in 2nd place in the series' points standings, now 6 points away from the top spot.

Dodge/Hart & Huntington/Sycuan Casino/Bel-Ray Racing’s Josh Hansen came to San Diego hoping to rebound from last week’s DNF. When the gate dropped, Hansen was sitting outside the top 10 in 13th place. He was able to move up to 10th on lap 4, and charged through the pack for all 20 laps, eventually scoring his season best finish in 5th place. Hansen's finish vaulted him back into the top 10 in the series' points standings. Teammate Kyle Partridge qualified directly for the main event with a well earned 4th place in his heat race. Partridge struggled to find his groove during the main event and could only manage a 19th place finish.

Team Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki’s racers Martin Davalos and Jason Anderson both qualified directly out of their heat races and were poised to have an excellent night of racing. Unfortunately poor starts and mistakes caused both riders to finish outside the top 10, with Davalos in 15th and Anderson in 17th. Both riders go into the break inside the top 20 with Anderson in 10th and Davalos in 16th. Teammates Blake Wharton and Hunter Hewitt will replace Davalos and Anderson for the East Coast rounds beginning this weekend, until the series returns to the West Coast in Seattle, WA on April 21st.

Bel-Ray Racing-Weekend Racing Preview – February 10, 2012

San Diego, California will be the site of the final Golden State appearance of the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross Series. On Saturday night, February 11th, the stars of Supercross will compete for the top step of the podium.

Coming into San Diego after another podium finish is TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing's Chad Reed. Second in the points standings, just three points away from the leader, Reed has confidence on his side this weekend. His six previous main event wins in San Diego are the most by any competitor. Look for #22 to be leading the pack when the gate drops this weekend.

The Dodge/Hart & Huntington/Sycuan Casino/Bel-Ray Racing team is hoping to rebound from last weekend's disappointing finishes in Anaheim. Josh Hansen’s DNF on Saturday night ended his string of Top 10 finishes, but Hansen intends to re-start his streak again this week.  Despite a strong showing in his heat race, Kyle Partridge struggled in the main event and finished 16th. Both riders are currently in the top 20 in the series' points standings coming into this weekend's event.

Team Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki's Martin Davalos and Jason Anderson both come to San Diego with something to prove. With a more than two month break ahead, a positive finish this weekend will set the tone for their training and preparations to finish the series. Teammates Blake Wharton and Hunter Hewitt will replace Davalos and Anderson for the East Coast rounds until the series returns to West Coast in Seattle, WA on April 21st.

Bel-Ray Racing-Weekend Racing Wrap-Up – February 6, 2012

Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California again played host to the Monster Energy Supercross Series on Saturday night. Southern California fans had the opportunity to witness exceptional racing for the second time this season.

TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing's Chad Reed has been a favorite for each main event.  Reed had an excellent choice of starting gate position after he finished second in his heat race.   When the gate dropped he was in second place on the first lap. Reed slipped back into third place just before the half way point, a position he would hold until the end of the event. His third place finish moves him back into second place for the series, just three points out of the lead.

Dodge/Hart & Huntington/Sycuan Casino/Bel-Ray Racing's Josh Hansen and Kyle Partridge both qualified well in their heat races, with Hansen taking a fourth place finish and Partridge taking  sixth. Hansen experienced technical issues in the main event and was forced out of the race. Teammate, Partridge, started near the middle of the pack, and rode a consistent race to finish in sixteenth place. Both riders are in the Top 20 in points, with Hansen in twelfth and Partridge in eighteenth place.

This season has had its share of ups and downs for Team Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki. Both Martin Davalos and Jason Anderson qualified directly for the main event from their heat races, with Davalos scoring third place in heat race #1 and Anderson scoring ninth place in heat race #2. The main event began with both riders just outside the Top 10 on the first lap. Anderson went down in a high speed corner, and Davalos went down just behind him. Davalos was quick to recover and finished in tenth place. Slower to make a recovery, Anderson finished in twentieth place.   Anderson sits tenth in the series' points standings, while Davalos is currently sixteenth place.

The series continues at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California this Saturday night.

Red Bull Joins Forces with MX Nationals

Courtesy of MX Sports
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (February 1, 2012) - MX Sports Pro Racing and Alli Sports have announced a multi-year agreement with Red Bull, the world's leading energy drink, to become the "Official Energy Drink of Pro Motocross" for the upcoming Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. The partnership will be highlighted by Red Bull title sponsorship at three of the 12 national events this summer -- Budds Creek (June 16), RedBud (July 7) and Unadilla (August 18).
"We couldn't be more proud to welcome Red Bull to the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship," said MX Sports Pro Racing President Davey Coombs. "Their presence within action sports and motorsports speaks for itself and with their commitment, Pro Motocross is sure to reach new heights this season and beyond."
In addition to serving as the primary sponsor for the KTM factory team and Troy Lee Designs, Red Bull also supports some of the sport's most recognizable names, including James Stewart, Ryan Dungey, international superstars Ken Roczen and Marvin Musquin as well as Women's Motocross athletes Ashley Fiolek and Tarah Geiger.
"Red Bull has been such a big part of motocross for so long that it's a natural fit for them to partner with Pro Motocross," said James Stewart, who will make his full-time return to the series since winning all 24 motos en-route to the 2008 championship. "The brand has been a great partner to me personally and I'm really excited that the whole sport will benefit from their involvement."
Red Bull's venture into series support presents expanded content and distribution opportunities for Pro Motocross, while also generating a noticeable presence at the races, thanks to its iconic Energy Station that will be present at select rounds of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. Additionally, the brand's recognizable "World of Red Bull" image will be felt at each of the season's 12 events.

Bel-Ray Weekend Racing Wrap-Up

Round 4 of the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross series took place on Saturday night, January 28th in Oakland, California. The 2012 racing season has been full of exciting action and Saturday’s event didn’t disappoint the crowd.
TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing’s and winner of Round 3, Chad Reed, looked like he was going to continue his winning ways when he grabbed the holeshot in the main event. Reed led for the first half of the race until eventual race winner, James Stewart, got by. Reed kept Stewart in sight and continued to ride a smart race holding onto second place at the end of the race. Reed’s second place finish puts him into a tie for the points lead as the series heads south to Anaheim, California for Round 5.
Dodge/Hart & Huntington/Sycuan Casino/Bel-Ray Racing’s Josh Hansen scored another top 10 finish for the 4th round in a row. Fellow teammate Kyle Partridge qualified directly into the main event with a strong 6th place finish. Early in the main event, Partridge went down in a difficult section of the track and could not continue. He was credited with 20th place for the main event. Despite his 20th place finish in the main event, Partridge is 19th in the point’s standings.
Team Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki team riders Martin Davalos and Jason Anderson provided a great deal of excitement on Saturday night. Davalos scored a confident 3rd place in his heat race while Anderson won the last chance qualifier for the second week in a row. Davalos took the holeshot in the main event and led early, while Anderson was coming through the field after a mid-pack start. Anderson was on a charge that brought him as high as 3rd before he was taken down in a corner by another rider. He was slow to remount and placed 12th by the end of the race. Davalos, allowed few riders to pass, giving up his lead, placing him 9th at the checkered flag. Both riders are in the top 15 in the series standings with Anderson in 7th and Davalos in 15th.
The series continues next Saturday night in Anaheim California for Round 5.
