Bel-Ray Racing-Weekend Racing Wrap-Up – February 13, 2012

Round 6 of the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross Series took place on Saturday night in San Diego, California.

TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing's Chad Reed had always been the man to beat in San Diego, winning the main event a record 6 times in his career. After a confident win in his heat race, Reed was poised to add to that record. Reed took off well in the main event and settled into a 2nd place position. Keeping the leader in sight Reed was ready to make a pass if the opportunity presented itself. Just two laps from the end Reed made his move and briefly led, but eventual race winner, Ryan Villopoto, was able to get by for the victory. Reed ended the night on the podium for the 5th time this season. His well earned 2nd place finish keeps him in 2nd place in the series' points standings, now 6 points away from the top spot.

Dodge/Hart & Huntington/Sycuan Casino/Bel-Ray Racing’s Josh Hansen came to San Diego hoping to rebound from last week’s DNF. When the gate dropped, Hansen was sitting outside the top 10 in 13th place. He was able to move up to 10th on lap 4, and charged through the pack for all 20 laps, eventually scoring his season best finish in 5th place. Hansen's finish vaulted him back into the top 10 in the series' points standings. Teammate Kyle Partridge qualified directly for the main event with a well earned 4th place in his heat race. Partridge struggled to find his groove during the main event and could only manage a 19th place finish.

Team Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki’s racers Martin Davalos and Jason Anderson both qualified directly out of their heat races and were poised to have an excellent night of racing. Unfortunately poor starts and mistakes caused both riders to finish outside the top 10, with Davalos in 15th and Anderson in 17th. Both riders go into the break inside the top 20 with Anderson in 10th and Davalos in 16th. Teammates Blake Wharton and Hunter Hewitt will replace Davalos and Anderson for the East Coast rounds beginning this weekend, until the series returns to the West Coast in Seattle, WA on April 21st.
