South of the Border MX Riders Win Seven Championships at the 41st annual Thor Winter Olympics

Alachua, Florida – November 24th, 2012

South of the Border MX Training Complex riders won an incredible seven championships at the 2012 Thor Winter National Olympics.  SOBMX riders also scored twenty-three top five finishes and thirty-eight top tens!
 Cooper Webb led the way with six national titles in the A and A Pro Sport classes sweeping all of the 250 classes.  Webb added wins in the both 450A classes and had a second and third in the 450 A Pro Sport, all while riding a 250F.   Webb won the lion’s share of the special awards including the Pro Circuit Platinum Pipe award and the Dunlop Silver Tire award.
Matt Burkeen won his first national title in four years winning the Open 4-stroke class.  Burkeen also won the 4- stroke Olympiad and had podium finishes in 250B and 450B.  Matt added the Thor Outstanding Achievement award and the third place cup in the 250B Olympiad to his trophy case!
Brandon Hartranft was a factor in all of the Supermini classes finishing with a third, fourth and a sixth!  Christina Older had a couple of top five finishes scoring a third and a fifth in the Woman 12+ class.  Jamie Astudillo had two fourth place finishes in the Girls 9-11 while big brother Jason was seventh in 450A Pro Sport and eighth in Open 4-stroke.
 Kyler West had four top tens with a seventh, an eighth, a ninth and a tenth in the Schoolboy classes and only a second moto crash in Youth mod kept him off the podium.  Cody Gragg, Cody McCulloch, Max Tannenbaum, Maksis Vilcins and Andres Benenaula also scored top tens.  Gragg had a second place moto finish en route to a seventh and a tenth in 250 A, Vilcins carded a tenth in 250C mod and Tannenbaum rode to two first moto wins and was eighth in SX and MX in 250B stock.  McCulloch was second in two motos with a seventh overall in Open B stock and Benenaula  finished seventh and tenth in Open 4-stroke. Our youngest rider, Austin Schafer, rode his first Mini Olympics in the 50cc 4-6 class.  Chase Desselle, Jared Jennings and Jake McDonald each had some good motos but bad luck and crashes derailed their weeks.
South of the Border MX Training Complex is a full service motocross/supercross training facility located in Hamer, SC offering full and part time training opportunities for both amateurs and professionals.
