ROCKSTAR ENERGY HUSQVARNA FACTORY RACING'S COLTON HAAKER AND MIKE BROWN TAKE THE 2ND AND 3RD POSITIONS ATOP THE PODIUM

Courtesy of Husqvarna Motorcycles

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing's Colton Haaker and Mike Brown continue to finish towards the top at Round 3 of the AMA EnduroCross in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Going into the night, Haaker finished his heat in 1st place as did Mike Brown. Colton Haaker felt great after coming into this round after winning the first 2. His winning mentality took him off of the start line where he claimed the holeshot. Haaker would lead the first 2 laps and then continue his battle back and forth for the top spot the rest of the race. He would later finish in 2nd place.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing's Mike Brown battled throughout the entire race until lap number 13 when he was able to secure the final podium spot and finish in 3rd place.

The AMA EnduroCross Championship continues with round three in Phoenix, Arizona on September 24th.

Colton Haaker: “This weekend started out great with taking my heat win. The main event proved to be a battle. Finished with a solid 2nd place but still looking for that top spot. The team did great and we are looking forward to Round 4 in Phoenix.”

MAX NAGL PLACES THIRD IN 2016 MXGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Courtesy of Husqvarna Motorcycles

Rounding out his participation in the 2016 Motocross World Championship with fourth overall at the GP of USA, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Nagl collected the points needed to secure third place in this year’s MXGP championship.

With the Motocross World Championship drawing to a close at the iconic Glen Helen Raceway, the German star delivered two hugely determined rides to wrap up his 2016 MXGP campaign on a high note. Finishing as runner-up in his qualifying moto, he kept his momentum going into Sunday’s final MXGP motos.

Getting a great start in the opening race he found himself leading the moto for a couple of corners, before eventually finishing a strong third. With the FC 450 powering the German to the holeshot in moto two, Nagl went on to cross the line fourth for fourth overall at the GP of USA.

Following in Nagl’s footsteps, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s MX2 rider Max Anstie also claimed fourth overall in his class to round out the 2016 series with fourth in the MX2 World Championship standings.

Getting the holeshot in moto one, the Brit battled for the top spot for a number of laps before starting to feel the effects of his recent illness. Running out of energy Anstie was forced to settle for eighth. Determined to give it his all during the last moto of the season, Anstie got another great start to eventually cross the line fourth. Wrapping up the series with a total of 504 points, he was just eight points behind the top three in the MX2 championship.

After his strong fourth overall MX2 result in Charlotte last week, Thomas Covington entered the series’ finale aiming to earn a spot inside the top three. Getting a mediocre start in moto one, the American battled through the pack to finish fourth. Unfortunately, a fall in moto two resulted in a 14th place MX2 result.

Missing four GPs in the middle of the year due to injury, Covington wrapped up his debut season with Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing in 11th in the final MX2 championship standings.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Nagl and Max Anstie are now set to represent their respective countries at the 2016 Motocross of Nations that will take place in Maggiora, Italy, on September 24/25.

Max Nagl: “I’m happy with the way the season ended in Glen Helen. I wanted to end the year on a high and finish inside the top three in the MXGP championship and I’m happy to say both goals were accomplished. In the first moto I got off to a great start leading the race for the first corners before settling for third. My start in moto two was even better and I managed to get my ninth holeshot for the season. I kept the lead until the second lap and then slowly dropped to fourth and that’s where I finished. We were tied in points for third overall with Gajser but he beat me due to his better finish in moto two. We’ve worked really hard with the team this season and this third place in the championship is the best reward for all of us. It’s been a very long season with a lot of travelling. I’m now going to take some time off and soon I will start my preparations for next year. The plan is to keep working as hard as always and hopefully in 2017 we’ll have an even bigger chance for the MXGP title.”

Max Anstie“It’s been a good GP, considering I’ve been ill the last couple of days. It all started during the previous round in Charlotte. Actually, I thought I was all right, as I felt a lot better before the weekend. But ten minutes into each moto and the effects started coming in. Despite aching and feeling sick I did my best in both motos, pushing as hard as my body allowed me to do. I’m also happy with my holeshot in moto one, which helped me secure the holeshot award for this season. My speed was good during the first few laps, but then I felt tired and dropped back to eighth. I got another great start in moto two, even leading the race for a couple of corners. Despite feeling sick again I battled to fourth for fourth overall. Overall, I’m happy with the way this season ended and I’m looking forward to stepping up to the MXGP class with Husqvarna in 2017.”

Thomas Covington“I felt good all weekend and my speed was pretty good as well. In the first moto I started in about eighth position. I struggled to find a good race pace in the beginning. Towards the end I found my rhythm and was able to pass a few guys in the last ten minutes to finish the moto fourth. In the second race I got a pretty good start, but struggled to find a good feeling in the track. In the second lap I went off the track and lost a couple of spots. I came back and was trying to make it to the podium but I had another crash on top of the hill that ruined my moto. Overall, we had a good first season with the team and I’m looking forward to working hard during the off-season in order to come back stronger next year.”

THOMAS COVINGTON EARNS FOURTH OVERALL AT GP OF AMERICAS

Courtesy of Husqvarna Motorcycles

Putting in two committed race performances Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Covington wrapped up the penultimate round of the 2016 FIM Motocross World Championship at Charlotte Motor Speedway with fourth overall, equalling his season best overall result in the MX2 class.

Confident of strong results at the first of two GPs on American soil, Covington showed impressive speed and consistency during both MX2 motos. Despite the cancellation of the qualifying race due to bad weather, it took the young American no time at all to get familiar with what turned out to be a hard-packed and rutted North Carolina track.

Getting a good jump out of the gate in moto one, Covington found himself in fourth before the end of the first lap and held position until the end of the race. Involved in a great battle with Jeremy Seewer and Cooper Webb for the top three during the first half of moto two, the American rounded out the GP with another fourth place. Showing he has the speed for the top, Covington is now set to chase for the overall podium next week at Glen Helen Raceway.

Covington’s Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing MX2 teammate Max Anstie had to work very hard at the GP of Americas. Getting a great start in moto one the Brit found himself closely following early leader Austin Forkner, before a crash left him with a mountain to climb. 14th at the end of lap one, Anstie fought back and managed to cross the line sixth. Battling though stomach pains and sickness in moto two, he claimed 10th for eighth overall in the MX2 class.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s MXGP star Max Nagl rounded out his participation in round 17 of the series with two top ten moto finishes for ninth overall at the GP of Americas. Holding on to fifth for most of the opening moto, Nagl suffered a fall five laps before the end and had to settle for 10th. With his FC 450 machine powering him to a convincing holeshot the German went on to finish moto two in ninth position.

The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team will return to action at the 18th and final round of the FIM Motocross World Championship in Glen Helen on September 9/10.

Thomas Covington: “It was a really good GP and I’m happy with fourth overall. It feels nice to race in front of friends and family and the fans were awesome too. The track was really high speed without many things to slow you down, so passing wasn’t easy. I got a bad start in moto one but made some quick passes. I got fourth pretty quickly and rode the rest of the race by myself. I got a better start in moto two and was battling with Seewer for third, before settling for fourth again. Overall, the bike was working great and my riding was smooth throughout the day. I’m now looking forward to the final GP in Glen Helen. I know this track really well, so hopefully I can run up with the top three.“

Max Anstie: “I did my best once again but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. After the cancellation of the qualifying race, we knew everybody would be pushing hard from the get go in the final motos. I got a great start in the opening race, following Forkner in second, but a couple of turns later I lost the front and went over the bars. I got back up and rode really strong to get back to sixth. My start in moto two wasn’t that good and as I was battling through the pack I felt intense stomach pain. I guess I got physically drained from trying too hard in moto one. Our focus now is on the following weekend and I’m hoping to end the season on a high note in Glen Helen.”

Max Nagl: “It was a difficult weekend for us. Everything got cancelled on Friday due to the rain and the whole schedule got squeezed onto Saturday. In the opening moto I got a great jump out of the gate and was hanging on to fifth for a couple of laps. It was pretty hard to make passes on this track. Five minutes before the end of the race I had a crash and lost a few places to finish 10th. My start was even better in moto two and I ended up getting the holeshot. I did my best to stay close to the top but the guys in front had a really fast pace, so I ended up ninth for ninth overall. We’re flying to Glen Helen tomorrow and we’ll have some extra time to do some training before the GP. My goal is to battle for a top three finish there to preserve my third position in the championship.”

Suzuki Announces 2017 World MX2 Team

Courtesy of Team Suzuki Press Office

Pichon and Lawrence Brothers drafted into the Team for 2017.
Suzuki has strengthened its strategy for the future and through the establishment of the Team Suzuki World MX2 team as a stage for promoting and developing young talent with a fresh set of alliances for 2017 and beyond.

With current rider Jeremy Seewer second-placed in the FIM world championship standings already slated for a final MX2 term in 2017, and EMX250 European Champion race winner Bas Vaessen also confirmed for the Grand Prix class, Suzuki is thrilled to be able to incorporate Australian Hunter Lawrence into the GP structure as a third rider on the RM-Z250.

The Antipodean will bring his highly-rated younger brother, Jet, slated for European Championship duty, while Suzuki’s substantial profile in EMX250 – the feeder class to Grand Prix and the final step on the career ladder for MX2 aspirants – is boosted by the signature of Zach Pichon (the son of former double 250cc World Champion on the RM250, Mickael Pichon) to continue in the category.
Everts had already moved to secure Seewer and Vaessen for a potent 2017 MX2 wing, but the addition of 16 year old Lawrence, a winner in EMX250 in just his first season this year - and before he was hit by a right knee injury that prematurely ended his European campaign - only adds more potency.

“After Jeremy and Bas, we are very honoured to sign Hunter Lawrence,” said Team Suzuki General Manager Stefan Everts. “We had a great opportunity to work together and thinking about the future and what I have seen of Hunter so far, he will fit in perfectly to our programme. After one-or-two years I feel that he can be a really strong contender in the world championship. He was really strong in his first races in the European Championship and he adapted very fast to Euro tracks. So I’m very pleased to have this kid on-board and also his brother [Jet]. We have changed quite a lot with how we are working with the riders and it has already started to pay off in some respects and results; Bas is showing good things and Jeremy is improving a lot. For the Lawrence family I think it was important the trust and resources we could provide and they are really happy to come on-board. I hope this is the next step for us in building up the whole Team Suzuki structure.”

Lawrence is a former 125cc Junior World Championship ‘podiumee’ and national junior number one and was highly sought after in the Grand Prix paddock for his talent and application for a maiden
MX2 attempt in 2017; which will be the first of two years in ‘yellow’.

Brother Jet was 65cc Junior World Champ. “For Jet and it’s quite something to have stood out enough for Harry and Stefan; we’re talking 15 world titles between them so there is quite something to be learned there,” the confident youngster said. “My knee is coming along well and I’m cycling and exercising. I think I might be on the bike in mid-September and it will be great to start working with the team and get a good feeling with the RM-Z250 then. It will be a crazy-long season next year and I don't have any expectations; I know how important it is to try to keep healthy and make it all the way through.”
Zach Pichon has caught the eye this season and in 2015 with his initial forays in EMX125 competition thanks to a speed and style that could well be a family trait. The teenager, who turns 16 at the end of the summer, will contest the highly-competitive 10-round European series as well as dates in Holland and the ADAC MX Masters national championship in Germany.

“This is a quite a big deal for my family because my father was two-time world champion with Suzuki,” Pichon says. “I like the bike and I feel great on the Suzuki. It was an easy and quick decision to join the team. I am doing more riding and cycling and running this year and working with my Dad he knows how I feel…so we are improving.”

Stefan Everts has many memories of close and intense tussles with Zach’s father and now the story circles around to the next generation. “We meet again after some years!” the Belgian smiles. “And now in a completely different position. I saw Zach when he was a little kid and Mickael and I were racing each other and now I am taking care of his son. It is a really cool story and it is nice to join up like this again. I always had a lot of respect for Mickael; he is a special personality and we have a lot of stories! Zach is a completely different rider and character. I think all the experience around him – with Mickael and I and my father - he will have the help he needs to become a champion. Who knows? Maybe in a couple of years we will see another generation of Everts-Pichon battling on the track!”

The sizeable quota and mix of youth, promise and podium experience at the highest level means the culmination of Suzuki’s long European-based relationship with Brian Hsu. The 18 year old German is optimistic of joining Suzuki’s effort in the United States for 2017. “Brian wants to go to the U.S. so Suzuki is helping him to find a deal there,” Everts concludes. “It was his wish from the beginning and now he has turned 18 I think it is the right time for him to go. We had a difficult year and we wished it could have been better.”

Fasnacht Extends WMX Lead at Ironman

Courtesy of MX Sports

CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN - After taking a short break for the summer, the Women's Motocross Championship (WMX) resumed action with round six of the 10-round series. Defending champion and current points leader Kylie Fasnacht added another win to her resume after the Team Green Kawasaki rider swept both motos at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Cycle Trader's Marissa Markelon put up a hard fight for second (2-2), while Kaitlyn Morrow rounded out the overall podium with 4-3 moto finishes.

Obermeyer Suzuki's Mackenzie Tricker pushed Fasnacht wide in the first turn of Moto 1, as Markelon was able to slip underneath and grab the holeshot to start Sunday's racing action. While Markelon tried to set a fast pace, Fasnacht began catching up and was able to make the move for the lead when Markelon made a small mistake in a turn.

"It took me a while to move to the front and once I did it took me maybe three or four turns to get around Marissa," said Fasnacht. "After I got by, she sat on my back tire for a little bit, but I was finally able to make a big gap and try to check out."

The historic Ironman Raceway tested the WMX rider's fitness levels and skillset with the rough and rutted track. The conditions ultimately played a role when it came to the pass for the lead.
"I had the lead and the track was so rough and I just made a mistake and Kylie went by," Markelon said about the pass.

Fasnacht was able to begin gapping the rest of the field once she secured the lead position, and was able to cross the line with a comfortable gap over Markelon. Tricker stayed within striking distance of the two front-runners to finish third. Stone/Fly/Scott/Cycle Shack North Yamaha rider Kaitlyn Morrow placed fourth with Kawasaki-mounted Shelby Rolen rounding out the top-five.
Moto 2 was a near duplicate of the first moto, with Markelon jumping out to the early lead, with Fasnacht in tow. Markelon would face issues by the conclusion of the first lap after she dropped into a rut allowing a rock to wedge in her rear brake, rendering it useless.

"For pretty much the rest of the race I didn't have brakes," said Markelon. "My brakes came back with a couple of laps to go, so whatever was in my brakes must have fallen out near the end."
Kylie Fasnacht took home the overall win at Ironman Raceway with a pair of first place moto finishes.

With Markelon riding without a rear brake, it wasn't long before Fasnacht was able to capitalize on Markelon's misfortune.

"I caught up to Marissa and followed her for a couple of laps and then I was able to get by her and pull a lead," said Fasnacht. "I felt some pressure about halfway into the race and it was Markelon and Kaitlyn Morrow in a battle and they were catching me."

The battle between Markelon and Morrow carried the duo to within striking distance of Fasnacht, at which point Fasnacht put her head down and picked up the pace. "I just concentrated on my lines and tried to stay smooth and I was able to pull away from them," said Fasnacht.

Fasnacht cross the finish line with room to spare over Markelon in second. Morrow finished third, with Tricker and Rolen following in fourth and fifth. Fasnacht's win extended her lead in the series point standings to 30 points over Markelon, who came into the race still feeling the effects of an injury she suffered at the 35th Annual Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National at the Loretta Lynn Ranch just one month ago.

"At this point I have nothing left to lose, I have to go for it," said Markelon. "I don't think I was in the right mind-state coming into this race because of my injury and I was a bit apprehensive. I rode well but not like I should have. Kylie pulled away from me after getting around me."

Suzuki Announces Formation of RCH/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing

Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (SMAI) today announced the formation of RCH/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing as its premier 450 motocross and supercross team. This newly established effort combines SMAI, RCH Racing, and Yoshimura Racing & Development into a singular entity competing in the AMA Supercross and AMA Motocross championships.

“Suzuki has supported RCH Racing since its inception,” said Carey Hart, co-founder of RCH Racing along with 15-time AMA Champion Ricky Carmichael, “and Yoshimura has been an important factor in our success as well. Having just clinched the 2016 AMA Pro Motocross Championship, we have proven that we can win titles. We are excited to bring our strengths to the new RCH/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing Team.”

“Everyone at RCH is excited about the opportunity ahead of us and the partnerships we’ve created,” added Carmichael. “RCH always strives to be the best team in the paddock and this relationship positions all parties involved to do exactly that. It all starts with hard work, determination and uncompromised support from Yoshimura and Suzuki. With everyone working together focusing on the same goals, we expect to race for wins and championships for years to come.”
RCH/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing will be led by Kyle Bentley as team manager. The new team will make its debut at the 2017 AMA Supercross opener on January 7, in Anaheim. Riders will be announced later.

“Yoshimura and Suzuki have been racing partners for more than 40 years, both in the US and in Japan,” said Don Sakakura, president of Yoshimura Racing & Development, “and over the past few years, we have developed a strong relationship with RCH Racing as well. Everyone at Yoshimura is excited to be a part of this new factory effort and we look forward to building an even stronger racing presence.”

This move by SMAI is a continuation of the expansion the company is making in racing.
“Combining RCH and Yoshimura into a single team is part of our goal of strengthening the Suzuki brand in supercross and motocross,” said Kerry Graeber, SMAI’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Simultaneously, we are growing our grass roots programs, developing a new 250 effort, which will be announced shortly, and establishing RCH/Yoshimura/Suzuki as the recognized top rung of the ladder. All of this is being done to increase sales of Suzuki motocross and off-road products.”
