IRVINE, CA – May 12, 2011 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – The Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) applauds the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade’s quick action on the “Enhancing CPSC Authority and Discretion Act of 2011” (ECADA) discussion draft. The Subcommittee passed the draft bill today and referred it to the full Energy and Commerce Committee. MIC also thanks Subcommittee Chair Mary Bono Mack (R-CA) for her leadership on reform of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) and her support for clear, complete and permanent relief for the powersports industry and riders.
In a letter yesterday to Rep. Bono Mack, MIC General Counsel Paul Vitrano wrote, “While we continue to believe that the best way to ensure the continued availability of youth off-highway vehicles is to categorically exclude them from the lead content provisions, this proposed legislation, if enacted as drafted, would provide welcome relief and improve safety.”
Following today’s Subcommittee mark-up, Vitrano added, “MIC and its members reiterate their strong support for ECADA and urge its quick passage by the Energy and Commerce Committee.”
The Motorcycle Industry Council exists to preserve, protect and promote motorcycling through government relations, communications and media relations, statistics and research, aftermarket programs, development of data communications standards, and activities surrounding technical and regulatory issues. As a not-for-profit, national industry association, the MIC seeks to support motorcyclists by representing manufacturers and distributors of motorcycles, scooters, motorcycle/ATV/ROV parts and accessories, and members of allied trades such as insurance, finance and investment companies, media companies and consultants.
The MIC is headquartered in Irvine, Calif., with a government relations office adjacent to Washington, D.C. First called the MIC in 1970, the organization has been in operation since 1914. Visit the MIC at www.mic.org.

Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award Returns to the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship
Courtesy of MX Sports
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 11, 2011) - MX Sports Pro Racing and Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports, is proud to announce the return of the Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award for the 2011 season. Named for the single-most successful athlete in American Motocross history, the RC Hard Charger Award recognizes the one competitor at each of the 12 rounds of the championship tour who overtakes the highest number of his fellow racers in one of the four championship motos between the 250 and 450 Classes.
The award is a testament to the sport's greatest champion of all time; a reminder of Carmichael's never-give-up attitude during a career that included 10 consecutive AMA Motocross titles and an astonishing 102 race wins-each records that will likely never be broken. The Florida native's exceptional on-track success and reign of dominance during his illustrious career led to the moniker "The Greatest of All Time" and he is now affectionately known today simply as "The GOAT."
Carmichael, who also won five AMA Supercross Championships and 48 main events in that discipline, went out a winner in 2007, winning every outdoor race he entered in an abbreviated motocross schedule. This farewell tour allowed him to transition into his new career in auto racing, while keeping one boot firmly in his beloved sport of motocross.
Since 2008, Carmichael's legacy has continued to be enshrined in motocross history by giving this coveted award to the athlete who shows the most heart, speed and endurance at any given round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
Somewhat ironically, if there is a single race in his victory-packed career that best exemplifies this award, it was the Washougal 125cc National, held on August 1, 1999. It was at that race in which Carmichael, then riding for the Splitfire/Pro Circuit Kawasaki team, crashed on the start of both motos in the first turn. He got up last, and then proceeded to pass a total of 76 riders - an unofficial record for a single race in the 40-year history of the series - over the course of both motos. The irony is that he while he made it all the way up to second in each moto, he failed to secure the overall win.
"All the races I won and that's the one you guys have to bring up!" laughed Carmichael, at the reminder of that frantic afternoon from a dozen years ago. "I guess that it was a pretty good day for me, given the way it started, and I am probably as proud of the effort that I put in there as I am of any of my races. If any of the riders in this summer's series can grow inspiration from that, I would feel honored."
"The Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award has become something our athletes and fans really appreciate," said MX Sports Vice President Davey Coombs. "Ricky was tough to beat on any track on the tour, no matter what the conditions or whom he lined up against. To be as successful as he was - as often as he was - is to have the heart and work ethic of a true hero, and no one had more heart or worked harder than Ricky Carmichael."

Extremity Games Returns

Rochester Hills, MI – Returning to Baja Acres Motocross Park for 2011, the 6th annual Extremity Games will take place during Memorial Day weekend, on May 28th in Millington, Michigan. Backed by a group of loyal sponsors and supporters, Extremity Games will host motocross athletes from all over the world, who have not only overcome the challenges of living with limb loss or difference, but have also found unique ways to adapt to a sport that is already extremely challenging in its own right.
Organized by Athletes with Disabilities Network, Extremity Games 6 (eX6) represents a growing effort to provide exciting venues for athletes competing with limb loss (i.e. amputee, etc.) or limb difference (i.e. paraplegic, quadriplegic, etc.), as well as to celebrate and advocate the thrill of extreme sports. Aside from the motocross event in Michigan, Extremity Games will host another venue in San Antonio, Texas on June 24-25 for athletes competing in skateboarding, rock climbing, wakeboarding, sit-boarding, kayaking and mountain biking events.
“We’re extremely excited about our 6th year hosting Extremity Games”, said Athletes with Disabilities Network Executive Director, Beth Taylor. “The event has been growing in strides since its beginning, and we couldn’t be happier about the level of awareness and recognition that has been generated for athletes with disabilities.”
Beth continued by saying that more and more motocross racers reach out to Extremity Games each year, adding further competition and excitement to an already talented group of racers and past champions. One racer in particular has been looking forward to the new additions and says that in spite of the increased competition, he’s happy to see the growing participation.
“The upcoming Extremity Games is sort of like watching the 2011 AMA Monster Energy Supercross series…” says Jim Wazny, Extremity Games Motocross Director. “There are so many fast and talented guys who can win, you can’t help but immerse yourself in the excitement of what might happen.”
Along with a handful of new racers coming to the event for the first time, Jim will be joined by past medalists Chris Ridgway, “Monster” Mike Schultz, Todd Thompson, and Beau Meier in the Limb-Loss class. Other motocross favorites like Sampie Erasmus, Shane Shipley, and Nick Pappas will be racing an equally difficult pool of talent in the Limb-Difference division.

Courtesy of THQ
AGOURA HILLS, CA - May 10, 2011 – (Motor Sports Newswire) - THQ Inc. (NASDAQ: THQI) today released MX vs. ATV® Alive TM, the next offering from the 10 million unit-shipped MX vs. ATV series. This new title features enhanced physics, intense bar-to-bar action, and an in-game digital store that allows players to customize their game experience with a myriad of downloadable items, bikes, tracks and more. MX vs. ATV Alive is available for the Xbox 360® video game entertainment system from Microsoft and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system for a suggested retail price of $39.99 (U.S.). James Stewart’s personal motocross compound has been meticulously recreated and will be offered as a free digital download to consumers who buy a new copy of the game at launch.
MX vs. ATV Alive is the most realistic incarnation of the franchise, due in large part to upgrades made to the game’s physics engine. Along with including more than 50 professional riders, other franchise features have returned including track deformation and the Rider Reflex control system.
“MX vs. ATV Alive features action-packed gameplay, tons of new features, and finely tuned, intuitive controls which we are certain will appeal not only to our hardcore fans but also newcomers to the franchise,” said David Schwartz, General Manager of THQ Digital Studios Phoenix.
The game’s innovation doesn’t end with its development, as MX vs. ATV Alive also features a new digital download strategy. “Our ‘a la carte’ online distribution method gives players the flexibility to expand their gaming experience their way,” said Michael Lustenberger, Vice President, Global Brand Management – Online/Digital. Players will be able to download free digital items and purchase new content, including vehicles featuring real-life racing brands such as Yamaha, Suzuki, and KTM.

realMotocross sponsors Tyler Livesay
Courtesy of Real Motocross
realMotocross sponsors Tyler Livesay
realMotocross is excited to sponsor its first rider, Tyler Livesay. It’s a monumental moment for the new social network to be able to give support to it’s first amateur rider. Tyler is a previous champion at the super competitive Dade City Sponsors Cup - great riders from Bob Hanna to James Stewart have participated at Dade City. “Tyler’s reputation as a fierce competitor, as well as, his business minded demeanor made him a great candidate. However, what really set Tyler apart from the other hopefuls was his belief in what we are trying to accomplish with realMotocross and the initiative that he took to promote the site even before he was actually sponsored. We will be choosing future riders based on their activity on http://realmotocross.com because it gives a good gauge of how riders represent themselves to the masses. So if you have sponsors get on the site and brag about all the help they are giving you and you might just be our next rider.” explains, Iain Grae - CEO of realMotocross. Tyler who not only races but teaches motocross lessons at East Bay Motocross and for MotoE has also committed to posting riding tips on his profile for all members of realMotocross to utilize. Be sure to support Tyler if you see him track side at Dade City Sponsor Cup and ask him how to get involved with the realMotocross family. Take a look at Tyler’s Motocross Profile to learn more.
When Tyler was looking for a ride for 2011 he had a few different options that he was weighing. Because of past sponsors pulling the plug mid season the previous year he learned to be extremely diligent in acquiring sponsors for 2011. This was very difficult for him in 2010 because he is someone who will always tell you how he sees it and expects you to do the same back. In the end this was one of the main reasons Tyler decided to work with realMotocross. “You know you can ask anyone that knows anything about Tyler Livesay, if he's scared to speak the truth about anything or anyone and I'd be willing to bet there answer would be no way. So listen to me when I tell you this the people at realMotocross.com are legit! Honestly these people have become like family to me, stay true to their word, never lead you on, pick you up when your down. And these are only a few of the reasons I'm so proud to be part of the realMotocross.com family, thanks guys you’re the best!” remarks Tyler Livesay. Tyler also chose to work with realMotocross because he is a very social person - a motocross social network - was music to his ears.
About Tyler Livesay

At 22 years old he is one of the premier riders in the region and will be racing the entire Sponsors cup series. Because of his raw talent and boyish charm he is set to be the featured rider of the series and will be a major star in the series which will be aired by FUEL tv.
