Bel-Ray Race Report – Weekend Preview

The most exciting Supercross series in recent history is down to the final 2 rounds with Two Two Motorsports’ Chad Reed right in the middle of the championship hunt. Reed is just 6 points out of the lead and sits in second, heading into this weekend in Salt Lake City.

After a spectacular crash in the closing laps of the last race's main event, Reed remounted and held off a charging Ryan Villopoto to secure 3rd place and gain 2 points on the points leader heading into this weekend. The Dodge Motorsports / Hart and Huntington team of Ivan Tedesco and Chris Blose have both been struggling with injuries this season, but still sit inside the top 15 in the points standings. Blose is in 14th, while Tedesco is in 10th, as the series winds down.

While Supercross is drawing to a close, the Moto GP season is just getting started. Round 3 of the MotoGP season heads to Portugal and the Estoril circuit this weekend. The Bel-Ray backed Tech 3 Moto2 Team returns to action after a short break in the schedule. After a 4th place finish in Spain, Bradley Smith is looking to step up onto the podium this weekend. Teammate Mike DiMeglio's 26th place finish in Spain is far from where the French rider wants to be. He is ready for action this weekend and looking to improve.

Langston - Grant - Durham - Hahn on DMXS Radio Tonight!

Langston - Grant - Durham - Hahn on DMXS Radio Tonight!

Grant Langston has always been a fan favorite for good reason.  His heart on the track and great personality off has won over fans world wide.  We always enjoy catching up with the Zulu Warrior and look forward to some good old fashioned bench racing with him tonight.

Factory Honda’s Josh Grant has watched this epic season unfold from the sidelines after his injury at round 2 in Phoenix.  Unfortunately, the dreaded ACL surgery recovery is not one that can rushed and will have Josh out for some of the outdoors as well.  We wanted to get the latest on his progress and hear his take on the season with only two rounds remaining.

Eleven 10 Mods’ Darryn Durham had a slow start to the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Lites East series after injuring his flipper, but has put in some solid rides after returning at Jacksonville.  Darryn is a great kid that we’ve known since he was almost in diapers and is always a fun interview.

GEICO Honda’s Wil Hahn is so close to being back on the bike he can almost taste the roost.  We’ll get the latest on Lil Wil and let him retaliate after his older brother Tommy let a few family secrets slip on the show a few weeks back.

We want to welcome on our newest sponsor, Skull Candy.  As you know, they make the sickest headphones, earbuds and gaming headsets, all with lifetime warranties.  We will be giving away plenty of free swag to some lucky listeners all year long so make sure you tune in weekly for your chance.  Check them out at www.skullcandy.com.

Popular Amateur Day Racing Program Supports
2011 Lucas Oil Motocross Championship

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 22, 2011) - The core of motocross in America has long been rooted in the strong amateur racing scene featuring the future stars of the sport. As American Motocross enters its 40th year of world-class competition, MX Sports Pro Racing and the National Promoters Group (NPG) announce the 2011 Amateur Days schedule that will run in conjunction with each round of this summer's Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
For 12 weeks, the world's best riders engage in battle on the track for over 60 minutes across two grueling motos each Saturday afternoon, but before and after the pros take to the track, amateurs and enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels will have their chance to be a part of the outdoor nationals. Whether it's racing bar-to-bar, or just enjoying a Sunday ride on the track, motocross lovers from all over the country can be a part of American Motocross through the Amateur Day Program and, in some cases, will even have the chance to compete on the same hallowed ground as the stars of the sport.
"Amateur Days were some of my greatest memories with my family," said defending Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross 450 Class Champion Ryan Dungey. "There was nothing like racing the week of a national and then watching all the riders I looked up to compete on the same track. It brought an end to a perfect week and the best part about it was that I was able to enjoy it with my mom, my dad and my brothers."
"The family atmosphere and the bond amongst loved ones is an underlying foundational element of the Amateur Day Program," said MX Sports Vice President Davey Coombs. "On any given weekend, hundreds of campgrounds will be set up as families come to the track together and more often that not, compete together simply out of love for the sport."
The 2011 Amateur Day schedule kicks off on Thursday, May 19, during the opening weekend of the season at the Rockstar Energy Hangtown Motocross Classic in Rancho Cordova, Calif. From there, 11 additional weekends will give amateurs from all over the country a one-of-a-kind chance to ride, which only takes place once a year, before coming to a conclusion the weekend of September 10 from Pala, Calif.

Bel-Ray Race Report – Seattle Wrap-Up

Round 15 of The Monster Energy Supercross series took place on Saturday night at Qwest Field in Seattle, Washington. With the 2011 series drawing to a close, the Bel-Ray backed race teams were prepared for action.

Rains leading up to the event meant a difficult and challenging track was in store for the Supercross racers. The timed qualifying section of the event program was shortened to allow time for extra track preparation.  TwoTwo Motorsports / Bel-Ray Racing’s Chad Reed set the 6th fastest time in the evening’s qualifying with a 52.931 lap time, while Dodge / Hart and Huntington / Bel-Ray Racing teammates, Chris Blose and Ivan Tedesco were 14th and 15th with 54.934 and 55.198 respective lap times.

All three racers qualified directly to the main event out if their heat race, with Blose finishing 6th and Reed 7th in heat race #1, while Tedesco was 5th in heat race #2. All three racers have made every main event, quite a feat in this exceptional season.

Tedesco again got a fantastic start and was the winner of the Nuclear Cowboyz holeshot award. Reed too got a good start and grabbed the early lead from Tedesco. Reed would battle series’ rival, James Stewart, but when Stewart passed him, Reed settled into second place. Riding a consistent main event, Reed held second until just 2 laps from the of end. Getting cross-rutted in a rhythm section, he went over the bars in a spectacular crash. He was quickly back up and under way, but Kevin Windham got past the Two Two Motorsports’ rider. Additionally, series points leader, Ryan Villopoto, was now right on Reed’s back fender, challenging him for the final spot in the podium. In a 2 lap drag race, Villopoto and Reed battled each other with Reed holding off a charging Villopoto for third place. Riding injured, Tedesco held on for 14th and Blose, injured as well, finished  19th.

With his podium finish, Reed surpassed Supercross legend, Jeremy McGrath to take the lead on the all-time Supercross podium list.

With only 2 rounds left, Reed is in 2nd in the points standings, just 6 points behind the series leader, Villopoto. Tedesco is in 10th and Blose is in 14th.

The Supercross series will take its first weekend off since the series started in January, but returns to action in Salt Lake City on April 30th.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (April 14, 2011) Rockwell Time is excited to announce their support of newly crowned Arenacross Champion Tyler Bowers for the remaining three rounds of Supercross in Seattle, Salt Lake, and Vegas. Bowers will be pitting under the Rockwell semi at each race as he attempts to shake things up in the premier class.  Lack of confidence will definitely not be a problem for Bowers coming into his first Supercross race of the season as he recently wrapped up the Arenacross Championship in convincing fashion and brought home another title for Team Babbitt’s Kawasaki.

“We are excited to have Tyler on board with us for these last few rounds.  We have a great relationship with the Babbitt’s team and we are thankful that we could help them out at Supercross.  I’m excited to see what Tyler can do.  He has looked great out at the Kawasaki test track and I think he’ll put in some solid results.  Also, be sure to check out Tyler’s Championship 50mm watch that we built for him for taking the AX Championship.  I’m sure he’ll be rockin’ it proudly in the pits,” states Rockwell Moto Manager, Casey Bywater.

Rockwell would like to thank the whole crew at Team Babbitt’s for letting them be involved with their racing efforts and be sure to check out the #911 this weekend as Bowers takes his bar banging Arenacross skills to the stadium lights of Quest Field.

MX Trader Supercross Report

Courtesy of MX Trader.net
Two good things happened for the MXTrader.net rider, AJ Catanzaro in Arlington, TX on Saturday night.
Catanzaro made the main easily despite fighting to keep the seat on his bike during his heat race. The front tab that connects the seat to the gas tank became damaged after a crash during practice.
He survived the challenging whoop section that caused many top riders to go buck wild as if they were riding a mechanical bull instead of a dirt bike. But he found them not so threatening.
“Dallas was a good track. The whoops were huge which I liked.”
While a temporary fix to the seat tab did not sustain in the main, which affected Catanzaro’s capability to attack the track, the young rider was still positive about the night.
“My qualifying times were fast and my heat race was good, so I was pretty happy with how I rode.”
18th place is not where Catanzaro expected or wanted to finish, but with one round left in the AMA Supercross Lites Class East, the MXTrader.net rider, number 330 still has his sights on a top ten finish in St. Louis this Saturday night.
“I know I have the speed, I just need to put it together in the main for 15 laps.”
As we near the completion of the AMA Supercross Lites East rounds, Catanzaro is preparing to race the outdoor nationals, but said he needs the help and support to stay competitive and make it to all the rounds.
“I’m hoping someone will see my talent and step up to get me to the races, because I know I can do awesome outdoors."

"Industry Bonus Awards are a great way for some of our motorcycle industry friends and partners to participate in our series, and give something back to the riders at the same time through the payment of contingency money."
The program covers all three professional classes for 2011. Riders who wish to participate can register at the time of event entry for each respective IBA program.
In addition, bonus award packages are still available from MX Sports Pro Racing. Benefits of IBA support include additional exposure and season event credentials. For more information on the IBA program, please contact Jeff Canfield at jcanfield@mxsports.com.

Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Welcomes Oakley as Major Series Sponsor for 2011 and Beyond

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 6, 2011) - MX Sports Pro Racing has announced that Oakley, one of the most iconic brands in the sports world, has made a multi-year commitment to become a major series sponsor of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, which is produced by MX Sports Pro Racing and its strategic partner Alli Sports. The announcement comes as the series celebrates its 40th year as the most prestigious motocross championship in the world.
"Oakley's roots originated in motocross more than 35 years ago and to this day, the brand is still committed to sponsoring the best athletes in the business," said Anthony Paggio, Oakley Two-Wheel Motorsports manager. "It's only fitting for Oakley to partner with the sport's most prestigious race series in order to take the brand's relationship with motocross to the next level. The AMA Pro Motocross Championship provides Oakley the platform to reach out and interact with the dedicated fans of this great sport and showcase the brand's superior technology in the industry. Oakley is excited to see this new relationship with MX Sports Pro Racing grow."
The story of how Oakley came to be is one of the all-time great American success stories. The Southern California-based company was founded by Jim Jannard in the late 1970s when the future entrepreneur began selling motocross parts from the back an old van while traveling to the races. Through tireless hard work and innovation, Jannard was able to build the Oakley brand into a multi-billion dollar global business.
"Having Oakley come on board as a key partner in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship is a big win for this series," added Mark Carter, General Manager of Strategic Alliances for Alli Sports. "Oakley has played a major role supporting some of the best motocross riders in history, and this three-year series partnership will now enable the Oakley brand to formulate a well-rounded platform, touching the hearts and minds of all motocross fans."
"Oakley has always supported American Motocross, and their history is lined with many of the biggest heroes our sport has ever known," said Davey Coombs, Vice-President of MX Sports Pro Racing. "Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart, Ryan Villopoto, Johnny O'Mara, Jeff Ward, Mark Barnett, Ricky Johnson, Mike Bell, the list goes on and on. Even today's reigning AMA Pro Motocross champion-Ryan Dungey-is an Oakley athlete. We're all proud to now have Oakley as a major series partner in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship."

Bel-Ray Race Report - Weekend Wrap-Up

Bel-Ray Race Report - Weekend Wrap-Up

What a difference a week makes. The 2011 Supercross series will go down in history as one of the best. Bel-Ray backed, Two Two Motorsport’s Chad Reed has been front and center in all of the action.

After setting the 2nd fastest time in qualifying with a 49.014 fast lap, Reed rode to a 4th place in his heat race, the main event is where things would get interesting.

Reed got off the line well and was running in second behind race leader, Trey Canard, in the early laps of the main event. Series rival, James Stewart, was stalking him and would eventually get by. But Reed regrouped and fought back to pass Stewart, and set off to catch Canard, who was getting away from the rest of the field. Stewart too regrouped and was right on Reed’s rear wheel when disaster struck. Stewart’s out-of-control pass attempt sent him and his bike flying into the side of Reed, sending the Bel-Ray backed racer over the tuff blocks and onto the concrete stadium floor. Stewart remained on the track and it was clear that Reed got the worst of this encounter. Riding a badly damaged machine, Reed was able to salvage an 8th place for the night and now sits in second in the points standings, just 6 points out of the lead. With only 4 rounds left this season, the series has proven that anything can happen.

Both Hart and Huntington / Dodge Motorsports team members, Ivan Tedesco and Chris Blose have been battling injuries all season, but they are 2 of only 10 racers to make every main event this season. Dallas would be no exception. In timed qualifying, Tedesco was 15th fastest with a 51.172” fast lap, while Blose was 16th with a 51.680” lap time. Heat racing was successful for both riders as well. Blose finished 8th in the first heat race and Tedesco was an impressive 3rd in the second heat race. In main event racing, Tedesco and Blose each experienced a consistent race, with Blose finishing 13th by the end of the 20 laps, and teammate Tedesco was 2 spots behind him in 15th. Tedesco is 10th in the overall season standings while Blose is in 14th, with only 4 rounds left.

The series heads to St. Louis, Missouri this Saturday night. Catch all of the great action on CBS on Sunday at 12:00pm ET.

Another great weekend of racing awaits team Bel-Ray next week. Watch www.belray.com  for results and race reports all season long.    Was this post helpful? Add yours to our service or subscribe to our feed above.

Bel-Ray Press Release-Dallas Supercross Preview

Two Two Motorsports / Bel-Ray racer, Chad Reed goes into this weekend’s 13th round of the Monster Energy Supercross series in a familiar position, the points lead. After an exciting trip north of the border to Toronto, Canada, Reed emerged with a second place for the night and a 3 point lead in the chase for the championship. During his career, the multi-time champion has been the points leader on many occasions and the veteran is used to the pressure that being in the lead brings.

After an off-weekend in Toronto, the Hart and Huntington / Dodge Motorsports team of Ivan Tedesco and Chris Blose is looking to improve on their 18th and 17th place finishes.

Both racers remain in the Top 15 in the season points standings. Tedesco sits in eleventh and Blose in fourteenth going into the next round in Dallas, Texas.
