Bel-Ray Race Report - Weekend Wrap-Up
What a difference a week makes. The 2011 Supercross series will go down in history as one of the best. Bel-Ray backed, Two Two Motorsport’s Chad Reed has been front and center in all of the action.
After setting the 2nd fastest time in qualifying with a 49.014 fast lap, Reed rode to a 4th place in his heat race, the main event is where things would get interesting.
Reed got off the line well and was running in second behind race leader, Trey Canard, in the early laps of the main event. Series rival, James Stewart, was stalking him and would eventually get by. But Reed regrouped and fought back to pass Stewart, and set off to catch Canard, who was getting away from the rest of the field. Stewart too regrouped and was right on Reed’s rear wheel when disaster struck. Stewart’s out-of-control pass attempt sent him and his bike flying into the side of Reed, sending the Bel-Ray backed racer over the tuff blocks and onto the concrete stadium floor. Stewart remained on the track and it was clear that Reed got the worst of this encounter. Riding a badly damaged machine, Reed was able to salvage an 8th place for the night and now sits in second in the points standings, just 6 points out of the lead. With only 4 rounds left this season, the series has proven that anything can happen.
Both Hart and Huntington / Dodge Motorsports team members, Ivan Tedesco and Chris Blose have been battling injuries all season, but they are 2 of only 10 racers to make every main event this season. Dallas would be no exception. In timed qualifying, Tedesco was 15th fastest with a 51.172” fast lap, while Blose was 16th with a 51.680” lap time. Heat racing was successful for both riders as well. Blose finished 8th in the first heat race and Tedesco was an impressive 3rd in the second heat race. In main event racing, Tedesco and Blose each experienced a consistent race, with Blose finishing 13th by the end of the 20 laps, and teammate Tedesco was 2 spots behind him in 15th. Tedesco is 10th in the overall season standings while Blose is in 14th, with only 4 rounds left.
The series heads to St. Louis, Missouri this Saturday night. Catch all of the great action on CBS on Sunday at 12:00pm ET.
