Bel-Ray Racers Score Top 20 Results at Red Bud

FARMINGDALE, N.J. (July 8, 2013) ―The 4th of July holiday weekend means just one thing for United States motocross fans -- Red Bud. The famous track situated in Buchanan, Michigan has hosted an AMA National since 1974, and the hot humid mid-west weather typically lends itself to excellent racing. Bel-Ray racers would compete in both the 250MX and 450MX classes to mixed results.

250MX class racing was led by Bel-Ray-backed Rockstar Energy Racing’s Jason Anderson. The New Mexico native has been showing flashes of speed for several weeks now but unfortunately hasn’t found the podium in this highly competitive class. At Red Bud, Anderson qualified second overall in timed qualifying and was poised to make a run at the top spot. While running inside the top 10 early in the moto, Anderson came together with another racer, damaging the spokes on both his wheels. A pit stop was necessary to change both wheels, and the time lost put him behind the field, from where he could only manage a 34th place finish. The second moto was much better for Anderson, as he charged through the pack from an early position outside the top 15 to a respectable 6th place finish. He was credited with 13th overall and remains at 6th place in the points standings after 7 of 12 rounds. “My day was pretty good; well, kind of good. I ended up like 34-6 but by the 34th I was riding really good,” said Anderson following the second moto. “I just had bad luck and in the 6th I had a bad gate pick and was just working through the pack the whole time. So I ended up OK.”
Bel-Ray privateers, New Jersey’s Dakota Kessler and Pennsylvania’s Steve Roman, also had good finishes at Red Bud. Kessler’s 22-23 moto scores earned him 25th overall, while Roman’s 35-37 moto scores were good for 38th overall.
In 450 class racing action, Bel-Ray-backed Rockstar Energy Racing’s Ryan Sipes led the Bel-Ray racers' results. His 13th overall was a result of 12-14 moto scores. The results are not an indication of his speed, as Sipes is often one of the fastest racers on the track during the moto. Sipes spoke with some disappointment following the second moto. “It was a bad weekend; well, not awful. I’m healthy and everything. I’m just kind of struggling a little bit. I don’t know; I need to get my ducks in a row. I don’t wanna ride around in the back, so I’m looking forward to Washougal.”
Bel-Ray privateers also showed good finishes at Red Bud. Michigan’s Nick Wey has shown promise on his return to racing from a serious injury last season. His 17-16 moto finishes were good for 17th overall, followed by Colorado privateer Derek Anderson in 26th with 27-21 finishes and New Jersey’s Ronnie Stewart’s 25-24 for 27th overall.
