Gate drops on 20 years of Cobra Moto @ Loretta’s

The American-made dirt bikes, which debuted on Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in 1994, are set to stand tall against the rest of the field in the 50 & 65cc classes

HILLSDALE, Mich., (July 29, 2013) – The Super Bowl of amateur motocross racing kicks off today in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., and the world’s premier competition mini bikes - built right here in the United States by Michigan-based Cobra Moto - will take center stage in this the company’s 20^th anniversary of racing the great Red Bull Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by AMSOIL at famed country singer Loretta Lynn’s Ranch.

As always, Cobra Moto’s loaded-for-bear at Loretta’s, this week featuring another all-star lineup like past ones that have delivered to Cobra more 50cc class championships through the past 20 years than any other mini cycle brand, as well as – by far – any American-made motorcycle company.

“Loretta’s is what we work for at Cobra … why we catch a couple hours sleep slumped over at a desk in our design room, living with perpetually sore backs and bloodied knuckles, all in the name of designing and building the best competition mini cycles possible for these kids,” said Sean Hilbert, President of Cobra Moto. “Loretta’s is our Super Bowl, our Daytona 500 and World Series – all wrapped into one week of the best amateur motocross racing you’ll find in the world.”

Last year at Loretta’s Utah’s Pierce Brown – aboard the Cobra Moto CX65 – made history when he won the first-ever 65cc class amateur national motocross title on an American-made dirt bike. Brown was joined in the exclusive Loretta’s champion circle by Cobra 50cc racers Ryder Di Francesco (California) and Jayden Taylor (Michigan), giving Cobra Moto three major championships in 2012.

Returning to lead Cobra Moto and with two more shots at championships in the 7-8 50cc class is Di Francesco. One of the heralded “Bakersfield Boyz,” Di Francesco will have to deal with a red-hot Cobra Moto factory stable mate in Jett Reynolds, who flat out dominated both the Vegas Mini GPs and Ponca City (Okla.) this year, sweeping the Stock & Mod classes at the GPs and winning an unheard of 16 of 18 motos – in one day – on his Cobra King 50 & CX65 at Ponca!

The ever-consistent Reed Cooper (New York) joins Di Francesco and Reynolds as a favorite to podium at Loretta’s in the 7-8 class, along with Californian’s Brock Bennett and Tyler Blankenship, Florida’s Evan Ferry (son of MX great Tim Ferry) and Missouri’s Brock Lassiter.

Cobra Moto’s 50JR is expected to again run the table in the 4-6 50cc class with what Hilbert called the “One of the deepest fields in recent years.” Leading Cobra into battle on the little bikes will be California’s Haiden Deegan, son of MX/FMX great Brian Deegan, and Jordan Torres, Arizona’s Noah Gordon, Tennessee’s Casey Cochran, Texas’ Codee Samples (who won the 50cc Stock Limited class last year at Loretta’s) and Tommy LeClere and Michigan’s Cole Kish.

Cobra Moto’s picking up right where it left off in 2012 with, and it bears repeating, the first-ever 65cc Loretta’s MX championship won on an American-made bike. Top Cobra names from the 50cc 7-8 class contesting the 65cc 7-9 class include; Reynolds, Lassiter, Bennett and Cooper along with super-seven-year-old Evan Slosser (Washington), Iowa’s Gage Steburg, Colorado’s Cade Britt and New York’s Hunter Layton.

Cobra Moto Flashback … With good starts and relentless pursuit of the racers in front of him, Brown didn’t just win the 65 7-9 Stock class in 2012 – he ruled it.

Leading the first moto by nearly 30 seconds at the end of the race sent home a message – one that even a fall (and subsequent 15-second margin-of-victory over 2^nd place) would back up. Two more motos with roughly nine-second victories later and Brown and the Cobra CX65 had swept the class with a 1^st/1^st/1^st effort for Cobra’s first-ever 65cc class overall win at Loretta’s.

So can Jett Reynolds duplicate Pierce Brown’s effort from 2012? Stay tuned as action gets underway tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. (CST) at Loretta’s in the 65cc 7-9 class!
