OSBORNE EXTENDS 250 POINTS LEAD
The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team had a successful day on Saturday as they returned to the track for the fourth round of the 2017 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, held at the High Point National in Mt. Morris, Penn. Zach Osborne earned 2nd overall and extended his lead in 250 rider point standings, while teammate Jason Anderson earned 2nd overall in 450, his third podium finish in a row. Teammates Dean Wilson, Martin Davalos and Michael Mosiman finished 8th, 10th, and 20th, respectively, in their classes.
Zach Osborne was second at the start of the first 250 moto, moved to third, then put in some solid laps the remainder of the race. He made the pass for second on the sixth lap then set his sights on the lead. He was stalking the front of the pack in lap nine then dropped the hammer. He made an easy outside pass to overtake the lead, started pulling away, and continued to put on a great ride to take home his third moto victory of the season. He started in the top-10 in moto two and was ninth by the end of the first lap. He started to push and made his way through the pack before moving into fifth a few laps later. He quickly navigated into the top-four before turning it up a notch to overtake third with eight minutes to go. He then made an impressive pass for second and held strong to the finish. The 1-2 finish gave him second overall on the day and extended his points lead to 18 points in 250 rider point standings.
“Overall it was a good day,” said Osborne. “I extended my points lead to 18 and won a moto, so it’s a good rebound from where I was in Colorado a couple weeks ago. I feel great and I’m happy with the way I rode."
Jason Anderson was the fastest 450 qualifier of the day aboard his Husqvarna FC 450. He got a mid pack start in the first 450 moto and charged up to sixth by the end of the first lap. He was showing some serious speed as he navigated closer to the front of the pack, and was fourth by lap three. He was pushing hard, but then crashed in the turning roller section, which sent him back to ninth. He quickly remounted and put on an amazing ride despite going down two more times. Getting creative with his lines, he made it up to sixth with five minutes to go and continued to battle. He made the pass for fifth at the end of the race and finished fifth. He was second at the start of the second moto and immediately went on the charge to overtake the lead. He made the pass stick before the end of the first lap but stayed close to the riders in second and third. He continued to battle for position, quickly fell back to fourth, then pushed back up to third a few laps later and settled into a steady pace to finish third. The 5-3 finish gave him second overall on the day, and he is currently fourth in 450 rider point standings.
“The day started out great with me being the fastest qualifier,” said Anderson. “I crashed a couple times in the first moto but still finished fifth. The second moto was a little more tough, but I’m just going to go back to the drawing board and will come back strong next week."
Dean Wilson pulled a mid-pack start in the first 450 moto and closed out the first lap in 10th. He kept it consistent and still occupied tenth by the fifth lap, and would eventually make the pass for ninth where he finished. He got an excellent start in the second moto and was battling in fourth at the end of the first lap. He put in multiple solid laps before going back to ninth then put in one last charge to finish seventh. The 9-7 finish put him at eighth overall on the day. He is currently seventh overall in 450 rider point standings.
“It was pretty muddy out there today,” said Wilson. “I’m not the best in the mud, but I tried my hardest. I ended up ninth in the first moto, but was determined to do better in the second moto. I was in fourth, and was in a good position to do well then just fell over in a turn. I still finished seventh and ended up eighth overall. It was great to be running up in the top-four in the first few laps."
Martin Davalos got a decent start in the first 450 moto and was in the top-10 by the end of the first lap. He pushed hard, but fell back to 12th by the fifth lap and stayed close to finish 13th. He started in the top-10 in the second moto and was charging hard in eighth by lap two. He put on a solid ride to finish 10th. The 13-10 finish gave him 12th overall. He is currently 12th in 450 rider point standings.
“The track was gnarly today,” said Davalos. “It was really sloppy and muddy. They did a good job fixing it up but it was still pretty challenging. I got 13th the first moto and 10th the second moto. I felt really good. It was the first hot national - which I like. I’m just looking forward to improving a little bit more."
Michael Mosiman went down in a massive pileup at the start of the first 250 moto, remounted, and started putting in work to make his way through the field. He surged from near last to 22nd by the sixth lap, and pushed even harder to charge up to 17th by the finish. He was mid-pack at the start of the second moto and was riding hard in 12th by the end of the first lap. He stayed focused and made it into the top-10 by lap six before a crash sent him to the back of the pack. The 17-36 finish gave him 20th overall on the day. He is currently 13th in 250 rider point standings.
The team will now head to the fifth round of the series behind held next Saturday at the Tennessee National in Blountville, Tenn.
