TOP 10 MOTO RESULTS FOR SUZUKI’S JASIKONIS IN RUSSIA

Arminas Jasikonis – 7-7 for 8th 

Arminas Jasikonis put his RM-Z450WS inside the top 10 in both motos of the MXGP of Russia in what were horrible conditions for all the riders. Rain overnight, coupled with a heavy downpour before the motos meant the track was a real test, but Jasikonis responded well to the task and went 7-7 for eighth overall. 

The Lithuanian rider then gave his thoughts on what was a very difficult the weekend: “It’s was day and night, the difference between the track yesterday and then today. It’s rained so hard for about two hours and made the track so tricky. The first race wasn’t too bad as the mud wasn’t so sticky yet so the bikes weren’t so heavy. I got off to an ok start in that race and after the first lap I was around sixth but I had to pull into the pit lane because I had some trouble with my goggles. I changed my goggles and was still able to finish seventh which was quite good. 

“In the second moto I had a big wheel spin on the starting mesh, so I was dead last but I made a really fast first lap with no mistakes and I was already up to around eighth. In the moto I was feeling good and catching guys; Gautier Paulin crashed in front of me so I was already up to fourth but then I immediately made a mistake and fell over. The bike was so heavy to pick up because it was just covered in mud so after that I wasn’t really able to push too hard and ended up in seventh place again. I feel a bit disappointed about the second moto because I felt like it could have been so good. I want to thank all the team though because they also have to work so hard in these conditions and with all this travel too, so a big thanks to them.” 

Team Manager Stefan Everts had this to say about AJ’s results: “He finished twice in seventh position but I think it was possible for him to have done a little better today. In the first moto, his speed was good enough to have finished in the top five and again in the second moto. He got into fourth at one point in that race, and that was coming all the way back from dead last after spinning on the starting mesh. Unfortunately he dropped it when in fourth and from then on, it was a tough race with a very heavy bike. It’s positive though because we both know that there is more to come and that seventh isn’t enough. This is a big change from the beginning of the year and it shows how far he has come.”

Unfortunately Kevin Strijbos is still missing after his elbow injury, but he will see a doctor on Tuesday that will hopefully give him a better idea of what he will return to MXGP action. With an off-weekend next week, the championship resumes in Ottobiano, Italy on June 24th.
