MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - Just weeks after celebrating
the conclusion of an epic 40th season of professional motocross racing,
MX Sports Pro Racing and partners, Alli Sports, are pleased to announce
the 2012 schedule for the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. The
series will begin on Saturday, May 19, near Sacramento, Calif., at the Hangtown Classic-the
longest-running event on the schedule-and will conclude on September 8
in Southern California, at the championship’s newest stop (to be
announced at a later date). Throughout the summer, the 12-round series
will visit such highly-regarded motocross circuits as High Point, in Pennsylvania,RedBud, in Michigan, Washougal, in Washington, and New York’s legendary Unadilla.
“We are very fortunate to have so many great, iconic motocross tracks
as part of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship-tracks that
challenge the racers and have strong, loyal fan bases that come out to
see these races,” said MX Sports Pro Racing President Davey Coombs.
“This series is the pinnacle of professional motocross, and the growth
we’ve seen in the last three years for both the live audiences and
television viewers watching from all over the world has been
outstanding.”
Not only does the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship include
the best tracks in the sport, it also features the fastest riders on the
planet, as well as an expanded television package with NBC Sports
Group. Add in a global television package that allows fans from all over
the world to tune in, plus live event streaming on www.allisports.com,
and the result is an unprecedented audience for motocross racing.
Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan
Villopoto will defend his #1 plate against no less than three former
450 Class Champions in 2012. Besides the man he wrestled the 2011 title
from, Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey, as well as a hugely-popular Australian star in TwoTwo Motorsports’ Chad Reed, Villopoto must also contend with James
Stewart, who is returning to outdoor motocross for the first time since
his perfect 2008 season as a member of the Joe Gibbs
Racing/Toyota/Yamaha team. There will also be challenges from such
formidable programs as Team Honda Muscle Milk, the Yoshimura Suzuki
factory team, MotoConcepts/Alessi Racing, the new L&Mc Racing Honda
team spearheaded by legend Jeremy McGrath, and more.
In the 250 Class, newly-crowned champion, and Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider, Dean
Wilson will not only have to defend his title against the best young
riders in America, he will also be pursued by the two most recent MX2
World Champions. Frenchman Marvin Musquin and German sensation Ken
Roczen have each earned Grand Prix titles on 250cc motorcycles, and
will now join forces at Red Bull KTM to challenge Wilson for the
most-coveted outdoor title in the sport, a Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross
Championship. Add in the formidable GEICO Honda team, DNA Shred
Stix/Star Racing Yamaha, Rockstar Energy Suzuki, JDR KTM, in addition to
Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil Honda, and the 2012 season is ripe for
exceptional competition.
Additionally, the Women’s Motocross Championship will be included at
eight rounds. Led by defending champion, Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Ashley
Fiolek, who claimed her third title in four years as a pro, the world’s
fastest women riders are set to bring even more excitement to the
series. Fiolek can once again expect serious competition from her
primary rival, and fellow multi-time champion, Jessica Patterson of the DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing Yamaha team.
Following the traditional opener at Hangtown, series favorites - Freestone, Thunder Valley, High Point, Budds Creek, RedBud, Spring Creek, Washougal, Southwick, Unadilla and Steel
City - all return to compose the bulk of the 2012 schedule. While some
venues’ traditional dates on the calendar have shifted, they remain as
part of the integral foundation of American Motocross.
The season finale will feature a new venue in the motocross hotbed of
Southern California. Details and additional information will follow.
Tickets for all 12 rounds of the 2012 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross
Championship will be on sale on Moto Monday, December 5th. Fans eager to
get a head start on plans for next summer can simply log onto the
official website of American Motocross at AlliSports.com/motocross. Special holiday promotions for advance purchasers will be available.

Champions honored at the AMA Visa Card Racing Championship Banquet
Courtesy of AMA
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) welcomed a full house of AMA champions and their families, friends and fans to the Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa in Las Vegas, Nev., on Sunday, Nov. 20, for the AMA Visa Card from Capital One Racing Championship Banquet. The banquet celebrated racers' championship seasons and awarded a number of special awards that acknowledge the standout performances of top competitors.
Speaking at the banquet, Stan Simpson, the chairman of the AMA's Board of Directors, thanked all AMA racers for their contribution to making motorcycle racing the exciting sport it has become.
"On behalf of the board of directors of the American Motorcyclist Association, our AMA staff, and each and every AMA member, I congratulate all of you for your successful seasons," Simpson said, addressing the crowd. "Your skill and determination have earned you a place among this elite group of champions and taken you to the top of amateur racing. The AMA has its roots in amateur motorcycle racing. But not only are you our past, you also represent the future of motorcycling. You are the backbone of the AMA."
Hundreds of top competitors, in disciplines ranging from land-speed racing to motocross to woods racing and everything in between, received their national championship trophies and No. 1 plates at the banquet. Special awards included AMA Athlete of the Year honors.
The AMA's highest competitive honor, the AMA Athlete of the Year, has evolved for 2011. The award now includes two categories of outstanding AMA racers. One award recognizes an athlete who stands atop an AMA National Championship Series, and another honors one of the amateur racers who has proven his mettle at an AMA Grand Championship event.
The AMA National Championship Athlete of the Year award was won by Russell Bobbitt, the overall champion of the 2011 AMA Racing Rekluse National Enduro Championship Series, presented by Moose Racing. Bobbitt won four rounds of the 10-round series. Notably, the FMF/KTM rider overcame a mid-season injury to battle back in the highly competitive series and ultimately dominate the final round in a must-win scenario to capture the title over his teammate and defending National Enduro Champion Charlie Mullins.
"I really didn't think I was going to get this at all," Bobbitt said. "I'm kind of blown away right now. With all the other nominees -- Kurt Caselli, Taddy (Blazusiak), Charlie (Mullins) and (Pat) Smage -- all those guys are really good. So many of them are on KTMs, and I just think it's amazing what everyone's accomplished. It was a great year for me. I'm really excited about this, but I want to congratulate all the other riders for their stellar years. I'm looking forward to next year. I know we have a great team behind us."
Daniel Bromley won the AMA Grand Championship Athlete of the Year Award. The Pennsylvania dirt-tracker has earned 36 AMA amateur national championships in his career. In 2011, his last season as an amateur, Bromley won the AMA Dirt Track Horizon Award; the 250cc Modified Two-Stroke, 250cc DTX Grand Championships; the 250cc DTX Short-Track, 250cc DTX TT, 250cc Modified Two-Stroke Short-Track, 250cc Modified Two-Stroke TT, and 251cc-500cc DTX TT National Championships. He also competed in the AMA Racing Winter Dirt Track Championship Series where he won the 250cc DTX championship.
"I'm pretty speechless. It's a pretty big honor," said Bromley, who competes on KTM motorcycles with his older brother, Joseph. "Having a brother to race and compete with is really helpful because he's out there helping me on the track, and I'm helping him. His lines are usually better than mine, so that helps. Having someone there supporting you on the track and off the track is really important. My goals for 2012 are to hit Daytona and most of the short-track and TTs. I want to make the (AMA Pro Racing) Pro Single mains because that's where it begins."
The AMA ATV Athlete of the Year Award was won by the most dominant rider in the history of XC2 Pro-Am class competition in the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series: Yamaha rider Walker Fowler. Fowler, of Rogers, Ohio, won every round of the off-road racing series against the fastest ATV riders in the country.
"It was just a crazy year for sure -- a dream season," Fowler said. "I don't think I'll ever be able to do it again. It's every racer's dream to be able to do something that no one else can. But there are a lot more goals in front of me that are the same thing, and that's what keeps us racers going. I just want to thank the AMA for giving us all these series to compete in and letting us go out and do what we do."
The Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series also delivered the AMA Female Rider of the Year: KTM's Maria Forsberg, from Brier, Wash. Forsberg had a phenomenal year in the GNCC series, where she won 11 of 13 races in the Women's class.
AMA Veteran/Senior Rider of the Year was Tim Shephard. Shephard, of Sugar Grove, Ohio, was the AMA Senior Off-Road Vintage Grand Champion at the AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships.
Austin Lee, the Super Mini National Champion from the AMA Racing East Hare Scrambles Championship Series, was the AMA Racing Youth Rider of the Year. Lee, from Bedford, Ind., won three rounds of the 10-round series.
The AMA Sportsman of the Year was presented to Claudia Danielewicz of Oxford, Mich. Danielewicz has been instrumental in advancing racing opportunities for women in AMA-sanctioned off-road competition.
"Claudia Danielewicz has been an AMA member and racer for more than 10 years, and she has helped change the face of female competition in off-road racing forever," said AMA Director of Racing Joe Bromley. "Claudia has been instrumental in helping to get more female riders active in AMA Racing. She has helped promoters align class structures so that we have a girls youth class, as well as a ranking system to move them up through the women's classes. She is the 2011 AMA Sportsman of the Year."

Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green Ready for 2012 Season
Courtesy of Team Green
Irvine, Calif. - After celebrating its 30th Anniversary with a successful year on and off the track, Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green is looking to continue its rich tradition of developing talent while collecting championships across the nation. Though everyone who rides a Kawasaki product is a member of Team Green, every year a handful of talented young riders are selected to represent the brand at amateur motocross events nationally.
In 2012, there will be 25 riders flying Team Green graphics on their Kawasaki KX‚ models. With a wide variety of ages and classes covered, Team Green is represented in 11 classes ranging from 65cc (7-9) to the highest levels in the Vet classes. With four new riders on the team and 21 returning from last season, Team Green is poised to collect numerous championships in the upcoming race season.
"We have a strong team of riders set for the 2012 season" said Team Green Supervisor Ryan Holliday. "Everyone is healthy and ready to go so we‚ are looking forward to another great year of racing. Starting at Mini-O's, all of our riders will be on 2012 bikes, from KX‚ 65s to KX‚ 450Fs. It will be cool to showcase the new bikes at the first event of the season."
The 2012 Team Green roster is stacked deep with talent, boasting 25 riders who have accumulated a total of 45 Loretta Lynn's championships. Even for this talented group of individuals, with each new season comes a new set of challenges. As new riders join the Team Green ranks, current team members continue moving up in their respective classes as their racing careers progress.
Also interesting to see how the athletes transition between classes," continued Holliday. Our new riders this year include Carson Mumford, Sean Cantrell, and Garrett Marchbanks. They are all young riders who did very well last season and I thought would make great additions to the team. We continue to build Team Green from the ground up by creating long-lasting relationships with young riders and hope we can help carry them through the rest of their careers."
The Team Green amateur motocross season begins at the Mini Winter Olympics in Gainesville, Fla., and will culminate at the AMA Amateur National Championships held annually at Loretta Lynn's Dude Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn. Since the team has not raced an amateur national event since Loretta Lynn's last August, they are excited to get to Florida so they get the 2012 season under way.

Jimmy Weinert Training Facility Has a New Home
Courtesy of JWTF
Maysville, NC - Jimmy Weinert, owner of Jimmy Weinert Training Facility, is pleased to announce the new home of JWTF. Jim has moved his facility from the Hamer, SC location to Maysville, NC previously know as Crystal Coast MX Park. The new location is 2.5 hours northeast of the previous JWTF location, making it more accessible to riders from the northeast.
JWTF at Crystal Coast currently consists of 118 acres of land with existing cabins along with a bath house. The facility also has 26 water and electric RV hook-ups and plans to create more. Jim is working on building a new shop for bike storage and maintenance along with a new gym with a variety of fitness equipment.
The former Crystal Coast MX Park already possesses a national style motocross track in which race events used to be held. Jim has no plans to continue racing on this track at his new facility. His first goal is to get the training facility built up and functional and then make future plans. Although the facility will not currently hold racing events, if everything is in line and the situation seems right, Jim would consider the option. Jim is currently working on rebuilding the current motocross track as well as corner track with various obstacles and terrain.
Jim saw an opportunity to purchase the facility at Crystal Coast and couldn’t turn down the offer. Although JWTF’s previous location offered a lot of on-site amenities, this new facility will eliminate distractions, allowing the riders to focus more on the training aspect of the camp. Ryan Schafer and Jimmy Weinert teamed up when building JWTF at Hamer, SC and Jim appreciated everything Ryan offered in the beginning stages of the facility. “I was searching to have a place that I could call my own and we found it at Crystal Coast. It was a mutual agreement between Ryan and I. We were thankful to have the facility in Hamer South Carolina, but business is business and we needed something different.” says Jim.
JWTF plans to open the facility on January 1st 2012. It will offer open riding seven days a week from 10:00am – 5:00pm at $20.00 per day. Jim will also hold classes Monday through Friday at $495.00 per week or $1200.00 per month. Jim is excited for this new facility along with opportunities and potential that comes with it.
