Bel-Ray Racing-Weekend Racing Wrap-Up– March 12, 2012
Mother
Nature played a major role in Saturday night’s round of the 2012
Monster Energy Supercross series, which was a test of survival rather
than a competition. The
course, developed on the infield at the Daytona International Motor
Speedway, became a quagmire as a result of torrential rains the day
before and day of the event.
The
best finishing Bel-Ray racer of the night was Team Rockstar Energy
Racing Suzuki's Blake Wharton. A second place finish in the heat race
gave him a good spot
on the starting gate for the main event. He parlayed this gate position
into a top three start, holding that position for several laps and
eventually settling for a 5th place finish. This was Blake’s
fourth top five finish this season. Teammate
Hunter Hewitt had a night he’d rather forget. Forced to retire from the
heat race after getting stuck in the thick mud, he came back for the
last chance qualifier. Although he raced near the front, a 4th place finish caused him to miss making the
main event.
Dodge/Hart
& Huntington/Sycuan Casino/Bel-Ray Racing team member, Josh Hansen
also struggled in Daytona. After finishing out of qualifying position in
the heat race,
Hansen got a good initial start in the last chance qualifier before
colliding with another rider in the second corner. Their bikes were
stuck together long enough for the field to get away and Hansen was
forced out of the race. He failed to qualify for the
main event for the first time this season.
The series continues on Saturday night in Indianapolis, Indiana.
