The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team headed East for the seventh round of the AMA Supercross Series, held for the first time at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Saturday. Jason Anderson and Dean Wilson continued to battle the stacked group of 450 riders and finished fourth and 12th, respectively, while teammate Zach Osborne, making his first appearance of the season, showed speed all day and earned a podium finish in the 250SX East class.
Zach Osborne qualified fastest in the 250SX East class and continued to show speed the remainder of the night. He started sixth in his heat and made the pass for fifth in the whoops in the third lap. He inherited fourth after a rider went down, then made another quick pass for third on lap five. With one lap to go, he put his head down and focused on a strong finish. He made another pass to finish second and transfer to the main. Osborne started fifth in the main and made his way to fourth by the second lap. Showing enough speed to come through the pack for the win, he settled into a good rhythm and focused on making passes. He battled Hampshire for the third-place spot before making an impressive corner pass to lock down the podium position. He was on the move and nailed the rhythm section timing to gain even more speed as he made an inside pass on Jordon Smith for second before setting his sights on the leader. He tipped over in the sand after mistakenly hitting neutral, which put him back to third. He remounted and started chasing down the top-two riders again. Not giving up, he started putting pressure on Smith again with a lap and a half to go and navigated his Husqvarna FC 250 to a third-place finish.
“It was great to be the fastest in both practices,” said Osborne. “I got an okay start in the main and someone went down in front of me, and I had to check up. I caught up to the leaders and got into second, and got really close, then just washed my front end out in a sandy corner. I was able to remount and actually come all the way back and almost get back into second. I feel really good, and I’m really positive for this season. I really want to get that first win monkey off my back and just focus on the championship."
Jason Anderson pulled the holeshot in his heat aboard his Husqvarna FC 450 and started to pull away. He held strong to the finish to claim another heat race win and transfer directly to the main. Anderson started top-10 in the main and made his way to fifth by the end of the first lap. He made the pass for fourth around the halfway mark and rode his own race to the finish. He is currently fifth overall in 450 rider point standings.
“I’ve been pretty consistent lately,” said Anderson. “I pulled the holeshot and won my heat race, which was great. I was decently up front in the main and was able to come up to fourth. There wasn’t anyone behind me, so I rode by myself pretty much the whole time. The track was pretty hammered."
Dean Wilson, the third-fastest qualifier of the day, started third in his heat and began to battle. He stayed consistent and put on a great ride to finished third and earn a spot in the 450 main. Wilson got a mid-pack start in the main but went down after the start, putting him dead last. 17th by lap five, he focused on moving through the pack and made a great comeback by fighting all the way up to 12th where he finished. He is currently seventh overall in 450 rider point standings.
“It was a decent night,” said Wilson. “I wish I had a better main event. I didn’t get the best of starts, then I collided with another rider and went down after the first turn. By the time I got going, I was well behind last and just tried picking guys off. I got up to 12th, which isn’t amazing, but I qualified third which is a positive.”
The team will now make its way to the eighth round of the series, held next Saturday at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia.
