RCH Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing riders Justin Bogle and Broc Tickle powered through a challenging day to earn respectable finishes in Saturday’s Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Rockford Fosgate RedBud Motocross National, with Bogle moving up to fifth in the points at the halfway stage.

Bogle was a mainstay in the top-five for much of the opening moto for the premier 450 Class aboard his RM-Z450, but a fall near the halfway point left the rider of the # 19 Suzuki nursing a sore wrist for the rest of the day. Still, Bogle raced through the pain and came away with a respectable 7-9 finish, earning him an eighth-place overall showing.

The workman-like effort powered the 24-year-old Cushing, Oklahoma racer into a tie for fifth in points with half the season yet to be contested.

“This weekend at RedBud was not too great and not too bad,” commented Bogle. “The first moto was good. I was running a good pace in fourth and I felt like I had that position locked down but I ended up going down in a sweeper and landed funny on my wrist. I struggled with that for the rest of the moto and the rest of the day. Second moto, I got a good start but I made a handful of mistakes during the first lap and kind of shot myself in the foot. Once I settled in, I was able to make a couple of passes. Unfortunately, I was pretty far back to do anything with it. I ended up eighth overall. I’ll keep working and get back up there in the top five. I feel like I should be there every week so that’s the goal.”

Tickle battled through a shoulder injury he sustained in Saturday morning’s second practice session, but the Holly, Michigan rider stayed the course to finish 18th in the first moto and 17th in the second. While he slipped from fifth to seventh the championship, the rider of the # 20 Suzuki RM-Z450 knows the remaining six races is plenty of time to make up for lost ground.

“RedBud was tough,” said Tickle. “I crashed in the second practice and dislocated my shoulder. We popped it back in but it was pretty painful. I decided to race and try to just manage some points but that’s really how my day went. I crashed again in the first turn of the first moto so that didn’t help either. I’m going to try and get my shoulder better this week and hopefully be able to race at Southwick. If I can get through the next race, then we’ll have a week off so that should give me plenty of time for my shoulder to get better. That’s the focus right now. Obviously, I’m bummed about the situation and my results but I managed to do the best I could and not hurt myself any more than what I already did.”

The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship returns to the Wick 338 in Southwick next weekend for one of the most unique and gruelling contests on the summer schedule.

JGR AUTOTRADER SUZUKI:

After qualifying fifth fastest, Justin Barcia turned a favourable gate pick into a top-five start in the first moto. Barcia battled on the fast, choppy track to a seventh-place finish. In the second moto “Bam Bam” kicked the tyres and lit the fires, nabbing his second holeshot in consecutive weeks: He led the field for seven laps, but misfortune struck when his rear end stepped out. He quickly remounted to finish sixth on the moto and fifth overall on the day.

Weston Peick was looking to carry momentum into RedBud after finishing fourth at Muddy Creek. But Peick was delivered a blow at the start of the first moto when another rider crashed in front of him. He dug deep, coming all of the way up to 14th from 36th. He nailed a fourth place start in the second moto and finished in that position. Peick’s 14-4 moto scores netted him 10th overall.
