MILLVILLE, MN – July 23, 2017 –Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Alex Martin continued his streak of podium finishes in front of his hometown crowd at Spring Creek Motocross Park, earning second overall. After rain soaked the track all day on Friday, the circuit offered plenty of ruts and challenges, but Shane McElrath broke through for his first moto podium of the season. His 16-3 score placed him ninth overall. Sean Cantrell had two solid motos, placing 13th overall with a 14-14 moto score.

Martin got out to a near perfect start in the opening moto, running second after the first lap. He would keep the leader honest for the whole moto before finishing second in the moto. In Moto 2, Martin didn’t get the start he wanted in ninth, but worked his way back towards the front quickly and ended up fourth in the moto. His 2-4 landed Martin his third straight podium.
“It’s always great to come home and even better when I am able to get on the podium,” said Martin. “I would have loved to get the win, but it was a good day overall considering the conditions of the track and my start in the second moto. It would be great to keep the streak going next weekend.”

McElrath has been eager to prove his speed this season and while it’s been there the results have not shown what he’s capable of. He finally got the chance to show that off after a good start in Moto 2. McElrath wasn’t going to let a 16th place finish in Moto 1 keep him down and he battled the entire second moto to make sure he finished on the moto podium in third. His 16-3 pushed him inside the top 10 in ninth overall.
“The first moto could have gotten me down but I knew that it wasn’t over,” said McElrath. “I got the start I needed and had the drive to keep my position up near the front the whole moto. It was great to put myself up there with Alex (Martin). I’d love to finish the last four rounds like this (on the podium).”

Cantrell put together two solid motos during his first trip to the track in Minnesota. With the tough right handed start, Cantrell worked his way through the pack in Moto 1 after coming around Lap 1 outside 20th. He was able to battle through the pack and finish 14th. He got a better start in Moto 2, and was able to replicate his Moto 1 effort in 14th, giving him 13th overall.

Martin just got his hometown race, but now the team heads back to the west coast as they take over Washougal MX Park outside Portland, Oregon next weekend.
The riders wore GP Air Polka Dot Navy and Orange Racewear for both practice and the motos. The team also wore the SE4 Carbon Squadra Helmet. See all of the 2018 gear sets and the 2018 Moto Helmets online and at your local TLD retailer.

About KTM

“READY TO RACE” for KTM, these three words are far more than a simple slogan. They stand for the entire company philosophy of developing vehicles that can without any modifications comprehensively assert themselves in any race. Direct from the dealer onto the track and into the battle for victory. Designers, engineers and riders are bound by a clear common denominator: an unconditional passion for motorcycles. The whole KTM family is a living example of this worldwide. Countless offroad World and European championship titles plus brilliant victories in the world’s toughest races (International Six Days Enduro, Dakar Rally, Erzbergrodeo, and many more) all speak for themselves. And KTM Supermotos, Naked Bikes, Superbikes and the X-Bow all demonstrate what an “orange” lead means on asphalt.  Was this post helpful? Add yours to our service or subscribe to our feed above.
