Baggett Podiums, Bloss Top 5 at Thunder Valley MX | Team RMATV/MC-KTM-WPS Race Report

Payson, UT (June 4, 2018) – Round three of the 2018 Pro Motocross Championship series traveled to the high altitude of Lakewood, CO, and the Thunder Valley MX outdoor national this past weekend. It was a pair of top five rides, as Blake Baggett landed on the podium for the first time this season with a 3rd place finish, while Benny Bloss made it known he is a top-five contender as he rode to his best finish this season with a 5th place finish.

Blake Baggett came into Thunder Valley confident and ready as he has done well here in the past, winning this round last year. Looking to repeat last year’s success, he started the day strong with the 6th fastest time in qualifying. Moto 1 saw Blake line up twice as a red flag for a downed rider prompted a restart of the race ten minutes in. Not fazed, he launched out of the gate for the second time, and the FMF-supported rider led the field up the hill to grab the holeshot. After sliding back to third, Blake put on a late-race charge and attempted a pass for 2nd place, but it didn’t stick, and he finished the moto in 3rd place.

The second moto was almost a repeat of the first as Blake pinned it off the gate and led the field up the hill to the first turn. He ran as high as 2nd, only sliding back one spot to 3rd by mid-moto. Continuing to charge, Blake rode to another 3rd place finish, and his 3-3 score earned him 3rd overall, his first podium of the outdoor season.

“Today was good,” said Baggett. “My starts were on today and helped me race up at the front. It’s a step in the right direction and where I know I should be. We’ll keep plugging away and use this off weekend to regroup and come back strong at Mt. Morris.”

Benny Bloss made it known he is a top-five rider in this series as he posted his best motos of the season. A good start in moto 1 placed Benny inside the top ten early. From there, a steady progression through the field moved him just outside the top five to finish in 6th place. Another good start in moto 2 gave Benny good track position inside the top ten. He showed his speed as the Bubba Burger-supported rider charged inside the top five to finish 5th. Along with his first moto finish, it earned him 5th overall on the day, his personal best of the season.

“My best race of the year,” said Bloss. “I had fun out there on the track and being up there and battling in the top five. We are working hard, and things are getting better on my end. I’m looking forward to another top five at Mt. Morris in a few weeks.”

Due to his heavy crash last weekend at Glen Helen, Dakota Alix did not line up his KTM 250 SX-F at Thunder Valley MX, instead taking time to heal and come back strong in two weeks at Mt. Morris.

Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS now takes a week off before heading to Mt. Morris, PA, for round four of the Pro Motocross Nationals at High Point MX on June 16.
