Team Suzuki City 2010

Courtesy of Suzuki City
Biloxi, MS – Team Suzuki City is pleased to announce their 2010 race team line up. The 2010 team will include Steven Clarke and Matt Lemoine, who will contest the East Coast Supercross Lites Championship Series as well as the AMA Outdoor Lites Championship Series. Sherri Cruse will compete in the Women’s Motocross Championships.
This is Team Suzuki City’s third year in existence and with each year the team has gained momentum and improved their race results. In 2009, Team Suzuki City riders placed solidly inside the top ten of the AMA East Coast Lites Championship Series.

Steven Clarke is returning the Team Suzuki City in 2010 and has high expectations for himself. Clarke said, “Everything is coming along great. I’m healthy and looking forward to Indy. If I ride to my potential, I know I can easily come away top 5 in points."

Matt Lemoine, new to Team Suzuki City is anticipating an awesome 2010 race season. "I'm 100% happy, the team is great. The guys have done everything to make the bike exactly what I want. I'm looking forward to Indy so we can get to racing," said an excited Lemoine.

Sherri Cruse finished third overall in the 2009 Women’s Motocross Championship is also new to Team Suzuki City this year. Full of enthusiasm, Sherri said, "I am really excited about being part of Team Suzuki City. I think with their bike and race knowledge we are going to have a great season. I especially like working with creative and positive people and am happy to be representing women's pro motocross on the team"

Team owner, Michael Nasakaitis is looking forward to the 2010 race season, “Everything is going great with the team, the guys are riding well and are ready for Indy. The whole team has worked really hard to prepare for this season, and with Matt, Steven and Sherri on board, I know this is going to be a terrific year”.

Suzuki City is also very excited to announce their partnership with Nitro Circus for the 2010 race season. This is an exciting venture for both Team Suzuki City and Nitro Circus. Nitro Circus has become one of the most recognized brands in the action sports world. Travis Pastrana and his crew’s action adventures have become as much mainstream entertainment as Supercross racing.

Andy Bell, Nitro Circus "Partnering with the Team Suzuki City SX team is an exciting move for Nitro Circus as the entire Nitro crew are huge SX fans. The partnership made even more sense considering team riders Matt Lemoine and Sherri Cruse are both close friends of the Nitro Circus family, having appeared on multiple episodes of the show throwing down some pretty big stunts of their own."

Nasakatis adds, “We are excited to be working with Nitro Circus, the level of excitement they bring to everything they do is unbelievable”.

Look for Team Suzuki City riders Cllarke, Lemoine and Cruse to bring home great results in 2010.

Tonight on DMXS Radio

Courtesy of DMXS Radio
Fresh off the Red Bull: New Year - No Limits record-setting rally car jump of 269 feet, Travis Pastrana once again set the bar higher for anyone crazy enough to follow and added to the impressive ongoing living legend’s list of accomplishments. We will catch up with the infamous global star tonight to see what’s next on his to-do list and get his take on the racing so far this season and see if he plans to line up on the gate anytime soon.

The stars did not align for Timmy Ferry this year as nagging injuries and a down economy conspired to keep the popular Floridian off the gate at Anaheim 1 for the first time since 1983. Well, maybe not that long, but he was surely missed either way. His name has been bantered about as a replacement rider already this season so we will hear directly from Red Dog to separate fact from speculation. Let’s hope it works out because we all want to see him back racing sooner than later.

Mind of the Demon: The Larry Linkogle Story is a haunting and cautionary tale about one of the sport’s most independent and rebellious spirits ever to throw a leg over a dirt bike. This human story about one man’s struggle with drug addiction will shed light on the never-publicly-told story of the rise and fall of Larry Linkogle through interviews of those that know him best. This award-winning and motivational story is written, directed, and produced by FMX industry veteran Adam Barker, and narrated by Lemmy Kilmeister of Motorhead. The film will be screened at Slamdance January 23 & 26, and X Dance: Action Sports Film Festival on January, 24. Check out www.slamdance.com and www.x-dance.com for more information. We are stoked to welcome Larry and Adam on the show tonight.

We had to get Racer X’s Davey Coombs on the show tonight to help us break down and digest the incredible events that transpired in Phoenix last weekend. I don’t know if anyone, short of James Cameron, that could have scripted a wilder start to the supercross season. We will go over both classes tonight with DC and get the latest on the fallout and what it means for the rest of the season.

Don’t forget to jump in the chat room during the show to post your own questions to the guests, bench race, and take a shot at winning some cool swag from Vurb, SHIFT, Ogio, Racer X and more.

Pastrana Lends A Hand

Courtesy of Motor Sports Newswire

December 17, 2009 - (Motor Sports Newswire) - Motocross legend Brad Lackey was notified this week that MX Champ, ESPN X-Games Gold Medalist, daredevil and rally car driver Travis Pastrana is on board and contributing $5,000 towards Lackey's on-going efforts to get former MX hero Danny "Magoo" Chandler a new special needs van.
Travis Pastrana"Me and others have made great careers out of doing incredible things... no, IMPOSSIBLE things on motorcycles! However it was Magoo who showed everybody way back when what was possible if you just decided to go for it, and the fans loved him for it," explains Pastrana. "I'm honored to help because what Danny is doing now for motorcycle safety is super important. I want to encourage others who, like Bob Hannah said, 'have the ability to give towards this,' to take up the Challenge to get Magoo his new van," Pastrana added.
Pastrana is the lucky 13th name to be added to the list of 20 as part of Bob "Hurricane" Hannah's Challenge that has been promoted in weekly issues of Cycle News. Pastrana joins Hannah, Terry Knott, Bob Fox, Bruce Lockwood, Glen Helen Raceway Park, Mark Barnett, Jimmy Weinert, PDM TV, Jason Lawrence, Tom Reese/Springfield Armory and Hi-Torque Publications with his contribution towards the Challenge. This leaves seven (7) spots left to fill by those individuals or companies who have the ability and want to help meet Hannah's challenge and make Brad Lackey's van project for Chandler happen before the end of the year.
"Having another current motorcycle star of Travis Pastrana's caliber help us, will go a long way to completing this project for Magoo," said Brad Lackey, America's First Motocross World Champion. "If there is a guy today that recognizes the trail Danny blazed for all of the current riders, that guy is Travis Pastrana."
"It's awesome that Travis is stepping up to meet the challenge," added 7-Time National Motocross and Supercross Champion Bob "Hurricane" Hannah. "Some of us hung it out every time we raced, and Pastrana has really hung it out during his career. However, Magoo was the first and its great that Travis understands this," Hannah concluded.
All the donations for this challenge campaign are tax deductible with 501(c)(3) status.

Thor/Parts Unlimited Has Solid Weekend at X Games 15

X Games logoImage via Wikipedia

The world's largest convergence of action sports athletes known as the ESPN X Games invaded Los Angeles this past weekend for the event's 15th year of competition. While skateboarders, bmx riders and rally drivers from around the globe battled it out for medals in some of the most unique and challenging events imaginable, a significant focus was given to the moto community as freestyle, motocross and supermoto riders faced off for their chance at gold.

Thor and Parts Unlimited was well represented at the X Games with competitors in nearly every one of the disciplines: Step Up, Best Trick, Supermoto, Super X and Freestyle. In the end, the riders representing the leader in motocross apparel captured four medals with one gold, two silvers and one bronze.

All the action kicked-off on Thursday evening from the Staples Center. The focus of the night centered around the newest element of moto competition with Step Up. What is essentially a high jump competition on a motorcycle, Thor/Parts Unlimited riders Jeremy McGrath and Matt Buyten, both former winners of the event, took their shot at the gold. As the bar was continually raised, McGrath and Buyten stayed in the thick of the battle alongside Ricky Carmichael and Ronnie Renner. Seven-time supercross champion McGrath was the first to drop out of the final four at a stellar 32 feet. Buyten came close but just missed out at 33 feet, settling for the bronze. McGrath just missed out on the podium in fourth while Carmichael and Renner were named co-gold medalists.

As the festivities returned to Staples Center on Friday evening, all eyes were on the king of freestyle progression, Travis Pastrana. Known as one of the most highly-anticipated events of the entire X Games, Best Trick annually provides some of the most logic-defying feats ever conceived on a motorcycle. After accomplishing arguably the most memorable trick in history with the double backflip in 2006, Pastrana made his anticipated return to Best Trick with yet another mind-boggling trick in tow. After being convinced that a backflip-rotation combination was possible by BMX legend and rally teammate Dave Mirra, Pastrana spent his two-year hiatus honing the trick in a foam pit. However, in preparation for the event and his first attempt to dirt, Pastrana declared that he "lost" the trick. Ever the determined competitor, he rolled down the ramp Friday night confident he could stick what became known as a 720 corkscrew, or what they call a rodeo in BMX. Upon launching off the takeoff ramp, Pastrana appeared to be on target but began to flatten out, eventually dropping hard to the downside of the landing ramp.

"We are already flipping and spinning so the next step is combining the two," explained Pastrana. "The last six months I have put a huge focus on this. However, in the last 20 or 30 that I've tried to do I've just lost the trick. I over-rotated the flip. I had so much flip that when it came time to spin I had to stop because of the momentum and landed on my side."

Although he came up short in landing the trick, Travis Pastrana continued the progression of the sport by pushing the envelope with a flip, spin variation. (Courtesy VitalMX.com)

After precautionary medical attention, the crowd favorite got to his feet and saluted everyone in attendance. After careful deliberation, he chose to forego his second attempt. Despite missing out on landing the trick, Pastrana still captured fourth thanks to its high degree of difficulty. Two-time gold medalist Kyle Loza made history with his third straight win. Despite missing out on some hardware for his two wheel efforts, Pastrana ended the weekend on a positive note by taking the silver medal in the Rally Car Racing final.

Saturday brought the busiest day of moto action to X Games with Supermoto, Super X and Freestyle all taking place at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The day began with the highly-competitive and highly-technical Supermoto final. 2007 Gold Medalist Mark Burkhart came into the race as one of the favorites and was hoping to bounce back from a heartbreaking 2008 performance. With an international field of talented competitors, Burkhart lineup up against 19 other riders for a 20-lap battle. As the race got underway, Burkhart found himself needing to do some work to make it to the front. He began to make his way through the top five, eventually moving into second and on the heels of Italian leader Ivan Lazzarini, a European supermoto racer. Burkhart was faster than Lazzarini but found difficulty in trying to make the pass. As the duo headed out of the stadium on the final laps, Burkhart made his move and actually took over the top spot by about a wheel, but Lazzarini refused to back off and out-jumped Burkhart heading to the pavement to take away the preferred line. From there Burkhart looked to capitalize on a mistake but had to settle for second.

When he took the gold medal in 2008 for Super X, Josh Hansen shocked the motocross world with a dominating performance. After a rough supercross season in 2009, Hansen was given a one-race deal with the legendary Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team for the X Games. It was a dream opportunity for Hansen and he was determined to take advantage of it. In a star-studded field that included world class riders like Kevin Windham, Josh Grant, Justin Brayton and fellow Thor/Parts Unlimited rider McGrath, Hansen put on one of the most impressive displays in recent memory. As the field of 12 riders blasted out of the gates, Hansen found himself in the top five while McGrath nearly grabbed the holeshot and asserted himself into second place early on. With 20 laps slated for the final, Hansen put his head down and logged consistent lap times which began working in his favor. He quickly moved into third and set his sights on the lead. McGrath on the other hand took a few laps to get his rhythm on the slick and technical layout and lost some ground but settled in and rode a solid second half of the race. Hansen continued his charge, passing Matt Boni for second and eventually catching Windham for the lead. After coming up short on his first attempt to pass, Hansen made his second effort stick just past halfway and never looked back, winning by over eight seconds for his second-straight gold medal. McGrath brought home seventh.

"This is really just a dream come true," boasted Hansen. "Mitch (Payton) gave me this opportunity and I can't thank him enough. The track was really slick out there and I didn't get a great start so I just knew I had to put together 20 solid laps and that's what I did. This whole deal is awesome. I get to wear Thor gear and the stuff fits really well and is really comfortable out on the track. I can't thank Mitch enough for this."

Hansen was at the top of his game put forth an impressive performance for gold. (Courtesy VitalMX.com)

"X Games is unique in a way that really helps sponsors like Thor get some major exposure," added McGrath. 'That is part of what brings me back each year. I still love racing as much as ever but I don't come out here to win. It's really just about getting out there and having some fun and I did that so I'm happy. My goal isn't to really compete with (the full time riders). I just try to get a good start, which I did and go from there. Unfortunately, I screwed that up (laughs). But I'm leaving healthy and that's always good."

The action-packed Saturday concluded that evening with the Freestyle competition. Jeremy "Twitch" Stenberg held the Thor flag high in search of his first gold medal in the event. Virtually a wide open competition for 2009, X Games organizers presented a new format in the form of a Jam Session. Riders take their best two scores out of three runs throughout a timed session and in the end, the highest combined score wins. Thanks to his endurance and ability to string together a variety of tricks in a short burst, Twitch felt confident about his chances. He started off strong with a 43 to open the final, but found some trouble in run two for a score of 38. In a night full of small bobbles from each of the four finalists, Stenberg was the most consistent rider. His pair of 43's dropped his low score of 38 but his 86 overall left him just one point shy of the gold medal behind Blake Williams. Williams' opening run of 44 proved to be the difference maker as he and Twitch tied in their final run.

"My night overall was really good," said Stenberg. "I was just pumped to make it through to the very last round. With the new Jam format you don't really have much time to think. (The judges) want to see a run every single time you're out on the course. There was definitely a lot of thinking, a lot of planning and a lot of endurance. You needed to be consistent so I was pumped to come out of there with a second. In my second run when I got my low score, I think if I would have landed those couple tricks that would have made the difference."

A full house of fans, athletes and celebrities gathered at the Avalon Hollywood to pay tribute (and to poke a little fun), at all that Pastrana has contributed to the world of action sports at Red Bull Toasted. The event was a surprise to Pastrana until he arrived at the venue in a restored English double-decker bus, but the presenters were more than ready to give Travis a ribbing (with love, of course).

Travis took his licks in good spirits, saying “It was epic to have so many of my friends and family come out tonight. When Red Bull does something, they do it huge. It was a roast and it was funny, but there was a lot of respect. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. Going into X Games, all I’ve been thinking about over and over is Best Trick, the Rodeo 720, if you will, and tonight distracted me in a really good way.”

Red Bull Toasted featured special appearances by several iconic friends and family members of Pastrana. Video montages showcased his life and career – his highlights and even his goofier moments. Roasting and toasting Travis included: Arj Barker (Flight of the Conchords), Tony Hawk (skateboard legend), Sal Masakela (Host of E! Daily 10), Brian Vickers (Red Bull Racing NASCAR driver), Greg Giraldo (comedian and Comedy Central roaster), Dan Levy (comedian), Ryan Sheckler (skateboarder and star MTV’s Life of Ryan), the cast members from MTV's Nitro Circus, including Andy Bell, Jeremy Rawle, Gregg Godfrey and Jolene Van Vugt, Kelley James (singer), Debbie Pastrana (Travis’ mother), Robert Pastrana, (Travis’ father) and Carey Hart (motocross star).

Spotted at the event were Audrina Patridge and Brody Jenner from MTV’s The Hills, Verne Troyer, Ryan Cabrera and Steve-O.

Fellow athletes in attendance included Robbie Maddison, Ronnie Renner, Mat Rebeaud, Ashley Fiolek, Tarah Gieger, Levi Sherwood, Lance Coury, Ian Walsh, Sandro Dias, Daniel Dhers, Kevin Robinson, Parks Bonifey, Corey Bohan and Corey Martinez, in addition to Vickers and Sheckler.

Highlights of the night included a fierce thrashing of every celebrity in the room by comedians Dan Levy and Greg Giraldo, most of which cannot be repeated without a “bleep.” Kid Rock (via video) recounted a New Year’s Eve party which ended with Travis BASE jumping from his suite in the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas, a bewigged Troyer made a surprise appearance on-stage and almost every roaster made a point to describe Travis’ amazing motocross ability…and complete lack of skills with women.

The guests in attendance were also the first to hear “what’s next” in Travis’ career. He was passed the torch – or in this case, the steering wheel – and will be the star of the 2009 Red Bull: New Year. No Limits. New Year’s Eve event, live on ESPN. Look for more details on how Travis will take over New Year’s Eve in Los Angeles in the coming months.
