Lakewood, CO - The AMA MX National Series rolled into the beautiful state of Colorado to attend round five at Thunder Valley MX Park. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha continues to progress, fielding #20 Broc Tickle, #48 Max Anstie, #577 Martin Davalos and #2 Jessica Patterson. For the first time in two years this race was held without racing under the lights, combined with altitude and heat the race once again brought new elements and possibilities. In timed qualifying Davalos and Tickle established themselves as factors by setting the 2nd and 5th best times leading into the event.

The big highlight came out of Tickle in moto one, coming out of the first turn in 11th; he then began to apply some pressure to the competitors ahead on lap two. Riding at his best and moving into 8th, Tickle continued to hold the pace of the leaders through the halfway mark which enabled him to capitalize on other competitor’s mistakes. At this point he showed strength by finding his lines and breaking away with the top five. With three laps remaining, Tickle had 4th place in his sights, but he couldn’t capitalize as he still marched on to a 5th place finish. Also in moto one, the rest of the Star squad all came out pretty well with Davalos riding strong in 8th, and Anstie all but had 10th sewn up before a last lap mistake that shifted him back to 12th.

In moto two, it was Davalos and Tickle who acquired decent starts and continued on riding outstandingly through the race. Early on Davalos paced himself in 11th, until lap three when he put on a sprint and took over 7th. Meanwhile, Tickle raced up to the back of his teammate by the mid way point, and applied heavy pressure. After making the move on Davalos, Tickle went after fifth place. Once Tickle bridged the gap, he made several attempts to pass for fifth, unsuccessful and being held up by a lapper caused him to lose some steam and have a need for regrouping. Fortunately, in the closing stages of the moto, Tickle and Davalos kept it together, allowing them to net finishes in 6th and 8th. Also riding consistently, Anstie fell down early on, only to gather himself late in the race and go on to notch 19th.

Results:
Moto 1 Moto 2 = Overall Finish
Broc Tickle 5th 6th = 6th
Martin Davalos 8th 8th = 7th
Max Anstie 12th 19th = 16th

The WMA series returned to action over the weekend, with Jessica Patterson picking up just where she left off. In moto one Patterson took the lead on the first lap and put her head down, having the confidence and team behind her took Jessica to a 23 second lead and eventual win. Moto two went off under a bad rain storm adding to the difficulty, but for Patterson it wasn’t an issue. Grabbing the holeshot, she rode off to yet another win to keep the undefeated season intact. This was a big win for JP$ because in the past she hasn’t had the best of finishes at this race.
