Mt. Morris, PA – Team Dragon Racing Fuels – 1-866-KTM-PART headed into the High Point MX National for the 3rd round of the 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship for their first race of the series with the newly acquired #175 Phil Nicoletti.
The day started off with good weather conditions and it looked to be promising for Nicoletti. But as fate would have it, the weather turned as the 250 riders lined up for Moto 1. When the gate dropped, Nicoletti got a mid pack start and with multiple lines, it was anybody’s guess as to which was going be better in the rain. As the race went on, Nicoletti experienced goggle problems as they packed on the mud and had to pull off for a quick change. He dropped back to 30th before the change and quickly fought back with fresh eyes to lead him back towards the front. The rain continued to fall yet Nicoletti clawed his way to an 18th place finish in Moto 1.
As the day went on, the rain subsided and the track began to shed its muddy conditions. The gate dropped for Moto 2 and Nicoletti got a great start off the gate and came out with the lead pack. He found his groove and picked solid lines throughout the moto. As the battles went on, Nicoletti found himself in the 13th spot and was looking to have his best finish of the series. When the two lap board came out, the rain began to fall again and Nicoletti was all alone with a 5 second lead on his closest contender. As with many of the riders, they are still recovering from the brutal heat of the Texas race and it took its toll on his endurance. He made a couple of mistakes that allowed Alex Martin to quickly catch up and fight for the 13th spot. The track conditions quickly changed with the rain and Nicoletti went down. He gave up a few positions to end up 20th in Moto 2. High Point saw some new faces on the podium as it threw a few curve balls to make it interesting. Overall, it was a great weekend and the #175 of Nicoletti ended up 21st overall. He is currently 18th in the overall season point standings and is looking to fight his way up the board.
