Lakewood Race Report...Fly Racing

AMA Outdoor Motocross Series, Round 5 – Lakewood, Colorado

The AMA Lucas Oil Motocross made stop number five this past weekend at Thunder Valley MX in Lakewood, Colorado for another great round of racing. The day started out strong with Andrew Short setting the second fastest qualifying time in the 450 practice. In the 250 class, it was Martin Davalos also setting the second fastest time during practice, giving both Fly riders great gate picks to start the motos.

450 Class Highlights

Fly riders Andrew Short, Weston Peick, Ben Evans, Kyle Regal, Josh Clark, and Terren O’Dell all qualified for Motos via timed practice, with Short setting the second fastest time. In Moto one, it was Honda Red Bull Racing’s Andrew Short with the holeshot and early lead. Short began to pull a slight lead until a lap five crash moved him outside the top ten, forcing him to charge his way back to an 8th place finish. Fellow Fly rider Kyle Regal was close behind, finishing 9th. Rounding out the top twenty for Fly racing was Weston Peick in 20th.

In Moto two it was once again Andrew Short with another holeshot setting him up for another great finish with a 3rd place, which was good enough for fifth overall on the day. Merge Racing/American Honda backed rider Kyle Regal also had a good second Moto finishing 6th, with Team Rock River Powersports rider Weston Peick riding to a 16th place finish.

Lites Class Highlights
In the Lites class it was Fly riders Max Anstie, Broc Tickle, Martin Davalos, Alex Martin, Kyle Gills, along with privateers Hunter Clements, Preston Mull, Michael Akaydin, Johnny Moore, Bobby Fitch and Donald Vawser, all making it out of timed qualifying to put themselves into motos for the day.

In Moto one it was DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing rider Broc Tickle Leading the way finishing 5th followed by fellow DNA rider Martin Davalos in 8th. Fellow Fly rider Alex Martin finished just outside the top ten with an 11th followed by Max Anstie in 12th.

In Moto two it was more of the same and leading the way was Star Racing Yamaha/DNA Shred Stix backed riders Broc Tickle (finishing 6th) and Martin Davalos in 8th, followed closely by Alex Martin and Max Anstie finishing 16th and 19th.
