Suzuki Factory Racing’s Blake Baggett finished 12th aboard his Suzuki
RM-Z450 in front of 59,311 fans at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford,
New Jersey at the weekend.
And in the penultimate round of the
American 2016 Monster Energy AMA/ FIM World Supercross Championship,
Baggett’s race result moved him up a position in the series standings to
17th.
Baggett began the day at MetLife by finishing 16th in
timed qualifying. He then made the Main by way of a third in his semi.
Under the spotlight of the Main Event, Baggett ran in 14th-place for the
first five laps before working his way up to 13th on lap six of the
20-lap final. Then, with six laps to go, Baggett made his way past
another rider to move into 12th and that’s where he finished the night.
“It
was not the greatest day we’ve had by any means, but we improved on
quite a few things” Baggett said. “I didn’t qualify great, but was able
to get in through the semi, so I made it to the Main, which was better
luck than I had last weekend. In the Main Event I had an outside
gate-pick and not a great start, but I felt like I rode pretty good. I
was consistent with my lap-times considering the conditions and being in
traffic most of the way.
“I worked my way forward a little bit,
but it was a pretty tough track to pass-on tonight. When you were in
that the group kind of bunched up, it was a lot of follow-the-leader.
I’m looking forward to the final round next weekend in Las Vegas and
then we’ll be getting ready for the Outdoor season.”
The 2016
Supercross season comes to a close next Saturday, May 7th, with the
Monster Energy Supercross Finale from Las Vegas' Sam Boyd Stadium.
Action gets underway at 9:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. PT.
