ROME, Ga. (May 26, 2016) – The
second round of the 2016 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is set to
kick off this Saturday, May 28 in San Bernardino, California for the FMF
Glen Helen National. The wildly popular Southern California circuit is
notorious for being known as one of the most physically demanding tracks
in the world, boasting massive hills that become brutally challenging
throughout the afternoon. Pirelli’s all-new MX32™PRO tire has been
developed to perform under the conditions that riders will face this
weekend with a loose top soil that features a hard-slippery base
underneath.
Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha’s Justin Barcia
rode strong this past weekend at the season opening GoPro Hangtown
Classic. The No.51 displayed flashes of brilliance throughout the
afternoon and will be looking to work his way back onto the podium at a
track he has shared success with in the past. The multi-time Pro
Motocross winner will be gunning for his first win of the 2016 season
when the gate drops on Saturday.
Glen Helen is the hometown race for Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha rider Weston Peick,
who suffered a big crash during the first moto this past weekend.
Despite being unable to finish the opening moto due to damage suffered
in the crash, he would bounce back to score valuable points in the
second moto. After serving as a fill-in rider during the Monster Energy
Supercross season, JGRMX teammate Phil Nicoletti came into the season under the radar, but demonstrated that he will be a threat throughout the season.
The BTO Sports/WPS/KTM team is looking ahead and
focused on building momentum as the championship heats up. Competing in
his final season as a professional racer, Andrew Short
is making the most out of each stop on the schedule. The veteran is
fresh off of his first race in several months and is expected to improve
as he races his way back into form.
Fellow BTO Sports teammate Benny Bloss
has shown he belongs near the front of the 450MX Class with a strong
performance in his first-ever outdoor national with his new team. Bloss
is a quick learner, an attribute that will serve him well in his rookie
season as he visits tracks for the first time in his career. A former
450MX Class winner in the Pro Motocross Championship, Justin Brayton is seeking redemption after misfortune hindered his performance in Hangtown.
In the 250MX Class, Pirelli welcomes back MAD Racing/Dirt Candy Graphics/Suzuki’s Matt Bisceglia
who missed the opening round in Hangtown after becoming extremely ill
in the days leading up to the race. Motorcycle Superstore Suzuki’s Kyle Cunningham is also returning to action after an unfortunate practice incident left him watching from the sidelines last weekend.
The opening races from the FMF Glen Helen
National kick off on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 1 p.m. PT and can be
viewed on MAV TV, while second motos can be viewed on NBC Sports
beginning at 3 p.m. PT. Check local listings for channel information.
