MotoConcepts Racing: St. Louis SX Report
SPOKANE,
WA (March 4, 2013) - MotoConcepts Racing by Smartop riders Gavin Faith
(#67 MCR250) and Mike Alessi (#800 MCR450) continued their string of
impressive rides this past weekend at the St. Louis Supercross.
Gavin
Faith’s race strategy took an unexpected turn when he went down in his
heat race and, despite coming up just short on a valiant pass attempt,
was unable to automatically qualify for the Main. With the pressure of
the LCQ firmly on his shoulders, Gavin put in a strong ride to finish in
the second spot and, though later than planned, transferred into the
Main event.
With
the last pick on the gate, Faith made a smart move cutting inside on
the first turn and was mid-pack after the first lap. As one of the top
riders in the class, Gavin worked his way forward and was inside the top
6 at the half-way point. Unfortunately, Gavin would hit the deck again
in St. Louis and relinquish a possible podium finish. He remounted and
would end the night in the 11th position overall.
In
the first 450 Heat race, MCR rider Mike Alessi raced to an uneventful
yet solid ride to transfer directly to the Main. Alessi completed the
first lap in the 5th position and remained there for the 8-lap race to
finish in the 5th spot.
When
the gate dropped for the 450 Main it was a scene most fans have seen
many times before; Alessi rocketing out to the front with another
patented Nuclear Cowboyz® Holeshot award. Alessi was in a great spot
and laying down fast laps until the red flag stopped the race in order
for the medical team to assist a fallen rider.
For
the first-time in the veterans career, Mike Alessi lined up in the
staggered start formation for the restart. While a holeshot in the
staggered start would be impossible, Alessi managed to move his way past
a few riders and get up front with the leaders. On lap 14, Factory
Honda’s Trey Canard moved up a position and was behind Mike Alessi. A
great race ensued between to the two riders and for 5 laps Alessi held
off the charge of the Anaheim 1 runner up to finish a solid 7th
overall.
With
strong rides by both riders the past few weeks, the Supercross series
moves to Daytona Beach, Florida with its unique, outdoor-style, SX
layout and MotoConcepts Racing is confident its best results of the
season are within reach.
