KENNESAW, GA. (July 18, 2016) – Team MicroBilt/PRBC Suzuki’s Ronnie
Stewart overcame a hard practice crash to qualify for his third Lucas Oil Pro
Motocross National in a row, and fifth this season, Saturday at Spring Creek MX
Park in Millville, Minnesota. Stewart’s 38-24 earned him a 33rd overall. His
moto two finish was the second best of the 2016 season.
The very fact that
Stewart was able to race at Millville was a minor miracle. In the first session
of the day Stewart suffered a hard crash when he landed on a rider who’d
crashed after a jump.
“It was the result
of no yellow or red cross flags being displayed,” Stewart explained of the
accident. “It was very frustrating. I damaged my bike and hit my head harder
than I would have preferred. You can’t control those things and luckily we were
both OK.”
Stewart and the team
were able to rally and qualify safely into the national. He was 30th out of 81
riders in qualifying. “That was awesome to be able to preserve a little energy
and having more time to prepare for the motos,” Stewart said.
The roughness of the
Spring Creek MX Park by the time the gate dropped for first 450 moto caught
Stewart out a bit and he decided to pull off and focus his energies on the
second moto. The strategy paid off to a degree, since he was able to battle
forward and put his MicroBilt/PRBC Suzuki RM-Z450 up to 24th place in moto two
in spite of a bad gate pick and sub-par start.
“I don’t know if dropping
out of the first moto was the right decision, but it’s what I decided was best
at the time,” Stewart explains. “I was able to hang in there in the second
moto. I’m going to continue to keep trying harder and I’m thankful for everyone
sticking behind me. My whole team is really working at it and I wish I could
show them a little better results. At least I’m healthy and am able to try to
keep improving. We’re heading out west and hopefully I can redeem myself and do
a little better.”
Stewart and Team
MicroBilt/PRBC Suzuki travel west as the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship
continues next weekend for round nine of the 2016 season in Washougal,
Washington. The Peterson CAT Washougal National will host the series on
Saturday, July 23. Live coverage begins at 1:00 pm Eastern on
www.promotocross.com. The motos can also be viewed on MAVTV and NBCSN.
