KENNESAW, GA. (July 26, 2016) – Ronnie Stewart rallied on his Team
MicroBilt/PRBC Suzuki RM-Z450 to finish 25th in the second moto in the Lucas
Oil Pro Motocross Championship round on Saturday in Washougal, Washington.
Unfortunately for Stewart, a minor mechanical issue in the first moto resulted
in a 33rd-place overall finish for the day. Stewart reported learning a lot in
the second moto and looks forward to putting that knowledge to good use in the
final three rounds of the season in August.
Stewart began the
Washougal National weekend flying the MicroBilt/PRBC Suzuki colors at an
autograph signing on Friday evening at Pro Caliber Vancouver.
“There was a really
strong turnout and that was nice to see,” Stewart said of the autograph
session. “It was great to see the excitement of the fans getting to meet the
riders who they were going to watch race the next day. For most of them they
only get to one race a year, so they were really amped and that was awesome to
experience.”
On race day Stewart
qualified directly into the main, 35th out of 60 riders, with a time of
2:17.570 on his MicroBilt/PRBC Suzuki RM-Z450.
In the first moto
Stewart closed in on a big group of riders and was just about to make his move
when the chain derailed from his bike ending his moto.
“I was just starting
figure out my lines and saw a whole freight train of people in front of me,”
Stewart explained. “I knew it was time to move before it got too spread out. I
was pushing pretty hard when my chain derailed. Luckily the guys at Yoshimura
Suzuki helped me identify what could have been the issue and we were good for
the second moto.”
Stewart and the team
quickly regrouped for moto 2.
“Kudos to my
mechanic Zach,” Stewart said. “He had to do a lot of work to get the bike ready
for the second moto.”
Despite the last
gate pick and a poor start, Stewart used the deft handling of his Suzuki
RM-Z450 to make his way past a slew of riders to end the moto in 25th.
“With the gate pick
and the start it was difficult for me to get up there to ride with the faster
guys to help push me along,” Stewart explained. “I tried my best to find some
better lines and to learn and just get better all around. That’s what I did in
the moto, so there are positives there.”
Now Stewart looks
forward to two weeks off of the circuit to prepare for the final three races.
