Ronnie Stewart continued to improve Saturday night aboard the MicroBilt/PRBC Yoshimura Suzuki RM-Z450 in round two of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series in San Diego. It was the fourth annual Military Appreciation Race in front of a crowd of 40,682 fans inside Petco Park and a live television audience on Fox Sports 1. Stewart raced three qualifying events and drew ever closer to his immediate goal of making a Supercross main.
In qualifying, Stewart passed the finish line with a best lap of 59.346 seconds on his powerful No. 606 Yoshimura-powered Suzuki RM-Z450. That put him 31st, easily into the night show and one position better than his qualifying position last week in Anaheim. Fogged goggles hampered Stewart in his heat race.
“My goggles fogged up when I was on the line,” Stewart explained. “It stayed like that the whole first lap. It was kind of scary. I went more or less on feel than actually seeing exactly what was going on in front of me. It was one of those things… the 30-second board was up, and I really didn’t have that much time. I figured they would clear just as soon as I took off and wasn’t worried about it too much, but when I got going, they weren’t clearing. It made things interesting.”

Stewart finished 15th in 450 class heat two. He then took 13th in the second semi. He rounded out the evening with a ninth in the Last Chance Qualifier and wasn’t too far off the leaders.
“We had a successful weekend hosting our fans, a military family who were the lucky winners of a contest we held on social media and a pit full of 20 VIPs. We were happy to provide them a unique experience – everyone on the team did an excellent job,” Stewart continued. “We’re supposed to have sunshine this week, so that will give me a chance to get some much-needed seat time. We’re going to be doing some suspension testing with Rob [Henricksen] at RG3, and that should benefit me and help put us where we need to be. I had some good starts this weekend, and I’m looking forward to capitalizing on that very soon.”
The series now moves to round 3 this Saturday, Jan. 21, back to Angel Stadium for Anaheim II. Stewart and Team MicroBilt/PRBC Yoshimura Suzuki will be ready for action. The event will be televised live on Fox Sports 1.
