AMSOIL Arenacross Rolls into Greensboro Coliseum This Weekend

ELLENTON, Fla. (January 27, 2016) – The first three weeks of the 2016 AMSOIL Arenacross season have been loaded with excitement and the edge-of-your-seat competition that makes this one of the most exciting championships on the planet. An incredibly deep field is setting the stage for another great title fight in AMSOIL Arenacross. As the season prepares to complete its first month this Saturday, January 30, from the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina, Team Babbitt’s/Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki’s Chris Blose leads the way atop the Arenacross Class standings on the heels of his second overall win in 2016.

Now in his second season of AMSOIL Arenacross competition, Blose is beginning to cement himself as one of the lead contenders for the Ricky Carmichael Cup. He’s the only rider in the championship to finish on the overall podium at each race this season, and he’s the only rider with multiple wins to his credit. As a result, he carries a five-point lead into Greensboro with his Team Babbitt’s teammates Jacob Hayes and Gavin Faith hot on his heels.

While the Kawasaki trio has won each overall this season, it hasn’t been without stiff competition. Currently, Woodstock/TZR KTM’s Travis Sewell appears to be on the brink of a breakout season. He’s been a consistent contender for the podium and has three Main Event wins to his credit, one of just two riders with multiple wins. Sewell sits 13 points out of the lead and if he continues his solid effort, it’s only a matter of time before he captures his first career overall win and becomes an even bigger threat for the championship. This weekend in Greensboro also serves as an opportunity for Rockstar Energy Drink Husqvarna Factory Racing presented by FMC and OTSFF rider Kyle Regal, the defending AMSOIL Arenacross Champion, to throw himself into contention. Regal has been up front throughout the season, but misfortune has struck more than he’d like and his results are not an indication of how well he’s actually been riding. He currently sits fourth in the championship, 34 points behind Blose.

Sewell has been the one of the most consistent and impressive riders in 2016.

In the highly anticipated professional debut of Austin Forkner, the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider showed he has the talent to race alongside AMSOIL Arenacross’ most prominent names, ultimately finishing fifth overall. Forkner was in line for a podium finish during a heated battle with Blose in the second Main Event, but bobbled on the final lap and lost a spot. Nevertheless, Forkner gained invaluable experience at the pro level that should make him even more confident heading into Greensboro.

In the Eastern Regional Arenacross Lites Class Championship, the parity continued with the fourth different winner in as many races. Team Babbitt’s/Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki’s Jacob Williamson raced to his first career AMSOIL Arenacross victory by leading all 15 laps of the Main Event, continuing another incredible trend. In each of the four Arenacross Lites Class Main Events, the eventual winner has led every lap. Considering there has been a different winner each race, starts are more important than ever with such a competitive group of riders in the Eastern Regional Championship. A&Y Racing Honda’s Daniel Herrlein sits atop the championship standings, 14 points ahead of Williamson.
