Cypress, CA - Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., is
proud to introduce the Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha team and its
riders who will be competing in the 2016 Monster Energy AMA Supercross
Championship.
Led by team owner Coy Gibbs and team manager Jeremy Albrecht, the
Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha riders include Justin Barcia, Weston
Peick, and Phil Nicoletti, each of whom will be competing aboard Yamaha
YZ450F machines in the 450SX Championship.
Justin Barcia, who joined the Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha team
in 2015, had a shortened Supercross season due to injury, but he still
showed his considerable talent by earning five top-10 finishes and one
top-5 result. Justin came on strong during the outdoor motocross
season, notching two wins, five podiums, and finishing third overall in
the Championship. He was selected to represent the U.S. at the 2015
Motocross of Nations, where he served as team captain and won his
division to help Team USA finish second overall at the event.
Also new to the Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha team in 2015, Weston
Peick had a breakout season in Supercross, earning his first 450SX
podium at Santa Clara and following that up with another podium result
at the final round in Las Vegas. Weston trained hard during
the off-season and finished out the year by winning the highly coveted
King of Lille-Bercy in Paris, France.
Phil Nicoletti raced in ten supercross events
for the Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha team in 2015, where he earned a
best finish of 13th place in both Dallas and Indianapolis. Phil will be
an alternate rider for the team during the Supercross season, as he
prepares for his full participation in the Lucas Oil Pro AMA 450cc
Motocross Championship.
“It’s great to have Justin, Weston, and Phil back with
the Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha team again for 2016,” Keith
McCarty, Motorsports Racing Division Manager for Yamaha
Motor Corporation, U.S.A., said. “I know that all three riders have been
training hard aboard their YZ450F machines, and they’re ready to give
the fans and all of us at Yamaha a lot to cheer about all season long.”
The cheering begins for Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha on Saturday,
January 9, as the 2016 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship gets
underway at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, CA.
