PAYSON, UT (May 8, 2018) – Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS had a stellar finish to the 2018 season of Monster Energy Supercross, with Blake Baggett finishing 4th in the overall standings and Benny Bloss receiving the award for AMA 450SX Rookie of the Year.
Blake Baggett had the best season of his 450SX career, logging a total of five podiums throughout the season, including two in the final two rounds. His impressive performance and consistent results led him to place 4th in the overall standings for the season.
“The 2018 season was a high for us as it was our best overall result in the SX series, and we earned five SX podiums along the way,” said Forrest Butler, Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS Owner. “Baggett endured the entire season, including dealing with a pretty bad wrist injury midseason. Sometimes, people forget what it's like to make all 17 rounds, and he did it – earned five podiums and 4th overall in points. The sky is the limit on where he can take things in 2019.”
Benny Bloss didn’t start out his rookie 450SX season as he might have hoped since he was sidelined with an injury after a crash at Anaheim 1. When he was able to return to racing, he wasn’t at full health and struggled for a few rounds. However, around the midseason mark, Bloss was back to speed and put in great results, culminating with 6th in Las Vegas. The AMA named him the 450SX Rookie of the Year for 2018.
“Bloss earned Rookie of the Year because he was amazing for a rookie,” said Butler. “Bloss was injured bad six weeks before Anaheim 1 and, unfortunately, was injured again at Anaheim 1. He came back at round 4 and, to me, showed everyone what an intelligent rider he is. The results didn't show on paper the first half, but his hard work ethic sure showed in the second half of the season – and especially at the end. Being a rookie is hard in 250SX; being a rookie under the factory spotlight in the 450SX class is even harder. Benny rose to that occasion, and I am very proud of him.”
The team’s 250SX riders also had great seasons. Both had finishes that either matched or exceeded the best finishes of their careers in previous seasons: Dakota Alix taking 7th in Salt Lake City and Anthony Rodriguez placing 5th in Minneapolis. Alix finished the season in 15th overall for the west region, while Rodriguez finished in 9th overall for the east region.
“We’re excited by the 2018 supercross achievements of the team,” said Dan Thomas, CEO and Founder of Rocky Mountain ATV/MC. “These riders have proven they’re among the top athletes in the sport, and we’re grateful for their efforts as they’ve been part of Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS.”
