Monster Energy®/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki riders Adam Cianciarulo and Martin Davalos will miss the 2018 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
Cianciarulo will undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL, an injury that has plagued him for more than a year. Despite the injury, he has been competitive through all 10 rounds of the 2018 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season, including a win Saturday night in Las Vegas, finishing second in the 250SX Western Region rider point standings.
"I'm very disappointed that I won't be out there doing what I love and competing this summer," said Cianciarulo. "At the same time, I'm excited to get this behind me so I can be at my very best going into next season and many seasons to come."
Davalos suffered multiple injuries to begin the 2018 Monster Energy Supercross season that ultimately lead to him missing five rounds of the 250SX Eastern Region series. Davalos will undergo knee surgery as well as recover from a neck injury forcing him to miss the AMA Pro Motocross Championship this year.
"This season has been very tough for me," said Davalos. "After multiple evaluations and doctor visits, I've decided I will need the time to recover and get back to feeling healthy while doing what I love most. I'm beyond grateful for the opportunity to work with the entire Pro Circuit Kawasaki crew again and thankful for all of their time, efforts and support throughout this whole process."
"This was a difficult decision, but I support Adam and Martin taking care of themselves," said Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki Team Owner, Mitch Payton. "I'm proud of what Adam has been able to accomplish this year and I look forward to seeing what he can really do once he's back to being 100% healthy. It is a shame that Martin never had a chance to show what he was capable of this season. Our athletes work hard all year long and put a lot of stress on their bodies for this sport. It's important to listen to what your body is telling you and take the necessary time to recover."
The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team will be represented by Joey Savatgy, Austin Forkner and newcomer Garrett Marchbanks during the AMA Pro Motocross Championship as the team looks to claim its 11th motocross championship in 2018.
