Round 13 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship wasn't one to miss as the riders were faced with the toughest conditions yet. As the skies over CenterLink Field poured down, Monster Energy® Kawasaki riders excelled as Eli Tomac captured his sixth win of the season, and teammate Tyler Bowers raced his way to a career-best 450SX finish in sixth place.
When the gate dropped on 450SX Heat Race 2, Tomac quickly proved that he would be hard to beat in the mud after dominating the heat race with a 39-second margin of victory, while Bowers qualified in third place. In a shortened 12-minute, plus one lap 450SX Main Event, Tomac wasted no time off the start sliding around the first turn in third place. On Lap 6, the leader would go down and Tomac would take over the lead. The conditions were treacherous, but Tomac kept his KX™450F on two wheels for 11 laps to take the win. Tomac now sits in third place in the 450SX Rider Points Standings. Bowers powered through the mud and slop to finish in sixth place, a 450SX career best for him.
"Today couldn't have gone any better for us," said Tomac. "This is motorcycle racing and we have to deal with the cards we are given. Tonight was some of the craziest conditions I've had to race in, but I had a blast. I am pumped to get another win and now sit third in the points. I am looking forward to keeping the ball rolling into Minneapolis."
"Today was crazy," said Bowers. "I wasn't sure what to expect tonight with how the track conditions were, but I have always felt confident in the mud and to finish in sixth, feels great. The trick tonight was to take it slow and steady and to keep it on two wheels the best you could. I can't thank the Monster Energy Kawasaki team enough for all their support."
After a shortened qualifying schedule due to weather, a surprise Kawasaki rider Brandan Leith logged the fastest qualifying time and had first gate pick on his KX™250F. Once racing got underway, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Adam Cianciarulo found himself qualifying through the Last Chance Qualifier, while Joey Savatgy finished fourth in his heat race. As the gate fell on the 250SX Main Event, Savatgy briefly sat in second place before he slid into the tuff blocks and went down. Savatgy would remount in 21st and begin to charge through the competition to cross the finish line in 12th place. After a 10th place start, Cianciarulo raced through the deep, rutted Seattle track to pass seven riders to finish on the podium in third place. Cianciarulo now sits in third place in the 250SX Rider Point Standings.
"Tonight in Seattle went a lot better than expected," said Cianciarulo. "I made an amateur mistake in the heat race and overheated my clutch, which eliminated me from the heat. From there it was all hands on deck because we had to turn around and race the LCQ, which we won, then turn around again and line up for the main event. This Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team is the best. Overall, it was a good weekend because we got on the box and I am leaving healthy."
"Tonight didn't go our way," said Savatgy. "I got off to a great start in the main but crashed early and after that, I was caked in mud, which made it even harder to navigate the tricky conditions. We've got a couple races left, so we'll regroup and try again in Salt Lake City."
