Foxborough, Massachusetts - April 22, 2018 - The 2018 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship made a stop in Foxborough, Massachusetts on Saturday for Round 15 of the 17-round series at Gillette Stadium. It's been an injury-stricken season for the Monster Energy/Yamaha Factory Racing Team but Justin Barcia continues to make steps in the right direction with a heat race win and a top-ten finish in his second race back from injury.
It was a daytime event in Foxborough, which meant an early start for the Monster Energy/Yamaha Factory Racing Team on Saturday. The northeastern dirt presented rocky and slick conditions and the team knew that traction would be a factor. Barcia had a good start in practice and the team made a few suspension adjustments throughout the day which improved traction and proved to be beneficial as Barcia rode his YZ450F to a heat race win, setting himself up for a great pick on the starting gate for the Main Event.
As the gate dropped for the 450SX Main Event, Barcia got off to a good start but he was immediately pinched off and shuffled to the back. Justin put his head down and began his charge through the pack but he ran into many setbacks throughout the chaotic 20-minute plus-one-lap Main Event, including contact with a few other riders that resulted in a crash and going off the track. In the end, Barcia was able to salvage a ninth-place finish despite the great speed and determination he displayed throughout the day.
Jim Perry - Monster Energy/Yamaha Factory Racing Team Manager
"We were glad to see a heat race win from Justin, it was definitely a step in the right direction after coming back from injury. It was kind of a disappointing night as it ended because we thought Justin could have been on the podium and possibly challenge for a win if he was towards the front at the start. But it's behind us, so we'll move onto Salt Lake City next weekend in elevation and look forward to finishing out the series with a couple podium finishes and possibly challenging for a win."
Justin Barcia, #51 - Monster Energy/Yamaha Factory Racing Team
"Ninth place is disappointing to me. I feel like I should have been way more up front and I felt like I could have been on the podium tonight, which is where I want to be and where I belong. Going into Salt Lake City, I'm feeling positive. I've been making steps since I've come back from my injury with fifth overall last week and winning a heat race this weekend, so I feel like I'm heading in the right direction. The team and I are going to go work on a few things this week, do a little outdoor testing as well, and be ready to be on the podium again in Salt Lake City."
