Salt Lake City, UT (April 28, 2018) – Rookie Chase Sexton again showed the speed to battle the established veterans of Monster Energy Supercross’ 250SX West campaign. At the next-to-last round of the series in Salt Lake City, Utah, Sexton came from a mid-pack start to nab fifth, keeping pressure on series’ leader Aaron Plessinger for much of the race.
“Felt good on the bike all day and qualified fourth out of practice. I was happy with my riding,” said Sexton. “In the heat race, I got the holeshot but hit neutral going into the corner which let AP (Plessinger) around me. I pretty much just followed him the whole race besides for a mistake on the last lap which gave him a gap. Ended up second. Going into the main I felt good and was ready to get my first win but lined up a little too far outside which was my fault and got pushed wide. Fought my way from mid pack to fifth. For awhile I was right on the front four but unfortunately I made way too many mistakes which left me with a fifth. Not a good night but not a bad night either! I’m putting my head down this week to come out swinging in Vegas to the season on a high note!”
Sexton also sits fifth in the 250SX West standings.
GEICO Honda’s Christian Craig competed on the Honda HRC CRF450R in the premier class. He logged a career-best fourth, staying right in the fray with the top riders in that division.
One supercross race remains this season. Next weekend’s Las Vegas finale will feature the annual Dave Coombs Sr. Memorial East/West Showdown, putting Sexton and 250SX East teammate Jeremy Martin into battle against each other, as well as the best 250SX riders from both coasts. The two divisions only raced at one other race this season, in Indianapolis, and Martin got the win.
