Bel-Ray Race Report - Weekend Wrap-Up

When the rest of the industry over looked former multi-time champion Chad Reed this winter as a non-contender, Bel-Ray was proud to step up and stand beside the Australian racer. Reed’s hard work, dedication, and consistency was rewarded this past weekend as his second place finish in the main event vaulted him past title contender, Ryan Villopoto and into the points lead of the Monster Energy Supercross Series.

Qualifying went well for Reed with the third fastest time, followed by a second in his heat race. Reed then got a good start in the main event and despite challenging race leader, Ryan Dungey; he was never able to make the pass and had to settle for a second at the end of the 20 lap main event. Reed’s second place, coupled with James Stewart’s fourth and Ryan Villopoto’s ninth, pushed him into the points lead.

After an excellent weekend in Jacksonville a week ago, the Hart and Huntington / Dodge Motorsports team of Ivan Tedesco and Chris Blose had an off weekend marred with crashes. After a fourth place in his heat race, Tedesco could only salvage an eighteenth and Blose a seventeenth at the end of the main event. Both racers remain in the Top 15 in the season points standings. Tedesco sits in eleventh and Blose in fourteenth going into the next round in Dallas, Texas.

Another great weekend of racing awaits team Bel-Ray next week. Watch www.belray.com  for results and race reports all season long.    Was this post helpful? Add yours to our service or subscribe to our feed above.

Inside MXP with Marc Travers
"It's about time someone did this from MXP. Where ya been?!! LOL", said an MXP Fan. Well, we answered it with Inside MXP with Marc Travers. There is a lot of chatter throughout the industry that rarely gets heard. It's lost in the world of secrecy and inner circles.

Tune in every Tuesday for some insight from all angles of the Motocross scene. Listen as Travers finds out the truth, the unexpected, and what goes on behind closed doors.

He has also helped KTM become a huge threat as a competitive motorcycle that fans are looking to buy. Andy has a wealth of experience, and you get a taste of it in this podcast. Click here to listen.
Jason Hughes, owner of Leading Edge Kawasaki and Team Manager of the Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki Team, is fairly new as far as racing goes on the Pro team level. Bel-Ray Race Report - Weekend Wrap-Up

As March reaches the mid way point, motorcycle racing is in full swing across the globe and Bel-Ray is amidst all the action. Racing not only tests the complete product line at the highest level of performance, but allows for new products to be born under the high-pressure environment of professional racing.

Bel-Ray racers had success across the globe this past weekend beginning in the United States with the Daytona 200, which is held on the famous tri-oval at Daytona Beach Florida. Long time Bel-Ray racer, Ricky Orlando proved the durability as he competed in yet another Daytona 200. After just 3 laps, Orlando became the new leader in all time miles in the classic road racing event. Congratulations on a job well done! Orlando went on to finish in 20th place in this prestigious event aboard his Bel-Ray backed Orlando Racing Kawasaki ZX-6R. He was followed across the line in 23rd by another Bel-Ray backed, long time Daytona road racer, Anthony Fania and his KSW Racing Suzuki GSXR-600.

Heading northwest to Indianapolis, Indiana, the Monster Energy Supercross series is continuing to heat up. There were 6 Bel-Ray backed racers in action on Saturday night. TwoTwo Motorsports team rider, Chad Reed held onto third place and another podium, his 4th in a row and 6th this season. Hart and Huntington / Dodge Motorsports team riders, Ivan Tedesco and Chris Blose both had an off night with crashes affecting their results. Blose was 18th and Tedesco was 19th at the end of the night.  Elite support riders Steve Roman, Ronnie Stewart and Frankie Lettieri all made the cut to the night show, but all fell short of qualifying out of their heats for the 20 man main event.

Across the ocean in Australia, the 2011 season got underway in motocross with Round 1 of the Australian Motocross Championship in Broadford, Victoria. The Team 07 Axis Motorsports Honda racer was 4th overall in the Lites class. Also taking place in Australia this weekend, was round 1 of the Yamaha YMF Loan Australian FX Superbike Championship in Eastern Creek NSW. YRT racers, Kev Curtain was the overall winner, ahead of teammates, Rick Olson in 2nd and Pat Medcalf in 4th. Curtain was also the winner in theFX600 division.

“THE MOTO: INSIDE THE OUTDOORS” MOTOCROSS DOCU-SERIES RETURNS TO FUEL TV
High Energy Sophomore Season Premieres Thursday, March 3, 2011
LOS ANGELES, CA - FUEL TV, Fox Sports Media Group’s dynamic entertainment and sports network for young males, announces the return of the exciting motocross docu-series “The Moto: Inside The Outdoors,” premiering on Thursday, March 3, at 10:00PM ET/PT. The eight-part series, produced and directed by the award-winning motocross filmmaker Troy Adamitis, provides an intimate, inside look at one of the most grueling professional race series in the world; the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
Shot in high definition, season two of “The Moto: Inside The Outdoors” reveals the behind-the-scenes lives of the top motocross professionals in the world. Riders such as 2010 Champion Ryan Dungey, 2009 Champ Chad Reed, rivals Mike Alessi and Josh Grant, and seasoned pro Andrew Short, come together to compete on the grueling 12-stop race circuit. Going beyond the track, “The Moto” also highlights the trainers, mechanics, families and friends who serve as the foundation for success. Rain or shine, “The Moto” follows their nomadic journeys on the road, the track and in the pits to uncover the lives of people who lay it all on the line; hostile rivalries, brutal tracks, unforgiving weather and a constant goal of mastering their body’s limitations. In this world, everything comes second to the moto.
“The first season was big with our audience,” says CJ Olivares, FUEL TV GM. “It brought a distinctive voice that no one other than Troy and his team could deliver. This season, they were embedded in the tour all season, and with their skills as storytellers and amazing cinematographers, they take us deeper into the emotional stories of guys who risk everything for the love of racing. When you watch the show, it’s hard not to get sucked into this intriguing world.”
“This show is such a great opportunity to showcase the motocross lifestyle,” says “The Moto: Inside The Outdoors” Director Troy Adamitis. “We have a tremendous amount of respect for the industry, the riders, and their families. FUEL TV has the perfect platform for this kind of show and we’re thrilled to be working together for a second season.”
Adamitis has directed more than 20 motocross films including the famed documentary series “The Great Outdoors.” He’s considered one of the leading filmmakers in the sport of motocross and is known for amazing cinematography, authenticity, and compelling story-telling techniques that transcend typical sport films. He has created motocross cult classics such as “Wrathchild,” “Chapter 1” and “ChainSmoke.”
Original episodes of “The Moto: Inside The Outdoors” premiere on FUEL TV on Thursday nights starting March 3, 2011 at 10:00pm ET/PT and re-air several times throughout the week. The series is eight weeks long. To watch an embeddable show teaser, please click here: http://bcove.me/81nahkne

Defending Champion Strang Faces Stacked Field Next Week in GNCC Opener

Defending Champion Strang Faces Stacked Field Next Week in GNCC Opener

River Ranch, FL (March 2, 2011) - Josh Strang, the 2010 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Champion, already knows that defending a championship may be harder than winning one. The FMF Makita Suzuki rider can look to 2009 GNCC Champion Paul Whibley for proof. While Whibs struggled through much of 2010, Strang went to another level and claimed his first major off-road championship.
The opener of the 2011 Can-Am GNCC tour, the Moose Racing Westgate River Ranch GNCC in River Ranch, Florida, takes place next Tuesday, March 8. Strang understands the challenges, but the 22-year-old Australian plans on facing them head on - with even more fitness and speed than last year. He'll need it, because the competition is stacked.
His closest pursuer in 2010, Charlie Mullins, is back racing for a new team this year. The rejuvenated FMF KTM factory team signed Mullins in an effort to gain back the GNCC Title it held from 2005 through 2008. Mullins led most of last year's River Ranch event before sucking water into his bike's engine, which means he'll be out to avenge that next week. He will ride a 450 XC-F, with two of the strongest young talents serving as KTM teammates. Kailub Russell graduates to the premiere XC1 class after back-to-back XC2 Lites Championships. And Corey Buttrick hopes to build on a solid 2010 rookie campaign that saw him win a race and take fourth in the series. Both Russell and Buttrick will race the new 350 XC-F.
Then there is Whibley, anchoring the Am-Pro Yamaha outfit. After a slow transition to Yamaha last year, Whibley hopped on a YZ450F over the summer and showed up with new-found speed, winning the last two races overall. No one outworks the New Zealand veteran, and he hopes to carry his momentum over from last season. His always-fast teammate Thad DuVall, the 2008 XC2 Lites Champion, hopes to develop the consistency needed to challenge Strang. The speed is already there.

Suzuki's Josh Strang will attempt to defend his 2010 title this year
And even Strang's Suzuki squad has strengthened it ranks, adding Arkansas' Josh Weisenfels to the roster to pursue the XC2 Title on an RM-Z250. There, he will face FAR Husqvarna's Jason Thomas in an expected duel for the Lites title, with talented KTM riders Jesse Robinson and Steward Baylor also in the mix. Honda is getting into pursuit of the GNCC Title for the first time since Scott Summers' XR600 heydays in the 1990s. The GEICO JG Off-Road squad, which won the 2009 GNCC Title with Whibley, will ride with Honda backing. Veteran Jimmy Jarrett, who won last year's Unadilla GNCC, will race the XC1 class with Scott Watkins fighting for the XC2 title.
Beta debuts a factory effort as well, signing last year's fifth-overall XC1 rider, Chris Bach, to ride their factory machine. With Suzuki, Yamaha, KTM, Honda, Husky and Beta competing for GNCC wins and titles, the field is one of the strongest ever assembled.
The XC1 and XC2 classes will race for three hours on a demanding, whooped-out sand track at the Westgate River Ranch. The race begins at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, fitting into the Daytona Bike Week schedule.  Classes are also available for a full roster of amateur riders.
Spectator passes run $20 for Saturday and Sunday tickets, and $20 for a Monday and Tuesday ticket. Children five and under are admitted free. On both Sunday and Tuesday, youth riders race at 8 a.m., beginner riders race at 10 a.m., and the top amateurs and the pros race at 1 p.m.
The track is located at the Westgate River Ranch in Lake Wales, Fla. From U.S. 27, go south to S.R. 60 (Lake Wales Exit), make a left and head east for approximately 25 miles. River Ranch is on the right.
The 2011 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series kicks off this weekend, in conjunction with Daytona Bike Week.  Bike practice will take place on Monday and racing on Tuesday.  For more information, go to www.gnccracing.com.

Bel-Ray Race Report Atlanta SX

Bel-Ray Race Report Atlanta SX

Round 8 of the Monster Energy Supercross series took place on Saturday night, February 26th, at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA. The Bel-Ray backed teams of Two Two Motorsports and Dodge/ Hart & Huntington Racing were both in attendance, as were 3 of Bel-Ray’s Elite support riders competing in the Lites class.

Timed qualifying started off well on the technical track with Two Two Motorsports’, Chad Reed setting the 2nd fastest time with a 46.906, followed by Dodge / Hart and Huntington teammates  Ivan Tedesco in 9th with a 48.285 and Chris Blose in 19th with a 49.694. Lites qualifying had Bel-Ray backed, Ronnie Stewart with a 52.367 in 36th, Steve Roman with a 52.501 in 39th and Frankie Lettieri with a 53.636 in 52nd.

Heat race action was successful again for the Bel-Ray backed teams. Reed was second in the first heat and Tedesco and Blose were 4th and 8th in the second heat. For the 8th time this season, all 3 Bel-Ray backed 450 racers were in the main event. Lites racing wasn’t as successful, as both Roman and Stewart missed the cut and did not make the main event.

The main event began with Reed getting a great start, only to be passed by James Stewart early on lap #1.  When Stewart bobbled, Reed got by and led for a majority of the main event. After less than stellar starts, Blose and Tedesco worked up into mid-pack positions. Stewart would get back by Reed just before the last lap and when Reed made a last ditch effort for the win, the two collided and they both went down. They were quickly back up and Reed recovered for a 3rd place finish and the final step on the podium. By the end of the main, event Tedesco worked his way up to 9th with Blose finishing 14th.

The season points standing now have Reed in 3rd, Tedesco in 9th and Blose in 14th.

The series heads to Daytona International Speedway this weekend for the famous Daytona Supercross.

The race will be broadcast live on Speed beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET Saturday night.
