2011 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series Schedule
Morgantown, W. Va. (December 28, 2010) - Racer Productions, producers of the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series, announce the schedule for the 13-round 2011 GNCC racing tour. While the dates for the events were announced previously, the series locations are now available, including the announcement of several new facilities.
The Indy 100 GNCC in Gosport, Indiana joins the tour for the first time on May 14-15, and the Rock Run GNCC in Altoona, Pennsylvania debuts on May 28-29. The location for one other GNCC round, on September 24-25, will be announced shortly. GNCC officials are currently exploring venues in the Northern Pennsylvania or Western New York region.
"We're excited to head to these new locations, as well as our existing tracks," says GNCC Trail Boss Jeff Russell. "Indiana and Pennsylvania have a long history in this series and we expect plenty of fans to come and cheer the racers, and plenty of racers to enjoy these new tracks."
The Antoona, Pennsylvania, race will effectively replace the Somerset, Pennsylvania round that ran in 2010, as the two locations are within about 20 miles of each other. The Gosport, Indiana, race, hopes to capitalize on the popularity of the Ironman GNCC in Crawfordsville, Indiana, which is usually one of the biggest events of the year.
The series once again opens with the River Ranch GNCC in River Ranch, Florida. As part of the annual Daytona Bike Week schedule, ATVs will practice on Saturday March 5 and race on Sunday, March 6. Bikes will practice on Monday, March 7 and race on Tuesday March 8.

2011 Pro-Am Mx Schedule

Courtesy of AMA
PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is pleased to announce the 2010 AMA Racing Pro/Am motocross schedule. These events are where dreams begin for amateur racers, and where they earn the credentials to line up at an AMA Supercross or AMA Pro Racing Motocross event.

"Our Pro/Am competitors race at these premier tracks for the points, purse money and contingency that will help them get to the next level," said AMA Director of Racing Joe Bromley. "This year's schedule is one of the best, with 53 events at some of the country's most challenging race tracks and staged by the sport's top promoters and organizers. This schedule will no doubt help prepare the fastest amateur motocross racers on the planet for the pro ranks."

A highlight of the 2010 calendar is the historic Florida motocross facility, Gatorback. Promoted by Unlimited Sports, the location will host the first and last rounds of the schedule.

"Pro/am racers are hungry, not just for the points to get their pro license, but for race wins," said Wyn Kern of Unlimited Sports. "For many of these kids, they need to excel to keep their dreams alive. This creates an unmatched competitive atmosphere and an incredible on-track show for the fans of the sport. The AMA Racing Pro/Am events are two highlights on our schedule, and we're looking forward to two stellar events."

AMA Director of Supercross Kevin Crowther added that the AMA Racing Pro/Am schedule and points process has contributed significantly to the skill and readiness of incoming AMA Supercross riders.

"The AMA Racing Pro/Am program is critical to the natural progression of a rider through the amateur ranks of AMA amateur motocross all the way up to getting their AMA Supercross license," Crowther said. "We are pleased to see such a strong schedule for 2011. The program gets stronger every year and makes our job of licensing new professional Supercross and Motocross riders even more rewarding."

AMA Racing Pro/Am motocross events are open to both professionally licensed and A-class amateur motocross racers. The events allow amateurs to gain experience on America's top tracks and prepare for the fast pace and long motos that professional racing demands.

To be considered for a professional motocross license, competitors must have earned at least 75 advancement points (at the time of application) in AMA Racing Pro/Am motocross events in a continuous 12-month period. Points are based on overall finishes in either the 250 Pro/Am and Open Pro/Am classes. Points from each class are not combined.

Yamaha Ready for Battle and the 2011 SX Season
Cypress Calif., December 16, 2010 – Yamaha Motor Corporation U.S. is pleased to announce its entire line-up of teams ready to battle for the 2011 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship.
Headlining the assault is James Stewart. Signed to a two-year contract with L & M Racing, James is looking forward to winning his second title for Yamaha on his YZ450F. He’s currently in lock down in Florida putting the finishing touches on his race prep and testing so he can come out with both barrels blazing at Anaheim 1.
Joining Stewart on Team L & M is Texas phenom Kyle Regal. Always a threat to podium outdoors, Regal has spent the last few months honing his Supercross skills turning lap after lap around the Yamaha Supercross test track.
For 2011 Star Racing owner Bobby Regan has placed team management reigns in the very capable hands of Allan Brown. Brown has assembled a new roster of riders to take the YZ250F to the front of the Lites Championship. With his wealth of knowledge David will help guide riders Kyle Chisholm, new comer Tommy Hahn and Vince Friese to reach their ultimate goals in 2011.

2011 Loretta Lynn's Regional Schedule Announced

Courtesy of MX Sports
Morgantown, W.Va. - MX Sports, producers of the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn Ranch, announce today the 2011 Regional Championship Schedule. The Regional Championships serve as the final races to seed riders into the National Championship at Loretta Lynn Ranch, and only riders who finish in a qualifying position at a regional event are eligible to race the national.

"We're excited to announce this schedule, which includes an all-star cast of regional tracks, including six venues with experience holding AMA Pro National events" says MX Sports Director Tim Cotter. "The tracks have been selected based on their ability to produce large and complicated events."

"The best amateur motocross racers in the world earn their way to the top through the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships," says AMA Motocross Manager Kip Bigelow. "But qualifying to line up at Loretta Lynn's isn't easy. These competitors must race their way through a challenging Area and Regional qualifying system that guarantees a best-of-the-best lineup at the championships every summer. The AMA is looking forward to working with the dedicated and talented staff at MX Sports, and all the local track organizers who will make this happen in 2011."

Of note, Gatorback Raceway in Winter Garden, Florida, appears on the schedule for the first time in years, reducing the travel for the many Florida-based riders who usually travel further north for their Regional Championship. Thunder Valley Raceway in Lakewood, Colorado will host the South Central Regional Championship, a welcome break for the many Colorado riders who usually have to travel to Regional Championships further south. As always, the Regional Championship tracks revolve on a rotating schedule year-to-year.

Riders who qualify at the Regional Championships will then be eligible to race for the AMA Amateur National Championships at Loretta Lynn Ranch on August 1- 6, 2011.

MX Sports Congratulates Hall of Fame Inductees

Courtesy of MX Sports
When the 2010 Motorcycle Hall of Fame Inductees were enshrined on Friday evening in Las Vegas, four people who have made great contributions to the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship over the years were among the honorees. Pro Circuit founder Mitch Payton, JT Racing founders John and Rita Gregory, and Eyvind Boyesen, the man behind Boyesen Engineering, were all honored in the ceremony at the Red Rocks Resort for their work in and around American Motocross.

MX Sports Pro Racing, organizers of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, as well as our partners at Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports, and the 12 race promoters that make up the National Promoters Group (NPG), wish to congratulate Payton, the Gregorys, and the entire Boyesen family on their respective honors.

Mitch Payton's success in the motorcycle industry is a testament not only to his work ethic and perseverance, but also that of his family, his staff at Pro Circuit, and all of the racers and mechanics and team sponsors that have participated in his program over the years. Payton was an aspiring racer himself until a desert-racing accident left him in a wheelchair at 17 years of age. He then went into the aftermarket business, taking a small bike shop in Anaheim, Calif., and building it into the global motocross power that is Pro Circuit, now based in Corona, Calif. Along the way he has won numerous races and titles with lineups that have included the likes of Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael, Ryan Villopoto, Mickael Pichon, Grant Langston, Ivan Tedesco, Mike Brown and more.

John and Rita Gregory founded JT Racing together as motocross in Southern California was just taking off some 40 years ago. Together they built a riding-gear empire, leading the way in motocross fashion for nearly two decades. Along the way they worked with a long line of AMA Motocross Champions and future Hall of Famers, including Marty Smith, Bob Hannah, Broc Glover, Danny LaPorte, Chuck Sun, Donnie Hansen, David Bailey, Rick Johnson, Ron Lechien and more. In fact, many of those riders were in attendance at the ceremony, including Glover, who came out dressed in the exact same JT Racing gear he wore in the mid-eighties to introduce John and Rita into the Hall of Fame.

Eyvind Boyesen has long been one of the most respected men in motocross. A former racer from Norway, he emigrated to America in the 1960s to work on rocket engines for NASA, then started his own namesake company, Boyesen Engineering, in 1972. Based in Lenhartsville, Pa., Boyesen's innovations include reed valves, carburetion, two-stroke and four-stroke engines, water pumps, and more. Boyesen held more than 40 patents in the motorcycle aftermarket industry. He continued to be an active racer himself until this past year, as well as a sponsor of countless motorcycle racers. Sadly, Eyvind Boyesen passed away on the eve of his induction into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame after a long battle with leukemia. He was 68 years old.

Motorsport Aftermarket Group (MAG), a family of leading brands and businesses in the motorsport industry, announced today that it has acquired the Cycle News brand.

Cycle News, one of the most respected media sources in the motorcycle industry, printed a weekly motorcycle newspaper for more than 40 years until ceasing publication August 31, 2010. Since then it has covered the motorcycle industry and sport through its website cyclenews.com, which will continue to serve the industry and motorcycle enthusiasts under MAG’s guidance.

Cycle News has a rich history and has always been there for both the industry and enthusiasts,” said MAG President & CEO Brian Etter. “Many of us grew up reading Cycle News, and its name has meant a tremendous amount to all of us who love the sport. We are committed to the Cycle News brand and to its readership, and we will work diligently to take it to the next level.”

In addition to acquiring the Cycle News brand, MAG also announced the hiring of Paul Carruthers to return to his position as Editor of Cycle News. Carruthers – who built a 25-year career at Cycle News, including management of all editorial content as its editor since 1994, left the publication in August before it ceased publication.

“In his 25 years with Cycle News, Paul earned the respect and confidence of the industry and its enthusiasts and we are thrilled that he will return,” Etter said. “We are looking forward to working with Paul and his team to move the brand forward.”

A lifelong motorcyclist, Carruthers is excited about working with MAG to restore the brand he helped build.
“I am confident we can put together a quality team to bring Cycle News back to where it belongs – at the forefront of motorcycle media,” Carruthers said. “Having a company like MAG behind us will ensure its success.”

Rockwell’s Sean Borkenhagen Wins the Hart & Huntington Privateer SX Challenge and Some New Bling!
SALT LAKE CITY, UT (November 23, 2010) Rockwell’s Sean Borkenhagen braved the strong winds, rain, and dust at last weekends Hart & Huntington Privateer Supercross Challenge and took the win along with the $3,000 cash prize and an elite Gold/Black Duel Time Rockwell timepiece. Sean transferred directly to the main after winning the first heat and with the win, came a chance to ride in the Dash for Cash against fellow Rockwell rider Kyle Partridge, Tony Gallo, and Hunter Hewitt. Partridge ended up winning in the Dash for Cash, however a bad start in the main event would regulate him to a 2nd place finish. Borkenhagen rode his own race out front during the main and with his smooth style, took the win against some of the best privateers in the country.
“This weekends Heart & Huntington Privateer Challenge was a fun and successful event for me! That was a really cool event they put on. I felt really good all day out there even through the windy conditions. Not only was it really nice to get some good cash and a badass Rockwell watch, it was really good gate time and race practice in preparation for the 2011 Supercross season. I’m just going to keep my head down and work hard and apply what I brought to the track this weekend to the season that lays ahead,” says Borkenhagen of the race.
The Rockwell crew was in full force at the Privateer Challenge, race semi and all. Rockwell Team riders Landen Powell, Jason Potter, Parker Eckman, and Gray Davenport were on hand to grab their share of the $10,000 pro purse. Mistakes and some bad luck kept Eckman and Davenport from qualifying into the main however both Potter and Powell made the cut and finished 7th and 10th, respectively. Potter was running 4th for most of the main but a last lap crash dropped him back a few positions.
When asked about the weekend, Landen Powell remarked, “It was awesome to get on a gate with the guys we will be racing once the season starts. It was a good test on where my speed and endurance is right now. Time to go home and do my homework so I’m ready when the gate drops at A1.”
