Courtesy of Bel-Ray
FARMINGDALE, NJ – June 27, 2011 – Bel-Ray Company, Inc.  – Bel-Ray Racing-Weekend Wrap Up - Smith and Reed Bring Bel-Ray to the Podium
Racing is an integral part of Bel-Ray Total Performance Lubricants and Bel-Ray’s team of professional racers competed across the globe this past weekend.
The Bel-Ray backed Tech3 Racing team of Bradley Smith and Mike DiMeglio came into the Iveco TT in Assen, Netherlands this past weekend with mixed results. Smith came in after a career best Moto2 finish with a 2nd the previous weekend in England, while DiMeglio has yet to find the rhythm that brought him the 2008 125cc World Championship. Smith backed up his prior round's success with another podium finish. After leading the field during the race, Smith settled into a third place finish at the checkered flag. Smith’s excellent finish lands him in 4th place in the World Championship standings, just 4 points out of 3rd. Teammate DiMeglio showed promise early in the race and his speed brought him inside the top 5, when a small error caused him to go down. The bike was damaged and he could not finish the event.
TwoTwo Motorsports / Bel-Ray Racing’s Chad Reed came into the mile high city of Lakewood, CO with the red plate signifying the series points lead and left with the red plate in tact. His 3-3 moto finishes were good for 3rd overall in the tough conditions. Reed retains a 8 point lead heading into this upcoming weekend in Buchanan, MI.
Morden, Manitoba, Canada was the site of Round 4 of the CMRC National Championship series. The Kini / Red Bull / KTM / IMX / Bel-Ray Racing team of Kieran Leigh and Mason Phillips competed on the challenging race track and came home with 12th overall in the MX 2 class for Leigh and 8th overall in the MX 1 class for Phillips.

Kevin Windham to Race Additional Motocross Events

Courtesy of American Honda
Torrance, CA: American Honda Racing announced today that Kevin Windham will continue competing in the 2011 AMA Motocross Championship with the factory Honda team at select events. Windham had originally planned to complete his fill-in role after the return of Josh Grant at the Budds Creek National last weekend, but after posting solid results, including a strong fourth-place finish last weekend, Windham has decided to race additional rounds of the AMA Motocross series. Teammate Trey Canard has just begun training and riding once more, and is working on making his return to racing as soon as possible. “I’ve had a great time riding Motocross this season,” said Windham. “It’s been so much fun, I’m going to race at least a few more rounds. The fans have played a big role in my decision. The crowd support at each race has been kind of overwhelming. I can hear them cheering me on all around the track and so many people come by the transporter to see me and talk with me that I’m just amazed. I’m really enjoying the racing and everything else at the track, and I feel like I have good momentum going into Colorado after finishing just shy of the podium last weekend at Budds Creek.”
American Honda Racing Team Manager Erik Kehoe supports Windham’s decision to continue racing Motocross. “It’s great to see Kevin having so much fun racing,” said Kehoe. “He loves interacting with fans and the fans love coming to see him and talk with him. He’s got an incredible fan base all around the country. And even though he’s concentrated on riding Supercross only for the past several years, Kevin has put in a number of impressive outdoor rides in 2011. It’s been a good run, and I’m excited to see how all this plays out.”

Team Öhlins Young Guns Qualify for MX Mains First Try at High Point

Courtesy of Ohlins
Team Öhlins Young Guns Qualify for MX Mains First Try at High Point

Hendersonville, North Carolina: On a fantastic day of learning and luck, at the
AMA Lucas Oil Motocross Championship round at High Point Raceway, in Mount
Morris, Pennsylvania, two of Team Öhlins three rookie riders qualified for the
mains, with AJ Catanzaro earning the 36 spot on the grid and Garret Toth locking
in position 39, in a field of 88 riders hoping to qualify for the 40 available
gate positions of the Mains.

The plan then was for each rider to move up throughout Moto #1, gaining improved
positions for the start of Moto #2, and increasing chances of a points-paying
finish. Each rider made measure of the plan, with Toth (#687) incredibly
catapulting to a 24th-place finish, making up 15 positions from where he'd
qualified. Catanzaro (330) nearly equaled that impressive performance by
finishing 27th, a cool nine spots up from his gate position for Moto #1.

The Moto #2 main was a completely different show of trials and triumphs, with a
sudden, tenacious and sopping cloud burst flooding the course between the two
Motos. In the Moto 2 mud-bath Toth quickly moved up to 15th before falling and
rejoining the race in last place. Yup, last. Despite the mud and mayhem, Toth
wound his way through the field and captured an incredible 27th. Catanzaro fell
also, maybe more than once or twice, and finished in 28th, directly behind his
teammate. For their two finishes in the Mains, Toth is credited with 26th
overall and Catanzaro with 28th. Nice job.

Stacey Berger, Öhlins USA Off Road Manager, said, "All and all it was a great
event for us. We were joined by other technicians from Öhlins Racing AB in
Sweden, showing how serious we are about this effort. Our riders had some things
to work through and they did a great job. When around 15-minutes before the
second Moto the bottom fell out of the sky, the conditions became miserable at
best. Even so, we learned a lot for testing the day after the event, stopping at
Tomahawk MX Park, just outside Martinsburg, West Virginia on Monday. We're ready
for the next Motos this weekend."

Öhlins USA distributes and services the world's leading performance suspension
for automobiles, motorcycles, ATVs, and snowmobiles. Öhlins develops its
proprietary and innovative suspension components at the highest levels of racing
from open-wheel car racing, to Moto GP, to off-road competition on two and four
wheels. Öhlins USA also provides training for service centers and dealers.

In Saturday mornings timed qualifying, Sipes let his speed be known when he set the 5th fastest lap time giving him a good  gate pick for the day. Moto one crossed over the gate, and after lap one Sipes lead the team in 4th, however on the following lap he pushed hard and jumped up to 2nd. Meanwhile, in the action was Cunningham holding 7th, Swanepoel and Audette both suffered from subpar starts in 21st and 30th. In the next four laps Cunningham was able to hold on to the fast pace, bouncing himself up to 5th, Swanepoel found himself settled in, which carried him to the battle to be inside the top ten, Audette was picking up just where he left off moving right through the field. The later stages of the moto came, and it could be seen that teammates Cunningham 5th, and Swanepoel 12th had charged all they could and needed to ride this one out. Audette never gave in and plugged away through the duration to take 18th at the finish. Unfortunately in the closing moments, Sipes high sided and crashed hard, throwing away his great ride up until this point. This left him with a DNF and forced him to call it a day.
Before the start a rare and unfortunate incident occurred when the team mechanics and riders where not staged on time causing them all to get last gate pick and start from horrible spots. When the all important second moto set out on the now treacherous track, Swanepoel got out to a start of 13th, and on his rear wheel in 16th was Cunningham who looked aggressive. The other FMF backed team rider after lap one sat even farther back, who was Audette in 20th after avoiding getting tangled up, so he had some work to do. Still wanting to be the man, Cunningham rose up and easily moved towards the top ten, on lap six he acquired 13th. Back a little further was, Swanepoel after crashing back to 30th and Audette who also was having flashes of brilliance, both riders could be seen holding 15th and 16th in a convincing fashion. Cunningham, the kid who never quits and is one of the few who can mount charges up to the front, continued moving in the right direction lap after lap. In the end, Cunningham impressively netted 11th; Swanepoel secured 15th, and Audette came away in 17th.
Update on Sipes: Ryan was checked out and diagnosed with a concussion. At this time he’ll sit the next round but is confident that he’ll be racing the Thunder Valley race in Colorado coming in two weeks.
Also adding to the great race results, was Kyle Partridge, our 450F pilot who put two steady moto’s together going 20 – 33 for 24th overall.
Results:
Moto 1  Moto 2 = Overall Finish
Kyle Cunningham 5th 11th = 8th
Gareth Swanepoel 12th 15th = 15th
Gannon Audette 18th 17th = 18th

The AMA National Motocross Series returned following a one week break. TwoTwo Motorsports / Bel-Ray Racing’s Chad Reed retained his top position in the points standings following 5-1 moto finishes for 3rd overall on Sunday. Reed has now won 4 out of 6 motos run so far this season and holds a 15 point lead heading into Maryland this weekend. Bel-Ray Elite racers Lowell Spangler (30th overall) and Ronnie Stewart (40th overall) both made the 40-man gate in the 450 Class while Steve Roman (33rd overall) made the 40-man gate in the 250 class. The series continues this weekend in Mechanicsville, Maryland for the Moto Tees Budd’s Creek National.
The Air Asia British Grand Prix took place at the famous Silverstone Grand Prix under less than ideal conditions with cold weather and rain taking place during the event. Coming from a 28th place grid position, Smith cut through the pack to score his first ever Moto2 podium with a 2nd place. The finish was even more special because it came in front of his hometown fans. However, he poor weather conditions didn’t appeal to teammate Mike DiMeglio, as he could only manage a 17th place finish.
Round 2 of the CMRC National Championship series took  place in Naimo, British Columbia, Canada this past weekend and the the Kini / Red Bull / KTM / IMX / Bel-Ray Racing team of Mason Phillips and Kieran put on another strong showing. Phillips was 4th overall in the MX1 class with 9-4 moto finishes, while teammate Kieran Leigh was 9th overall in the MX2 class with 9-9 moto finishes. The series continues this weekend at the Wild Rose MX Park in Calgary, Alberta.

Bel-Ray Racing Around the World- Weekend Wrap Up

Courtesy of Bel-Ray
FARMINGDALE, NJ – June 6, 2011 – Bel-Ray Company, Inc.  – Bel-Ray Racing Around the World- Weekend Wrap Up

The Yamaha Racing Team led the way with multiple victories in Australian Superbike Racing Action. In 600cc Supersport Racing, the Yamaha duo of Kevin Curtain and Rick Olson scored excellent 1st and 3rd places overall, respectively. Curtain’s victory gives him a 21 point lead in the championship standings, with just 1 round left. In the 1000cc Pro Stock class, teammate Rick Olson used 2-2-1 race finishes to take the overall victory. “To win two classes and have every rider on the podium at the end of a round always means the team has had a great day,” said Team Manager, John Redding who was pleased with the weekend results.
Round 5 of the 17-Round 2011 Moto2 Championship Series was less than ideal for the Bel-Ray backed Tech3 racing team. After setting a 6th fastest qualifying time, Bradley Smith lost many places on the first lap and found himself in 14th place. Working his way through the field, Smith was just outside the top 10, when he was caught up in a high speed crash involving other competitors. Smith’s machine was damaged but he soldiered on and on the final lap was into 8th place when he ran off track in a braking zone. He kept the bike under control but the damage was done and he could only finish 19th place. Teammate Mike DiMeglio has been struggling all season long and round 5 in Cataluyna was no exception. DiMeglio was moving forward early when he went down. He was uninjured but the bike was damaged too much to continue. He was credited with a 30th place finish for the afternoon. The team returns to action this weekend in the United Kingdom.

International motocross racing took place this weekend on both France and Canada. Round 5 of the MX1 World Motocross Championship Series took place in Saint Jean D’Angely, France. TM Factory racer Tanel Leok was 10th overall with 10-10 moto finishes. In Canada, the Kini / Red Bull / KTM / IMX / Bel-Ray Racing team made its debut with Mason Phillips, finishing 14th overall in the MX1 class and teammate Kieran Leigh finishing 9th overall in the MX2 class.
