Reed Makes it 2 in a Row

Courtesy of Bel-Ray
FARMINGDALE, NJ – May 31, 2011 – Bel-Ray Company, Inc.  – Reed Makes it 2 in a Row
Round 2 of the AMA National Motocross Championship series took place on Saturday, May 28th in Freestone, Texas. Two Two Motorsports / Bel-Ray Racing's Chad Reed came into the weekend tied for the points lead with series' rival, Ryan Dungey, and he became the sole points leader when the dust settled at the end of the day.
The oppressive Texas heat and humidity was no match for the Australian native as Reed dug deep and showed the class what he was made of. After setting the second fastest time in the mornings' timed qualifying session, Reed was ready for a successful afternoon.

The first moto saw Reed get a Top 5 start and he quickly found his way into second place. Ryan Dungey made his way up to Reed's rear fender and challenged him for several laps. He pulled away from Dungey and found his way past the moto leader, Christian Craig, and into the lead that he would not relinquish. At the checkered flag, it was Reed with the win.
The second moto again saw Reed with a good start and he was quickly into second place. He tried an alternate line to try and gain time on moto leader, Ryan Dungey, and went down. Quickly back up and underway, he regained second place, but Dungey was too far out front. Disaster struck Dungey as his bike broke less than 2 laps from the end. Reed inherited the lead and the moto victory. His third a row.

Reed's 1-1 moto finishes gave him the overall win and sole possession of the points lead. He now holds a 21-point lead over second place in the quest for the national championship.

Bel-Ray Elite racers Lowell Spangler and Dakota Kessler were also in the main events at Texas this weekend. Spangler's 22-33 moto finishes for 30th overall, while Kessler used 27-31 moto finishes for 32nd overall.

The series takes this upcoming weekend off and resumes on June 11th in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania.

Updated GNCC Schedule

Courtesy of GNCC
Morgantown, W. Va (May 26, 2011) – Racer Productions, producer of the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series, is pleased to announce updates to the 2011 series schedule today. The updated schedule includes the announcement of the T.B.A location in September, as well as make-up dates for the Loretta Lynn and Indy 100 races, which were rained out.
Round 11 of the series will take place at the Mountain Ridge ATV Trails in Somerset, Pa., September 24 and 25. Mountain Ridge returns to the GNCC schedule for the fifth year in a row.
“We are excited to announce the return of Mountain Ridge to the 2011 GNCC schedule,” said Trail Boss Jeff Russell. “Somerset is a great location and we couldn’t be more excited to bring the GNCC racers and fans to the Pennsylvania area once again this year.”
The Loretta Lynn and Indy 100 GNCCs, hosted at Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn. and Gosport, Ind., respectively, both cancelled due to flooding, have been rescheduled for the weekend of November 4-6. The rescheduled November race will mark the first-ever double header in GNCC history. Bikes are scheduled to race on Friday, November 4 and then again on Sunday, November 6. ATV racing will resume on the regularly scheduled Saturday, in between the two days of bike racing.
“There has never been a double header GNCC as long as I’ve been racing so I’m excited to see it unfold at Loretta’s this year,” said Barry Hawk, 8-Time GNCC Champion and track crewmember. “With increased travel expenses, we decided to hold a double header so families wouldn’t have to make an additional trip to make-up the Indy 100 bike race,” Hawk added.
Friday’s race will be the Indy 100 make-up bike race, while Saturday and Sunday will be the Loretta Lynn make-up weekend race, co-sanctioned by the AMA East National Hare Scramble (NEHS). The 50cc bike class will race on Saturday evening, in conjunction with the NEHS.
Furthermore, an additional throwaway has been added to account for the unusual scheduling. Amateur bike class championships will now be determined by the rider’s best finishes in a minimum number of 8 events, rather than the previous 9 events. A rider must now enter a minimum of 8 events to be eligible for series awards and national class ranking, as Racer Productions realizes that not all riders can attend Friday’s race. The additional throwaway affects only the amateur bike classes.
The 2011 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series heads to Patton, Pa., this weekend, May 28 and 29, for the first annual Rock Run GNCC. ATV racing will take place on Saturday, followed by bike racing on Sunday. For more information, please visit www.gnccracing.com

House Committee Voting On Changes To Lead Law, Action Urged

Courtesy of AMA
On May 25, the U.S. House Energy & Commerce Committee, chaired by Representative Fred Upton (R-MI),will be holding a markup Wednesday, at 4:00 p.m. in 2123 Rayburn House Office Building on H.R. 1939, “Enhancing CPSC Authority and Discretion Act of 2011 (ECADA).” The Committee will only be conducting opening statements on May 25.
The Committee will reconvene on May 26, at 10 a.m. in the same room. It is during this time that votes will occur on amendments and the draft bill.
According to the committee, the legislation would revise the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) of 2008 and seeks to give Consumer Product Safety Commission greater authority and flexibility to regulate based on risk.
The CPSIA, commonly called the “lead law,” was designed to ban small toys with high lead content. However, because of broadly written language in the law, it has been interpreted to apply to all products for kids, including dirtbikes, bicycles, clothing and books.
Since the markup is an opportunity to offer amendments, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) will be working with cosponsors of H.R. 412, the “Kids Just Want to Ride Act” to offer it as an amendment. The Kids Just Want to Ride Act would permanently exempt youth-model motorcycles and ATVs from the deleterious effects of the lead-content limits of the CPSIA.
Please note that this markup is scheduled during the same time period as the AMA Family Capitol Hill Climb event. The Hill Climb is being held to send a clear message to federal lawmakers that action is needed now to exempt kid-sized dirtbikes and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) from the CPSIA. For more information on this event, please click here.
Time is of the essence. Please call your Representative now. Your Member of Congress’ contact information can be reached by following the “Call Now” option.
For more information on this issue, click here.
Tell your Representative to offer H.R. 412, the Kids Just Want to Ride Act of 2011, as an amendment to ECADA.

New Jersey Motorsports Park announces bankruptcy recovery plan

Courtesy of NJ Motorsports Park
New Jersey Motor Sports, LLC, operator of New Jersey Motorsports Park announced Tuesday that it has proposed a definite plan to emerge from bankruptcy, following a court hearing scheduled for July 14 in Camden, N.J., at which it anticipates the plan to be confirmed by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. NJMP filed Ch. 11 bankruptcy on March 7, with an agreement with its secured lender, Merrill Lynch Mortgage Capital, Inc.
Under the terms of the proposed arrangement, Merrill Lynch is reducing its secured debt from $30.4 to $20 million, and will act as co-sponsor of the plan, along with NEI Motorsports, LLC, which will pay $2,000,000 to fund certain obligations pursuant to the plan. In the event this $22,500,000 transaction is determined to be the highest and best, NEI will be a majority owner of NJMP upon bankruptcy emergence and Merrill Lynch will hold a minority interest, along with its $20,000,000 restructured secured loan. NEI's shareholders include some of NJMP's shareholders.
As with all transactions that seek a bankruptcy court's approval, NEI's and Merrill Lynch's proposal is subject to higher and better cash offers with a minimum of $23 million. As such, Brownstein Corporation, NJMP's court-approved Financial Advisor, will be sending out solicitations via e-mail and mail to determine whether there might be potentially interested parties with better terms than the bid that NEI and Merrill Lynch are offering.
The NEI/Merrill Lynch plan will not affect the longstanding and valuable relationships NJMP has established with its members, patrons and sponsors, nor will there be any material changes in the company's operations, including its scheduled events, the Drivers Club, Shade Tree Garages, Breighton Villas, hospitality suites, sponsorships, or other aspects of its operations. VMS Ready for the outdoors

Courtesy of VMS
Murrieta, CA - The Valli Motorsports Rockstar Yamaha team is ready to go for a full assault on the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships starting this weekend at the Dirt Diggers Classic, also known as Hangtown MX, just outside of Sacramento, CA.

The Valli Motorsports Rockstar Yamaha outdoor team consists of # 27 Nick Wey, #74 Austin Stroupe and # 539 Ricky Dietrich, with Jon Mitcheff continuing as Team Manager.

Wey is coming off a successful AMA Supercross season where he finished 10th overall with a best finish of 6th in Toronto. Last year outdoors, Wey also finished 10th overall in the series with a second moto 6th at Washougal as his best moto. The veteran is always looking to improve and is ready for the grueling summer races.

Stroupe will be competing on the powerful GYTR-equipped Yamaha YZ450F for the first time outdoors and is looking to quiet the doubters. His Supercross season with filled with highs and lows including some injuries and also some great holeshots and finishes. He finished 18th overall with a season best 7th in Las Vegas. Stroupe has always been a strong rider outdoors and the team is impressed with testing results so far. Unfortunately, Stroupe will miss a bunch of the opening rounds as he elected to have surgery on his shoulder because of complications after Las Vegas. He is expected to be out for about 8 weeks.

Dietrich is a new addition to the team this season, but he has ridden for Valli in the past. The 2007 WORCS champ decided that he wanted to do an entire season outdoors and we are excited to see what he can do aboard the Rockstar Yamaha YZ450F. In 2009, Dietrich filled in part time for the Kawasaki Factory team and finished 14th overall outdoors with a season high fifth in a moto at Red Bud. Ricky loves the outdoors and we believe that he is capable of some strong finishes this season.

Valli Motorsports Rockstar Yamaha is proudly sponsored by these fine companies: Valli Motorsports, Rockstar Energy Drink, Yamaha, Pro Circuit, GYTR, Yamalube, Dunlop, Braking, Hammerhead, Excel, ARC Levers, N-Style, DT1 Filters, Cycra, VP Fuels, Vortex Ignitions, Pro Taper, Light Speed, Mechanix Wear, Boyesen Engineering, Faction MX Hoses and Valli Construction. Muscle Milk Returns to Support the
2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship
Activation Highlighted by Recovery Rider of the Day Award

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - MX Sports Pro Racing, and Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports, announce the return of Muscle Milk, a lactose-free, protein-enhanced beverage, in its role as a top-tier sponsor and the "Official Protein Provider" of the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. As part of its support of American Motocross, Muscle Milk will once again implement the popular Recovery Rider of the Day Award at all 12 rounds of this season's championship.

Muscle Milk broke into the sport of motocross at the start of the 2008 season as a presenting sponsor of the MDK KTM race team. In 2010, the brand signed on as title sponsor of the Joe Gibbs Racing MX team. Since then, its presence within the industry and popularity amongst motocross fans has grown exponentially. This season, the Muscle Milk/Toyota/JGR squad features Justin Brayton, who has been a Muscle Milk athlete since 2008, and newcomer Davi Millsaps - each of whom will compete for a chance at the 450 Class title.

During Muscle Milk's introductory season in 2008, the brand also became an integral part of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. In an effort to further establish itself in the world of motocross and become a name synonymous with the sport and its athletes, Muscle Milk introduced the Recovery Rider of the Day Award. This summer, Muscle Milk will recognize the 450 Class rider who boasts the best increase in finishing position from Moto 1 to Moto 2, excluding any riders who record a DNF, at each round of the championship by awarding him $500 for his tenacity.

"The Recovery Rider of the Day is all about acknowledging riders who were able to recover from Moto 1 to Moto 2," said Muscle Milk's Shane McCassy "Motocross is an intense sport with many variables, so bad motos are part of it. With Muscle Milk's key functionality being exercise recovery, this award ties perfectly into our product."

The added incentive for the riders who experience adversity out on the track is just one of the many ways in which Muscle Milk supports the sport of motocross. Additionally, the brand's mobile training center not only provides a place for riders to grab a Muscle Milk after a tough day on the track, but also gives them a place to warm up, cool down, or workout with some of the latest equipment from Orbea Bicycles and Concept 2.

In an effort to increase their support of American Motocross, GoPro will bring a wider viewership to the sport and the series through unique GoPro-produced content that will be distributed through the brand's social media platform and at the MX video channel on GoPro.com. "We're providing more robust coverage this season, and giving our fans a choice of how they watch moto racing.  This is a huge step forward for the sport."
Bringing the action into homes across the country is a talented lineup of veteran television personalities. MX Sports Pro Racing and Alli Introduce the "Official Fantasy Game" of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship

Courtesy of MX Sports
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 12, 2011) - In celebration of the 40th anniversary of American Motocross, MX Sports Pro Racing and Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports, are pleased to present the "Official Fantasy Game" of the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, hosted exclusively by the Fantasy Action Sports League (FASL). For the first time ever, fans will have the chance to win $5,000 in cash and prizes.
With the season-opening round of the 2011 season just a week-and-a-half away, the brand new fantasy game will allow fans to manage their own team of riders just like a real motocross team manager. Players are given a $120 million salary cap, with which they will select up to eight riders to fill the roster. Riders are given rankings and corresponding salary values that will fluctuate throughout the season based on their performances. Users can cut, drop or trade riders as often as they'd like throughout the summer, but they must always stay within the allotted $120 million budget.
"Fantasy Action Sports League is honored to partner with Alli Sports & MX Sports Pro Racing to become the 'Official Fantasy Game' of the Lucas Oil Motocross Championship," said FASL Director of Sales and Marketing Damon George. "They truly have created the most exciting series in the world of professional motocross and have set themselves apart from the others. We are excited to have this opportunity and look forward to the upcoming 2011 season."
Founded in 2009, the FASL is the largest online action sports fantasy game aggregator and the only site giving away over $75,000 in cash and prizes to hundreds of fantasy gamers in 2011. The company's name says it all with professional games in surf, skate, snow and wake. FASL introduced an unbranded league for motocross last season, subsequently receiving a strong response, boasting 5,000 entries with little to no promotion. With the support of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, the 2011 Fantasy Motocross League will surely generate a much greater following through a wider range of exposure via several industry partnerships.
"The Fantasy Action Sports League allows the sport of motocross to reach an entirely new demographic," said Mark Carter, GM of Strategic Partnerships for Alli Sports.
