Kawasaki Racing Raises $1400 for Charity

Courtesy of Kawasaki

Kawasaki's bake sale brought out $1400 for the Road 2 Recovery charity.
Kawasaki’s Racing and Team Green™ departments at Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. held a bake sale on Wednesday, September 16 to raise money for the Road 2 Recovery Foundation. Kawasaki’s enthusiastic employees donated their time to collectively create a variety of delectable treats for the sale that generated just over $700. Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. generously matched that amount bringing the grand total to more than $1400 for the worthy charity.

The bake sale was the third of a “Pay It Forward” idea that brings Kawasaki’s different departments together throughout the year to raise money for the charity of their choice. The racing department felt strongly that it should give back to its racing community, eventually choosing Road 2 Recovery as its designated charity.

“Road 2 Recovery does such great work with the riders in our racing community and we just wanted to make sure we gave back to them,” said bake sale coordinator and racing administrative Diana Porte. “I am so happy we had such a great response. The people at Kawasaki have great hearts and I consider the sale a huge success.”

2010 Arenacross Schedule Announced

Reigning Series Champion Jeff Gibson Defends Title Against World’s Best Arenacross Racers

Feld Motor Sports? announced today the 12-stops on the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series schedule that will crown a champion at the Denver Coliseum in Denver, Colo. on March 27.

The season’s prequel race will take place at the Des Moines’ Wells-Fargo Arena (non-points paying), foreshadowing the highly anticipated season and giving the sport’s top racers an opportunity to compete on an official AMA Arenacross Series track. The first points-paying race of the 2010 championship is January 8 at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The AMA Arenacross Series will travel to six new cities in 2010, each of which have previously hosted AMA Arenacross Series races in the past including Hampton, Va. (January 22-24), Kansas City, Kan. (January 30-31), Youngstown, Ohio (February 12-14), Council Bluffs, Iowa (March 12-14) and Denver (March 26-28).

“This season is building up to be another great year of racing with many of the greatest AMA Arenacross Series racers returning to fight for the title,” said Jayme Dalsing, director of Arenacross, Feld Motor Sports. “We have a solid schedule this year, and there will not be any breaks once the season starts in January. It is going to be a test for our top riders to come out strong and never let up.”

Reigning AMA Arenacross Series champion Jeff Gibson, of Westerville, Ohio, will defend his championship in 2010 against the world’s top competitors on the intimate AMA Arenacross Series circuit. Gibson was the picture of consistency throughout the entire 2009 season, finishing inside the top 10 all but once throughout the 12-race season. He kicked-off the year with seven consecutive podium finishes, including two victories in that stretch and continued his impressive run by garnering four additional wins. Once he moved into the points lead, Gibson never relinquished his hold atop the standings. The championship also marked the third straight title for the Tuf Honda team, featuring three different riders during that span.

“It’s going to be different this year with the number one plate on my bike, it hasn’t quite hit me yet,” said Gibson. “When I hit the track, that’s when the reality of being the defending champ will sink in, and racing in front of new crowds at new venues is going to make for an exciting 2010 AMA Arenacross Series. Defending my title is going to be tough as the top racers in the world will be gunning for my number-one plate.”

2010 AMA Arenacross Series Schedule:
November 7-8 Des Moines, Iowa Wells Fargo Arena
January 8-10 Grand Rapids, Mich. Van Andel Arena
January 15-17 Baltimore, Md. 1st Mariner Arena
January 22-24 Hampton, Va. Hampton Coliseum
January 30-31 Kansas City, Mo. Kemper Arena
February 6-7 Tulsa, Okla. BOK Center
February 12-14 Youngstown, Ohio Covelli Center
February 20-21 San Antonio, Texas Alamo Dome
February 27-28 Fresno, Calif. Save Mart Center
March 5-7 Reno, Nev. Livestock Event Center
March 12-14 Council Bluffs, Iowa Mid America Center
March 20-21 Dayton, Ohio Ervin J. Nutter Center
March 26-28 Denver, Colo. Denver Coliseum

Short and Marsack Podium for Fly Racing at The Duells SX.

Courtesy of Fly Racing
Fly Racing’s Andrew Short and Jake Marsack made the trip to Sweden last weekend to race in the Duells Supercross. Jake Marsack also rode an impressive race marching his way to a third overall in the main event and making a fantastic showing for Fly Racing in the Swedish Supercross.

Rockwell Riders McGrath and Siebler Win Big at First Annual Powder Mountain Motocross.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (September 2, 2009) Rockwell Time wants to congratulate Jeremy McGrath and Cole Siebler for dominating the 450 and 250 Pro Classes, respectively, this past weekend at the first annual Powder Mountain Motocross. For taking the pro wins, both riders received an exclusive Rockwell 50 MM Gold valued at over $5,000. In fact, Rockwell riders took all three spots on the 450 Pro podium with McGrath taking the top spot followed by Siebler and Mike Sleeter. The event was more than successful as crowds turned out in numbers to watch the action. The track was extremely rough but the racing was great and the fans definitely enjoyed watching McGrath throw nac-nac’s over the giant 110-foot finish line triple. Rockwell Time wants to thank all the fans and riders who attended the event and hope to see everyone at next year’s race.

AMA Pro and KTM Test Rider Mike Sleeter Rockin’ Rockwell

Rockwell Time is proud to welcome AMA Pro, KTM factory tester, and all around nice guy, Mike Sleeter to the crew. Not only is Sleeter an extremely talented rider, but he is also a big reason why KTM’s are the fastest bikes on the track. Mike does much of the R&D work and testing for KTM while also competing on the AMA circuit. If that’s not enough, Mike is running his own business, Haven Sports Management. Mike put in some strong rides at the first annual Powder Mountain Motocross in Utah, proving he can run with the best as he kept McGrath honest all weekend. Rockwell again wants to thank Mike and don’t miss the Sleetdawg rockin’ his CF.

10 Things to Watch For at Steel City

Courtesy of Alli Sports

We’ve had two mud races in a row and some very surprising results in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. Now we’re at the finish line on the outskirts of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for the 12th and final round of the tour, and it’s going to be a bright and sunny day of racing here at Steel City Raceway. You can watch the first motos live right here on Allisports.com, beginning at 1 p.m. ET. You can also catch the second moto of the 250 class at midnight Saturday, as SPEED TV shows you same-day coverage of the championship battle between Ryan Dungey and Christophe Pourcel. (The second 450 moto will show on noon Sunday, ET.)

Here are 10 things to watch for as the season comes to its exciting conclusion:

1.) Chad Reed will wear #1

Last weekend may not have gone Reed’s way at Southwick, where he won the first moto with ease, then crashed out of race two while leading. But the Rockstar/Makita Suzuki rider is back in the saddle, and he’s asked to wear the #1 he already clinched as the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Champion. The thing is, this may be the only time Reed gets to wear his AMA Motocross #1 on the Suzuki, as he’s said to be on the open market for a new ride in 2010. No matter, he can wear #1 with pride, as the Australian was the toughest, most consistent man on the circuit all series long.

2.) Dungey vs. Pourcel

The 250 class is still up for grabs, though the upper hand is Dungey’s right now. Pourcel and his Pro Circuit Kawasaki team had a disastrous day in New England last weekend as his bike broke in one moto and then he crashed on the start of the second moto, while Dungey went 2-4 for second overall on his Suzuki. Add it all up and it was a 30-point swing in Dungey’s favor, which meant Pourcel went from 13 points up to 17 down. That’s a large chunk to pull back in two motos, but stranger things have happened at Steel City—just ask Grant Langston or Mike LaRocco!

3.) Pink is coming to Steel City!

Okay, not Carey Hart’s wife Pink, but rather the color pink, as Steel City is part of the Race For the Cure, part of the Philadelphia Three-Day Breast Cancer Awareness program, and pink ribbons will be on the track and maybe even some pink gear and side panels and other points of flair on the riders and teams. To donate and be a part of it, click here.

4.) The job search is on

The biggest question in the pits right now is this one: Who will have a job in 2010? With the economy causing many teams to make cuts, a lot of riders and mechanics are not quite sure where they will be hanging their hats in 2010. And that usually means there will be a lot of riders desperate to get an impressive result here in the last round of the series. Among the biggest names still unsigned are Reed, Ivan Tedesco, Jake Weimer, Michael Byrne, Justin Brayton…. There are actually too many to list!

5.) Ashley is going for her second title

The Women’s Motocross Championship will also be decided at Steel City as Ashley Fiolek of Honda Red Bull Racing tries to hold off the late-charging Jessica Patterson in this division. Fiolek is the defending champion, but Patterson has won the last two rounds of the series. Is it too little, too late? We will see on Saturday.

6.) Can Matt Goerke pull off another shocker?

When the final results were tallied last weekend at Southwick, it was a shock to many in the sport to see Team Yamaha replacement rider Matt Goerke’s name at the top of the 450-class results with 6-1 moto scores. Goerke has always had the talent and desire, but he never seemed to get the breaks. Now his name is in the AMA Motocross record books as an overall winner, which can be a serious shot of confidence for anyone. Can he do it again? Southwick was a sand track, and Goerke hails from Florida, which has lots and lots of sand. But there’s not so much here in the Keystone State. Still, good starts and smart moves and Matt could very easily end up on the podium again.

7.) Tyla and Tommy both want to win

When the 2009 season started, many thought incoming Grand Prix talents Tyla Rattray and Tommy Searle—#1 and #2 in last year’s final rankings over in Europe—would be title contenders on the highly competitive AMA circuit, but it’s been a tough summer for both. But last weekend, Rattray, who missed six weeks with a broken thumb, was solid in the sand, winning the second moto going away. Searle had a tougher go of it, but he would also like to close with a taste of victory. Steel City is their last chance to claim a win in 2010.

8.) Metty and Burner are long overdue

With all of the new winners we’ve seen in 2010—six first-time 450 National winners and three in the 250 class—two names absent but long overdue from the list are Australian imports Brett Metcalfe and Michael Byrne. Both have come close—Byrne tied Goerke for the overall in points last Saturday but lost on the second-moto tiebreaker—and both are riding better than ever. Don’t be surprised to see it happen tomorrow for one of them.

9.) Barcia delivers

That list of first-time winners now includes Justin Barcia, the precocious rookie on the GEICO Powersports Honda team who rode fantastic last weekend in Southwick to earn his first pro win. Barcia even got caught in the gate at the start of the second moto and still came back to finish third, which, combined with his first moto win, was good enough for the overall. Barcia is familiar with the Steel City track—he’s originally from next-door New York—and would like nothing more than to build on what he started last weekend. With several tricky new jump combos thrown in by track designer Marc Peters, the jump-happy Barcia will be right at home tomorrow on his CRF250R.

10.) Kyle Regal deserves a podium

Last but not least is Valli Motorsports Yamaha’s Kyle Regal, the sensational 450-class rookie who has been close to getting on the podium several times now since switching to his new team. Regal has been a pleasant surprise on the tour, and if anyone in that class deserves to step up on the box for the last race, it’s this hardworking newcomer. Keep an eye out for #475!

Stay tuned to Allisports.com for the Racer X Pre-Race Motocross Show, as well as the live feeds, live timing and scoring, and more, all coming to you from Steel City Raceway.

Dungey and Fiolek Look to Wrap Up Titles at Steel City

Courtesy of Alli Sports

The final Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship race of the 2009 season will unfold this Saturday as the American Motocross Festival heads to Delmont, Pa. and Steel City Raceway. The event will bring the summer outdoor series to an exciting conclusion over the Labor Day weekend.

With the 450 Class championship already secured by Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki's Chad Reed, the remaining battles for the championships will come down to the 250 and Women's Motocross (WMX) classes with Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki's Ryan Dungey and Honda Red Bull Racing's Ashley Fiolek leading the way.

Last year, the inaugural American Motocross Festival presented stellar racing from all three classes and thanks to its success, it returns for 2009 as part of the championship weekend of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. Additionally, SPEED will showcase the 250 Class battle as it goes down to the wire with same-day coverage beginning at midnight ET.

Last weekend at Moto-X 338 in Southwick, Mass., the series saw two first-time winners in the 450 and 250 classes. Yamaha's Matt Goerke used 6-1 finishes to edge runner-up Michael Byrne by virtue of a second moto tiebreaker for his inaugural 450 Class win while Southwick legend John Dowd came out of retirement at the age of 44 to compete against the world's top riders, scoring an impressive third place finish. For Reed, his early securing of the premier class title worked in his favor as he finished eighth overall after winning the opening moto and crashing out of the lead in the final moto. Despite some bumps and bruises, the Australian star will be eager to rebound this weekend and finish the season on a high note.

GEICO Powersports Honda's rookie speedster Justin Barcia finally broke through for his first career professional motocross victory in the 250 Class, overcoming adversity in each moto and showcasing his stellar speed that has made him a breakthrough story of 2009. Heading into Southwick, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Christophe Pourcel led the 250 Class championship by 13 points over Dungey. However, the unpredictable nature of motocross rang true as a 30-point swing between the duo left Pourcel with his worst finish of the season in 18th, his first off the podium, as well as a 17-point deficit to Dungey, who finished fourth. The international pairing has put on a racing showcase throughout the season, trading points, momentum and wins throughout the 11 races in arguably one of the most memorable and tightly-contested title fights in the history of the sport. If last weekend was any indication, this title is still far from over with two motos remaining.

When the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship concluded last season at Steel City, James Stewart made history as he reeled off his 23rd and 24th consecutive moto wins, sweeping every moto in 2008. Stewart became just the second rider in history to achieve a perfect season, joining the Greatest of All-Time (G.O.A.T.) Ricky Carmichael.

Dungey is no stranger to winning at Steel City and he hopes that will play into his favor on Saturday. Last year, he swept both motos for the first time in his career en route to claiming three wins in the final four races of the season.

Jessica Patterson kept current WMX Class points leader Ashley Fiolek at bay in Southwick, winning both motos and preventing Fiolek from clinching her second title. However, the 18-year old rider still carries a 41-point lead over her five-time champion rival and sits in a good position to wrap things up this weekend.

In support of the American Motocross Festival, MX Sports Pro Racing introduces the second annual Race to Cure Breast Cancer. Fans, riders and teams are all encouraged to immerge themselves in the PINK theme while several additional opportunities to show support will be available, highlighted by a mystery rider auction featuring Dungey and Fiolek along with Andrew Short and Ryan Villopoto. All proceeds from the fundraiser go towards the Philadelphia Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk while net proceeds support the combined efforts of the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) Breast Cancer Fund.

On Friday, Steel City Raceway presents the Monster Energy Fan Fest featuring JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha and Factory Yamaha. Team riders, along with several stars of the WMX Class, will be on hand to sign autographs and mingle with the fans while a variety of other activities are scheduled, including a trials demonstration by legend Geoff Aaron.
