Webb, Carmichael to Lead Rockstar Makita Suzuki

Off-road racing legend Mike Webb will be leading Rockstar Makita Suzuki's 2011 Championship efforts as Team Manager for both the AMA Supercross and AMA Pro Motocross series with support from Ricky Carmichael.

Webb has been a staple in off-road racing for nearly three decades and is currently at the helm of the 2010 GNCC off-road team as they take the Suzuki fuel-injected RM-Z450 towards the Championship title. In his storied history, Webb has helped Suzuki earn countless Championships in off-road racing and has been the Team Manager for the GNCC bike efforts since 1992.

"I'm really excited for this opportunity to help defend the AMA Supercross and Motocross titles that Ryan Dungey so masterfully won this year," Webb said. "I'm thrilled to be working with the team and Yoshimura, as we're all fully committed to keeping that Number One plate on the RM-Z450. I think 2011 is going to be a great season for us, for Suzuki, and for the RM-Z450."

To help spur the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team to another Championship-winning year in 2011, Webb has also secured the efforts of Ricky Carmichael as team adviser. Carmichael has a long history with Suzuki, as well, and is considered one of the greatest racers of all time in Supercross and Motocross. Carmichael will be helping the current Rockstar Makita Suzuki racers to fully-prepare for competition and advising them on bike set-up, race strategy and overall training approaches.

Said Webb: "Ricky is an undisputable Champion. I can't think of a better guy to help the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team to another winning season and I know the racers will all benefit from having him on our side."

With Webb and Carmichael at the helm of the Rockstar Makita Suzuki Supercross and Motocross team, Suzuki is looking forward to another phenomenal year at the races with their winning RM-Z450 in 2011.

Brea, Calif. – August 30, 2010 – History has been made. Ryan Dungey is the 2010 AMA Pro Motocross Champion, securing his second title of the year this weekend at Southwick MX in Massachusetts. The 20-year-old rookie has gained enough points in the series with his complete domination of the 450 motocross class to take home the trophy with two races still left on the schedule. Dungey claimed the 2010 AMA Supercross title in May, making him the youngest rookie racer ever to do so, and now has added the Pro Motocross championship to his list of accomplishments, making him the only rookie ever to clinch both titles. Dungey has been unstoppable on his Suzuki fuel-injected RM-Z450 and has taken home the win in the past nine races in a row and won 16 out of 20 motos

"What Ryan has done, no one has ever done before including McGrath, Stewart, Carmichael," Team Manager Roger DeCoster said. "No one has ever won both the Supercross and a National Championship back to back as a rookie. It's pretty impressive. Sometimes, because Ryan is such a subdued nice guy, you don’t really realize what a big thing that he has done. I expect more and more perfection, but you look back and see that he is doing things that no one has ever done before – it's pretty impressive."

Dungey went into Southwick focused on racing his best race, like always. He lined up at the gate determined to give his best performance on the sandy, technical track in Massachusetts, and at the start of moto 1, Dungey started near the front of the pack. He moved into second place and stayed there most of the race. During the last lap, Dungey was battling for the lead when the opportunity to move up presented itself. Dungey and his RM-Z450 took the lead with less than a lap to go and took the win.

With the championship in view, Dungey lined up for moto 2 focused on finishing strong again. Dungey moved into the lead early in the race and by the time the checkered flag flew, he was more than 24 seconds ahead of second place. Dungey clinched the title by ending the day 151 points ahead of second place with only two races left on the schedule.

"This feels great," Dungey said after the race. "It’s a lot of hard work and a lot of long weeks in the off season to prepare for this, but its all the better when you pull it off and win the championship. It's not all me, everyone on the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team put in 110 percent into everything they do and that’s all I could ever ask. We work well together and enjoy working together at the same time. It makes it fun."

Dungey has made history winning a total of four national titles in the past two years. Ryan won two titles in 2009, the AMA Supercross Western Regional Lites and the 250 Motocross championships, both on the RM-Z250, as well as being the hero of Team USA at the Motocross of Nations in Italy. Now with the 2010 Supercross and the Motocross title in his possession, Dungey was named the captain of Team USA and hopes to keep the Motocross of Nations championship in the U.S.

The next AMA Pro Motocross race takes place at Steel City in Delmont, PA, on September 4th. Dungey, despite having clinched the title, will be focused on battling for the lead there.

Ian Trettle to Compete Last 3 Nationals

New Berlin, NY – The Rockstar Energy Unadilla National drew fans from all over to watch racers Tommy Hahn, Hunter Hewitt, and newcomer to the Rockstar Energy Suzuki fold Austin Howell battle it out with the other competitors at the historic Unadilla track. The tack conditions were nearly perfect, and the race offered fans plenty of excitement as the racers worked their way around the difficult and technical course.

Tommy Hahn earned a hard-fought top-ten finish in the 450 class after going 10-11 in his motos. Hahn rode hard, but was visibly running out of steam by the end of each moto due to difficulties with his flight into the area that left him exhausted when it came time to race. "I didn't get to the hotel until about one in the morning, so I didn't have much energy all day," said Hahn. "We'll have to come back at Southwick and show everyone what I've got." Tommy named Southwick one of his favorite tracks on the circuit, so watch for him to put down some very fast laps aboard his Suzuki RM-Z450.

Making his professional debut in the 450 class was Austin Howell, who was racing at the Loretta Lynn's Amateur Nationals just a week before the Unadilla National. The young California native put in a hard charge, and turned in impressive 18-15 scores to take 18th overall in his first race as a pro.

Hunter Hewitt struggled in the hotly contested 250 class, finishing 37th in moto 1 and 22nd in moto 2. Like Hahn, Hunter is hoping to improve on his results at the upcoming race in Southwick.

Moto-X 338 in Southwick, MA, is the next destination on the 2010 AMA Pro Motocross Championship calendar, and the Rockstar Energy Suzuki riders are all looking forward racing at the notoriously difficult and physically demanding track. The race will take place on Saturday, August 28th. The Suzuki RM-Z machines and the Rockstar Energy Suzuki riders are set to battle!

Millville Race Report...Rockstar Energy Suzuki

Millville, Minnesota – The Rockstar Energy Suzuki team had a promising day of racing on Saturday at Spring Creek in Millville, Minnesota. With most of the team’s roster out with injuries, three racers took to the track at Round 7 of the AMA Pro Motocross series. Tommy Hahn, the team’s star 450-class racer, came back from a foot injury sustained at Round 5 and was ready to show that he’s one of the racers to watch in the premier class.

Hahn put together a great race in moto 1. Battling his injury, the excessive heat and humidity, and the other racers, Hahn got a mid-pack start and powered through the field to a sixth-place finish. Picking riders off right and left, Hahn was impressive on the track. "My bike setup was so good today. The bike is just awesome," Hahn said after the race. "I started the first moto mid-pack and worked up to sixth. I was happy with that."

Knowing he has the power and the speed to be a front-runner in the class, Hahn set his sights on the second moto. As the gate dropped for the second time in the 450 class, Hahn worked his way toward the front of the pack again by picking off riders and selecting the best lines on the track. He was in third and looking like he was going to move into second place when a punctured tire hampered his efforts. On the next lap, Tommy was forced into the mechanic’s area to replace the tire. By the time he got back into the race, he was no longer in the top 20. Although the end of the moto was disappointing, Hahn walked away knowing he has the skill and talent to run up front of the highly competitive class.

"In the second moto, I just put my head down and focused. I was trying to be smooth and fast, and it worked," Hahn said. "I was making good progress until I got a flat front. I had the podium wrapped up, but there’s nothing I can do about it now. I just have to focus on next week. I have the speed to be up there, and the work I’m doing at home is good, and I hope everyone sees that through the bad luck I’ve been having lately."

Jarred Browne, who’s filling in for the injured Jake Moss, took the team’s other RM-Z450 onto the track at Spring Creek. While his first moto was over before it began as he was held at the line until he was able to install the mandatory "Eject" safety device in his helmet, he concentrated on making up for it in the second race. He managed to stay on the right side of mid-pack for the entire moto and finished 16th, putting him in 20th overall for the day. In the 250 class, Chris Johnson filled in for the team. He finished inside the top 20 in the first moto but succumbed to bad luck in moto 2 where he finished 36th.

DUNGEY DOMINATES FREESTONE AMA MOTOCROSS

World Supercross Champion Ryan Dungey dominated both motos at the weekend's second round of the AMA Motocross Championship at Freestone Raceway in Wortham, Texas in scorching conditions - and moved to second place in the series.

The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider took victory in both races as team mate Matt Moss - his wrist still sore from being landed on in the opening round at Hangtown - had a tough day, managing a 34-20 finish for 24th overall.

Anxious to improve on his Hangtown results, Dungey secured a good first moto start near the front. He then quickly made his way to the front, taking the lead on lap seven. As the heat and humidity intensified, however, Dungey and the Rockstar Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 held strong at the front, crossing the finish line well ahead of second place and taking his first moto win in the 450 class.

"We put in our work the last couple of weeks; actually, it goes all the way back to after the Vegas Supercross, really," Dungey said after the race. "I admit we didn't have a good race at Hangtown, but we kept after it as a team and pulled through in some pretty tough conditions in Texas. We know each other very well after four-plus years together and you could say we drew on our experience to win this overall. This was a team win."

The second moto saw considerably more treacherous conditions: The Freestone track had become much rougher and the 100-degree heat had yet to back off. For Dungey, however, it was just another race to win. Dungey started near the front and once again moved into the lead early on and never looked back. Dungey made it look easy aboard his Rockstar Makita Suzuki RM-Z450, stretching out another sizable lead on his way to his first 1-1 overall finish. For Moss, the second moto was an improvement, as he was able to finish 20th on the tough track with an injured wrist. His efforts were good enough for 24th overall.

"I had bad luck in the first race with a crash, but in the second moto I got a great start and my bike was working great," Moss said. "I just struggled with the heat and my wrist, but I do feel like I'm getting better. Next weekend will be good. I have seen the track and it's the sort of track that I like, so I can't wait to get there and get a good result."

Added Dungey: "My bike was a big advantage today. The power delivery is very controllable and on a rough track like this and it made it easier to be smooth and find good lines. My team really worked hard to get the setup right, and I can't say enough about them and the bike."

With the win, Dungey moves up to second place in the Championship. The next stop of the series is June 12th at Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania, for the Rockstar Energy High Point National.

Rockstar/Canide Pet Foods Las Vegas Race Report

Las Vegas, NV – May 11th, 2010 – The 2010 AMA/FIM Supercross series came to a close Saturday night with a spectacular display of racing action at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium. The Rockstar Energy Suzuki team came through with a solid finish to a rollercoaster season, with Tommy Hahn cementing his status as the top pro privateer in the 450 class. "Taking the top privateer award was the high point of the weekend for me," said Hahn. "It’s back to the drawing board now, and hopefully I can do even better next season!"

Lites class teammates Ryan Morais and Hunter Hewitt competed in the annual East/West Shootout, the final Lites race of the year that pits the Eastern and Western division Lites riders against one another, and they put in some of their best rides all year. Ryan Morais suffered some minor injuries to his shoulder and hip in a crash during practice, but he continued to race hard and placed 3rd in his heat, and 9th in the main despite his injuries.

Meanwhile, Hunter Hewitt got off to a great start in both his heat race and the main event aboard his Suzuki RM-Z250. "My starts were dialed-in all weekend," said Hewitt. "I spent a lot of hours working on them at the practice track, and getting the holeshot was all I was thinking about." Hunter went on to take sixth in his heat race, and took twelfth in the main. "I have to thank the Rockstar Energy Suzuki team for everything they’ve done this year. Suzukis are just the best motorcycles out there!"

Now that the Supercross season is over, the focus shifts to the outdoors, slated to kick off at Hangtown in Sacramento, CA, on May 22nd. The team has been doing a lot of testing, and the riders have been putting in plenty of time at the practice track in order to prepare for the upcoming Motocross season. For the 2010 season, Tommy Hahn will be joined by teammate Jake Moss in the 450 class, while Ryan Morais, Blake Baggett, and Hunter Hewitt will all be competing in the Lites class aboard the RM-Z250. "We’ve done a lot of testing already, and we still have a lot more to do between now and the start of the season," said Team Manager Bill Keefe. "We’re really looking forward to racing the Outdoors this year."

Seattle, WA – April 26, 2010 – Rockstar Energy Suzuki returned to the West coast in a big way at the AMA Supercross race on Saturday night in Seattle, with 450-class rider Tommy Hahn racing his way to a season-best second-place finish. “It was a great night for me,” said Hahn. “I was feeling really comfortable all day, got in some good practice laps, got a good start in the main, and fought hard all the way through to the end.”

The track conditions were muddy and soft, which lead to some deep ruts and a track surface that was different every lap. While the soft dirt gave many riders trouble, Hahn didn’t struggle on his RM-Z450. “The track was pretty tough, but I like those kinds of conditions,” commented Hahn. “I felt right at home.” The RM-Z’s sharp handling helped Tommy carefully pick the fastest lines through the difficult track, and got great drives down the straights thanks to the powerful engine.

Tommy’s ride also made an impression on Team Manager Bill Keefe, who said, “Tommy rode like he owned it. We’re really proud of his performance in Seattle, and look forward to building on this momentum in Salt Lake!”

The race in Seattle marked the return of the riders Ryan Morais and Hunter Hewitt in the Western Regional Lites class, and both raced hard on the tough track. Morais got off to a strong start in the main, and rode well despite the difficult conditions. “I felt more like I was on an Endurocross track than a Supercross track,” said Morais. “The dirt was super soft and rutted out, but my RM-Z250 had the power to give me the good drives that I needed.” Morais went on to finish just inside the top five, while Hewitt rounded out the top ten.

The next round of the AMA/FIM Supercross championship will take place on May 1 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah. Suzuki Supercross fans should head to Suzuki of Salt Lake on Friday night where the Rockstar Energy Suzuki team will be signing autographs from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M.

Rockstar Makita Suzuki Riders Podium in Jacksonville

Jacksonville, Florida – Some of the best dirt of the series is found at the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars. This year, the dirt and the layout at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium were both excellent and a great night of racing was had for the fans and Rockstar Makita Suzuki riders Ryan Dungey (#5) and Austin Stroupe (#45).

In the Eastern Regional Lites class heat race, Austin Stroupe’s RM-Z250 powered him up into second before the end of lap one. On lap two, Stroupe moved into the lead and instantly pulled a sizeable gap for the win.

In the first 450cc Supercross heat race, Dungey got a fourth place start but passed up to second by the end of lap one. Although he closed down the gap on the leader of the heat, he was unable to pull off the win.

With the heats out of the way, it was time for the main event action. Dungey, having almost a full race points lead, was out to add even more. Stroupe, sitting five points out of championship lead in second, was looking to get a win and be the leader of the Lites pack.

Austin got a second-place start. By lap four, the top three riders were bunched up. While attempting to pass the leader, the leader bobbled and Austin collided with him briefly. This allowed the third place rider to pass both of them. The next lap Stroupe passed back into second and started the tough job of trying to close down the gap to the leader. In spite of closing up to within one second, it was not to be and Austin had to settle for another second place. The good news is that he is still right there in the points hunt.

"I had a good start and got into second but Pourcel got past me and I tried to make a charge for the lead but couldn't," Stroupe explained. "It was a good night though, winning my heat race and getting on the podium."

At the start of the Supercross Main, Dungey's Suzuki RM-Z450 came out of the gate in fourth, bobbled and ended up fifth. After some solid racing, Dungey slowly closed in on second place, while the top three riders slowly started to form a group. About midway through the race, Ryan caught and passed second. At the checkers, Ryan had to settle for second but still enjoys a commanding points lead.

“I went in to pass Windham, and my front end tucked a little,” Dungey said. “We made some contact and I lost a ton of time. I finally passed him a few laps later, but by then it was a long way up to the lead. I rode hard, but tonight we’ll just have to settle for second."

Roger DeCoster reflected on the evening after the race. "Of course, it would have been better to win. All of the fast guys in front of him, and when he got up to Windham he tried to make a pass and tangled a little with him a little and tweaked the front end. Then the bike was twisted in the front and that made him make more mistakes. Once that happened, I was happy with second. Austin did a really good job, especially considering that he has some tweaked thumb ligaments from his crash on the start last week. So with a sprained thumb, to finish a close second was good."

The series takes a break next weekend, and then picks up the action in Houston on April 10th.

Catanzaro Wins Lites Western Regional Title for GPF Championship Sweep

DENVER, Colo. (March 26, 2010) – It was a night of champions inside the Denver Coliseum as night one of the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series finale from Denver crowned a pair of champions in both the AMA Arenacross class and the AMA Arenacross Lites Western Regional Championship. In the premier class, it was Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLUBE Kawasaki’s Josh Demuth, of North Richland Hills, Texas, capturing his sixth win of the season en route to claiming his third AMA Arenacross Series title. A first-time winner stood atop the podium in the Western Regional Championship, but it was GPF/Babbitt’s Kawasaki rookie A.J. Catanzaro, of Middlefield, Conn., who relied on a runner-up effort to secure his first-career championship.

As the gates dropped on the AMA Arenacross class main event, it would be a battle between Babbitt’s teammates and close friends Demuth and Chad Johnson, of Rhinelander, Wis., to determine the outcome of the 2010 title. Coming into the race, Demuth held a 22-point lead over his teammate, putting Johnson in a must-win situation in order to stay alive in the title hunt heading into Saturday night’s final race.

Tuf Honda’s Heath Voss, of Mico, Texas, took advantage of the opportunity to compete on one of the series’ best rides, grabbing the holeshot and the early lead. As the 25-lap main event approached the halfway point, Voss looked to have things in control but tipped over heading into the rhythm section. Demuth was able to take advantage of Voss’ misfortune and led the rest of the way while Triple Effect Kawasaki’s Gray Davenport, of Lehi, Utah, kept him honest with a runner-up effort. Voss recovered to rebound third.

With a healthy 20-point lead over his closest competitor, Catanzaro could take a conservative approach to the 18-lap main event. U Motors Honda’s Tanner Redimann, of Bismarck, N.D., grabbed the holeshot off the gate and went on to dominate the remainder of the race, leading every lap for his first-career arenacross victory. Catanzaro’s runner-up effort was enough to take the Western Regional Championship while Gnarbars/Colorado Powersports Honda’s Kyle Calderini, of Colorado Springs, Colo., finished third in front of his hometown crowd.

The 19^th and final race of the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series kicks-off tomorrow night from the Denver Coliseum, beginning at 7 p.m. MT.

Chris Borich and his Suzuki QuadRacer R450 took the top spot on the podium at the third round of the GNCC series this weekend at Steele Creek in Morganton, North Carolina - and now leads the series on 85 points.

The win is Borich’s second of the season and the defending 2009 GNCC ATV champion is on track to have another winning season on his Suzuki.

Borich ran in third for most of the two-hour-long race, making his winning pass on the last lap of the 11.2-mile course. Said Borich: “My Quad worked awesome all day. I sat back and waited for people to make mistakes because it was basically a one-line track. I was able to capitalise and come in with a victory. Everything is going good this year and I have basically the same set-up as last year when I won the Championship. So we’re going to keep getting that Yoshimura Suzuki back on the podium.”

Round 4 of the GNCC series takes place at Union, South Carolina on April 10-11.

Double Podium for Suzuki at Toronto SX

Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey continues to lead the AMA/ FIM Supercross Championship after racing to second place in Saturday night’s 10th round at Toronto in Canada, while team-mate Austin Stroupe raced to second in the Lites class, which puts him just seven points away from the top of the series.

In the second Lites heat race, front-runner Stroupe grabbed second at the start with his fuel-injected Suzuki RM-Z250. However, on the first lap, he broke through a berm and dropped to third. By the end of lap one, Stroupe had pushed ahead into second and by lap two he moved up into first and pulled away to a commanding win.

The second Supercross heat race featured Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider and series points leader Dungey, who pulled the holeshot with his Suzuki RM-Z450 and quickly put the hammer down and pulled away from the pack. By the end of the race, Dungey had a dominating 25-second lead at the flag.

Starting with the Lites Main, Stroupe found himself with a top-three start and by the end of lap one had settled into second place. Although he kept eventual winner Justin Barcia close, Stroupe was not able to make a pass and owned second place once again. Toronto marks Stroupe's fourth straight podium finish and saw him close to within seven points of the overall lead.

Stroupe was not happy with second, but was looking at the big picture. “I’m really disappointed that I didn’t get the win, but I rode well and it was nice to close in on the points lead,” he said. “I’m still looking for wins though; not seconds.”

The start of the Supercross Main was tight with Dungey coming out in third position. He had a hard time getting around Trey Canard but after a few laps in third he finally passed him, but the gap to first was over seven seconds and Dungey had his work cut out and at the flag, had closed the gap considerably, but it was not enough and second place was as good as it would get.

Dungey still enjoys a large points lead and is looking forward to the next race in Texas. “I always want to get the win, but we have a great team and will just keep working hard and trying to improve. We are going to be strong in Texas and hope to get back on the top spot by then,” said Dungey.

Ryan Morais - filling in for injured Matt Moss - took a nasty spill in his timed practice session. After much discussion, it was recommended that he sit out the evening program as he was too sore to be effective.

2010 MOTOCROSS CONTINGENCY PROGRAM

BORICH WINS GNCC ATV OPENER

Reigning GNCC ATV Champion Chris Borich clinched the opening round of the Parts Unlimited River Ranch GNCC in Florida at the weekend.

Borich and his Suzuki QuadRacer R450 were the favourites going into the race, and after coming form behind to take the win, he showed the XC1 class that he’s ready to dominate again in 2010.

Borich started the race in fifth place. His smart, calculated moves put him in second place, and at the end of the race he passed for first place and took the win more than a second ahead of second place.

“It feels good to get the first one out of the way,” said Borich. “I knew it was going to be a rough track and I just paced myself and then made my move. I just let the track come to me and everyone made little mistakes and I was able to take advantage of it. I pretty much made my moves around the mud holes and anywhere else I could find.”

Borich and his QuadRacer R450 will be at round 2 of the series, which takes place on March 6 and 7 in Washington, Georgia.

The second major International event of the European motocross calendar occurred under bright but cloudy conditions at the hard-pack and slippery Valence circuit in France, south of Lyon and Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2’s Ken Roczen won the MX2 class with 3rd and 1st positions in the two motos, before scoring 10th in the Superfinal that saw a mix of 450 and 250 machinery.

Roczen took his works RM-Z250 to the top of the podium for his first attempt at the Valence meeting and for the first time in 2010 as Teka Suzuki World MX1’s Steve Ramon was third overall on his RM-Z450 in the MX1 division.

Still using the pre-season meetings as chances for testing and training, Roczen, and team-mate Arnaud Tonus, ran plenty of laps in the practice sessions and steadily worked on their speed at a chilly Valence. The teenage German, the sensation of the 2009 FIM MX2 World Championship, was consistently one of the top three fastest on race day. He rode to 3rd in the first race before carefully picking his lines and beating World Champion Marvin Musquin in the second. He was the third highest-ranked MX2 rider in the Superfinal.

“I am happy because I did not come here expecting to win and had also felt sick last week which meant that I could not ride much; the weather hadn’t helped us either,” the 15 year old said. “Both the bike and I are on a good level, not the level we want for Bulgaria and the first Grand Prix but we are on the way. We used this meeting for further mileage and training and it went well. It is good to see we are pretty competitive already.”

Steve Ramon rode to 12th, 2nd and 2nd in the sprints and led for a section of the last moto. The Belgian weathered some difficult moments with arm-pump in the formative stages but emerged with a podium finish for his efforts. “I am quite pleased with the result because I suffered a bit with arm-pump again during the Timed Practice and also the first moto,” said Ramon. “My start was not great for the first race and I found I could not really push, so I rode my own speed. We made a change to the bike for the second moto and I was riding a bit more relaxed and could find a better rhythm. The last race was the best for me. I started in the top five and was leading for a while until Cairoli came through. I could stay on his wheel until the finish, so I was happy with that at this stage in the year.”

Team-mate on the factory RM-Z450, Clement Desalle, had an eventful day. The Belgian champion, in his second appearance in Teka colours, was 7th overall with a best finish of 3rd in Moto1. A poor opening phase of the next race meant he had to recover from the lower top ten to claim 5th and his event was prematurely ended in the Superfinal with two crashes. The second of which caused his retirement with a painful arm. “The first moto was the best, I took third. Then I was fifth in the next one after a start that was not so good,” commented Desalle. “In the last race I had the holeshot and was leading for two or three laps until I lost the front wheel in one of the corners. I recovered to the top five after five laps but the slippery track caught me again and I hurt my left arm. At the moment it seems to be nothing more than muscular pain. Hawkstone Park is next for me after some days testing in France.”

Tonus was pushing hard for positions in the second MX2 race after taking 10th at the first time of asking. The young Swiss rider made a mistake and lost two places and then was lucky to emerge relatively unscathed from a frightening looking accident only a few corners later.

The Teka Suzuki teams will remain in southern France for testing this week before attempting the Hawkstone Park International in England on March 7th.

ANAHEIM TOUGH FOR ROCKSTAR ENERGY SUZUKI

Rockstar Energy Suzuki hit Angel Stadium once again for the third Anaheim round of the AMA/FIM Supercross Series, hopeful of being back to racing at full strength with Ryan Morais rejoining team mate Hunter Hewitt in the Lites class and Tommy Hahn taking on the competition in the Supercross class.

But fate seemed to have other plans as Hahn fell ill the night before the race with a bad case of the flu, and Morais found himself still in great pain on Saturday from the injuries he sustained during his heat race at Anaheim 2.

With two of his team mates out for the night, the spotlight fell on Hewitt (pictured) in the Lites class: He was running a respectable sixth in the Main Event until another rider collided with him while turning onto the starting straight and knocked him over. “You have to watch your back when you’re running up front and that’s something I just wasn’t doing,” said Hewitt. “I was pretty mad about it, but that’s just part of racing and I did my best to keep going.”

The collision and resulting crash left Hewitt towards the back of the pack with his clutch lever bent out of position, but he continued to press on despite the damage and even without the use of his clutch, he managed to retake a few positions by the end of the race, placing 13th overall.

With the final Anaheim round finished, the series moves east for the first time to Indianapolis. Indy also marks the beginning of the Eastern Regional Lites Championship, which will bring in a whole new crop of Lites riders including Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Blake Baggett and Jake Moss. “Things are going to be very competitive in the East,”

Team Manager Bill Keefe said. “There are a lot of fast riders out there, but Blake and Jake have put in a lot of hard work and we expect great things from them.”

MORAIS SET FOR ANAHEIM SUPERCROSS RETURN

Rockstar Energy Suzuki rider Ryan Morais is preparing for his return to racing in the Western Regional Lites class at this Saturday’s AMA/ FIM Supercross sixth round at Anaheim, California.

Morais had to take some time away from racing after a crash in his heat race at Anaheim 2 resulted in several injuries, including some deep bruising to his kidneys, lungs and the surrounding muscle fibres. After participating in an aggressive rehab program for the past two weeks, he is fit enough to train with the team again and remounted his RM-Z250 this week to get in some solid laps on the practice track.

“Ryan’s times were very good, and he looked comfortable on the bike; like he’d never taken any time off,” said Team Manager Bill Keefe. “We are excited that he is up to speed and ready to race at Anaheim 3.”
