2011 National Motocross Series Announced

After a highly successful and historic season of competition, MX Sports Pro Racing presents the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship schedule.
The 2011 American Motocross schedule will consist of 12 rounds, with locations from California to New England. The series includes the best motocross riders from across the globe and is recognized as the most prestigious motocross championship on the planet.
The 2011 season kicks off on Saturday, May 21 with the historic Hangtown Motocross Classic, which is held at the Prairie City Off-Highway Vehicle Park in Sacramento, Calif. The series will once again travel the country and conclude on Saturday, September 10, at Pala Raceway, which is just north of San Diego.
“We’re fortunate to boast the best motocross facilities in the world in the Lucas Oil Motocross Championship,” said MX Sports Vice President Davey Coombs. “Several of our tracks have hosted national events for nearly four decades, including such legendary race tracks as RedBud, Unadilla, High Point and more, while our newer facilities present the vision of the future for American Motocross. The 2011 season – which will be the 40th year of this tour – is going to be another epic chapter in American Motocross.
“We have also been exploring several new facilities in the Southeast,” added Coombs. “The area is one of the most popular regions of the country for off-road motorcycles, and it is the hope of MX Sports that we will be able to announce a new addition to the schedule for 2012.”
Each stop of the 12-round championship will showcase the premier 450 Class, featuring reigning national champion Ryan Dungey, along with the 250 Class, which will crown a new champion in 2011 with the graduation of 2010 title holder Trey Canard into the premier division.
Additionally, the MotorcycleUSA.com Women’s Motocross Championship will be included at eight rounds of the series – Hangtown, Freestone, Thunder Valley, RedBud, Spring Creek, Moto-X 338, Steel City, and Pala. Led by defending champion Jessica Patterson, who claimed her record sixth title last season, the nation’s fastest females will add to the excitement of the 2011 championship series.

XMS Series at Walden this Saturday

The new Xtreme Motocross Series (XMS) got off to a great start this year for its inaugural season in the Tri-state area, and will hold its series finale this Saturday at Walden Motocross Club in Walden, NY. Steel City Report: American Honda

Torrance CA: Honda Red Bull Racing’s Kevin Windham came out on top at round eleven of the AMA Motocross Championship at Steel City Raceway in Delmont, PA on Saturday, September 4, aboard his CRF450R. GEICO Powersports Honda’s Trey Canard made it a double victory for Honda by clinching the 250-class victory aboard his CRF250R.

 

Despite not competing in the premier 450 Motocross class for years, Windham showed that at 32 years of age he still has what it takes to win. In moto one the 16-year racing veteran battled for the lead with GEICO Powersports Honda’s Brett Metcalfe before taking control of the race and setting the stage for a Honda podium sweep. Windham came out on top, Metcalfe nabbed second and Troy Lee Design’s Ben Townley clinched third place aboard his CRF450R. In the second moto Windham moved into an early lead but relinquished a spot on lap four. The Honda racer held off a determined charge by Metcalfe once again to take the checkers in second place, which earned him the overall victory (1-2).

 

"This win is definitely up there with some of my greatest career moments and I’m stoked to have the opportunity to be out here racing," said Windham. "I’m learning to cherish each and every one of these moments with each passing year as I’m not getting any younger and you never know when the next opportunity will come again. The Honda Red Bull Racing team was awesome this weekend and I really had to work hard to keep Metcalfe honest in both motos."

 

The battle for second place in the championship got even hotter for Windham’s teammate Andrew Short, who came into Steel City with a three-point lead over Metcalfe in the series points standings. Short continued to rip off fast starts in both motos but his 4-5 moto results versus Metcalfe’s 2-3 tally saw the pair switch spots in the overall standings. Short’s hunt to regain second in the championship chase will be played out at the final round next weekend at Pala Raceway, CA.

 

Metcalfe’s 2-3 finishes at Steel City gave him second overall at the round. Despite suffering a broken nose during the first moto, Townley still finished third, but a first-turn pile-up in moto two took him out of the competition. Still his third place finish in moto one (plus a 37^th in moto two) gave him 10th overall.

 

In 250cc competition, Canard made a perfect sweep of both motos, pulling off a pair of flawless rides to score his fifth overall victory this season aboard his CRF250R. With just seven points separating Canard from the points leader with one round to go, his campaign toward winning his first-ever Motocross Championship will be decided at the final round next weekend. Teammate Eli Tomac had a good showing, going 4-5 aboard his CRF250R to finish just shy of the overall podium in fourth place. GEICO Powersports Honda’s Justin Barcia nabbed sixth (10-6) and Blake Wharton finished seventh (9-7) aboard his CRF250R while Wil Hahn got eighth (5-11) aboard his Troy Lee Designs Honda CRF250R. Rounding out the top ten, Honda privateer Darryn Durham went 8-10 to secure 10th overall.

 

In the Women’s Motocross Championship, Ashley Fiolek showed good speed from the get-go aboard her CRF250R, going 1-2 to take second overall for the round. In the opening moto, Fiolek grabbed the holeshot and went on to lead every lap of the race en route to taking victory. In moto two, she put in a solid chase for the lead that included a spectacular charge in the closing turns of the race. Unfortunately Fiolek went down with a turn to go but still managed to take the checkers in second spot to put her second overall. Tarah Gieger went 4-7 aboard her Troy Lee Designs Honda CRF250R for sixth overall.

Dungey 2010 National Champion

Brea, Calif. – August 30, 2010 – History has been made. Ryan Dungey is the 2010 AMA Pro Motocross Champion, securing his second title of the year this weekend at Southwick MX in Massachusetts. The 20-year-old rookie has gained enough points in the series with his complete domination of the 450 motocross class to take home the trophy with two races still left on the schedule. Dungey claimed the 2010 AMA Supercross title in May, making him the youngest rookie racer ever to do so, and now has added the Pro Motocross championship to his list of accomplishments, making him the only rookie ever to clinch both titles. Dungey has been unstoppable on his Suzuki fuel-injected RM-Z450 and has taken home the win in the past nine races in a row and won 16 out of 20 motos

"What Ryan has done, no one has ever done before including McGrath, Stewart, Carmichael," Team Manager Roger DeCoster said. "No one has ever won both the Supercross and a National Championship back to back as a rookie. It's pretty impressive. Sometimes, because Ryan is such a subdued nice guy, you don’t really realize what a big thing that he has done. I expect more and more perfection, but you look back and see that he is doing things that no one has ever done before – it's pretty impressive."

Dungey went into Southwick focused on racing his best race, like always. He lined up at the gate determined to give his best performance on the sandy, technical track in Massachusetts, and at the start of moto 1, Dungey started near the front of the pack. He moved into second place and stayed there most of the race. During the last lap, Dungey was battling for the lead when the opportunity to move up presented itself. Dungey and his RM-Z450 took the lead with less than a lap to go and took the win.

With the championship in view, Dungey lined up for moto 2 focused on finishing strong again. Dungey moved into the lead early in the race and by the time the checkered flag flew, he was more than 24 seconds ahead of second place. Dungey clinched the title by ending the day 151 points ahead of second place with only two races left on the schedule.

"This feels great," Dungey said after the race. "It’s a lot of hard work and a lot of long weeks in the off season to prepare for this, but its all the better when you pull it off and win the championship. It's not all me, everyone on the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team put in 110 percent into everything they do and that’s all I could ever ask. We work well together and enjoy working together at the same time. It makes it fun."

"The Suzuki family is ecstatic to add this championship to our trophy case," Rod Lopusnak, Suzuki’s National Sales Manager for the Motorcycle Division, said. "Looking back at the last year, it is hard to find one word other than ‘Champion’ to express what Ryan, the RM-Z450, and Team Rockstar Makita Suzuki have accomplished in their rookie season!"

"Congratulations to Ryan Dungey for his awesome, record-breaking rookie season!" Yoshimura R&D of America Vice President Don Sakakura said. "Ryan's courage, superior skills, and diligent conditioning were instrumental in his dominating motocross season, accomplishments which Ryan will surely cherish for a lifetime. His Suzuki RM-Z450 performed flawlessly all season long, and we must offer sincere appreciation to the Suzuki engineering team abroad, as well Roger DeCoster and his team of race technicians."

"It's been a perfect season; probably a season we will remember for the rest of our lives," DeCoster said. "It's never happened before – a rookie has never won back to back championships. Ryan has done it."

Dungey has made history winning a total of four national titles in the past two years. Ryan won two titles in 2009, the AMA Supercross Western Regional Lites and the 250 Motocross championships, both on the RM-Z250, as well as being the hero of Team USA at the Motocross of Nations in Italy. Now with the 2010 Supercross and the Motocross title in his possession, Dungey was named the captain of Team USA and hopes to keep the Motocross of Nations championship in the U.S.

The next AMA Pro Motocross race takes place at Steel City in Delmont, PA, on September 4th. Dungey, despite having clinched the title, will be focused on battling for the lead there.

Melting Pot of Motocross to Feature Post-Apocalyptic “dream track” designed by
James Stewart, Travis Pastrana, Ronnie Renner, David Knight and Geoff Aaron

Los Angeles, CA – August 10, 2010 – This October, the stars will align to create one of most unique and challenging tracks motocross has ever seen. Five of the world's best motocross athletes will come together to design and build a "dream track" blending several two-wheel off-road disciplines. The athletes - James Stewart, Travis Pastrana, Ronnie Renner, David Knight and Geoff Aaron - will bring to life a track that unites design elements from supercross, motocross, endurocross, freestyle and trials. Each of the five riders will contribute a portion to the total design, and the result will be a mash-up of everything they’ve always wanted to put into a race track, but were never allowed to do. This motocross melting pot will be known as Red Bull Metallicross, and will be held at the venerable Pala Raceway on Saturday, October 23.

With some of the best talent in motocross serving as designers, the track will definitely be revolutionary, but it will also have a theme to bump the excitement up a few more notches. As Red Bull Metallicross implies, it will not only feature top-level motocross action, but “metal” music as well. Rock and metal bands will perform on the track in-between each round of racing, and the event will culminate with a special performance by a top heavy metal group.

Red Bull Metallicross is open to pros and amateurs alike, but the track will not be for the faint of heart. The track will be as unforgiving as it will be revolutionary, and will feature: a nearly two story drop into the first turn; a 12-foot-high step-up; dirt-to-concrete whoops; a creek crossing; stretches of sand; a stair set made of railroad ties; explosions and geysers of flame. The racing format will also add some new wrinkles and twists to traditional racing. There will be several heat races, a last chance qualifier and wildcard elements that will keep the fans riveted to the action on the track and give every rider a true chance to prove themselves.

“When I was approached to help design a section of the Red Bull Metallicross track, I jumped all over it,” said Stewart. “I have always had some pretty crazy thoughts about obstacles and elements to a track. Now with this special event it gives me the blank canvas I need to put these crazy elements together. You can look forward to some wild stuff that will take each athlete's absolute best to navigate and survive.”

“Metallicross is going to be the raddest event ever. I'm pumped to be a part of something so revolutionary to the sport,” said Renner. “We have a chance to help design our own real life video game…this event is going to be all-time!”

Aspiring racers will have the chance to earn a spot in the main event during one of two regional qualifier events. The top 10 riders from each qualifier will move on and pit themselves against some of the best professionals in the world at the Red Bull Metallicross main event. Qualifiers will take place at the following locations:

September 25: E-Street MX, Riverfront Track, Sacramento, Calif.
October 2: Pala Raceway, Pala, Calif.

“Pala Raceway is honored to host Red Bull Metallicross, as we know from previous events how far Red Bull pushes the envelope,” said Ryan Ouellette, president MXMPI/Pala Raceway. “While we are in the middle of getting ready for the Pala National, we can hardly wait to begin construction on the course and progress the sport.”

WPS/Fly Racing Constructs On Site MX Test Track

In celebration of 50 years of doing business in the powersports industry, WPS and Fly Racing recently completed construction of an on site motocross test track and proving grounds at its Boise, Idaho headquarters. “We needed a more efficient way to test and develop Fly Racing products that allows us to gather instant feedback,” stated Craig Shoemaker, President and Owner of WPS and Fly Racing. “Having a motocross track right here at our Boise facility will not only enable us to develop new products easier and bring them to market quicker, it also allows us to conduct our own photo shoots on sight.”

Using a hands-on approach, Shoemaker, along with his brother Jamison (long time employee and resident photographer), logged countless hours on the company’s bulldozer and front-end loader, shaping and sculpting the track into a top-notch facility. In addition to its use as a test track, Shoemaker decided to pass along the benefits of an on sight motocross track to its employees through scheduled company ride days. “We’re a company that rides motorcycles and that’s filled with motocross enthusiasts, so we decided to give something back to our employees through scheduled track days. It’s been a huge hit and a lot of fun for our employees to ride dirt bikes together—not to mention a great way to build team spirit and morale. Ashley Fiolek Wins Back-To-Back X Games Gold

Torrance, CA: American Honda congratulates Honda Red Bull Racing’s Ashley Fiolek on winning the 2010 X Games Women’s Moto X Super X gold medal at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Thursday, July 29. Fiolek topped the competition just as she did last year to win back-to-back X Games gold.

Millions of X Games viewers worldwide watched Fiolek dominate the race by getting a good jump out of the start gate and racing her CRF250R into the number one spot on the opening lap. Setting the pace out front, Fiolek led every lap en route to clinching her second consecutive X Games gold. In addition, Troy Lee Designs Honda’s Tara Gieger took the silver medal making it a one-two finish for Honda at the hugely popular annual action sports event.

Red Bud Race Report...Honda

Torrance, CA: The Honda Red Riders took on round six of the 2010 AMA Motocross Championship and Women’s Motocross Championship at RedBud in Buchanan, MI on Saturday, July 3, and Honda Red Bull Racing’s Andrew Short made a solid run up front aboard his CRF450R while teammate Ashley Fiolek clinched her first overall victory of the season aboard her CRF250R. Another Honda racer to win at RedBud was GIECO Powersports Honda’s Trey Canard, who scored his first-ever 250cc motocross race win and overall victory.

Two-time women’s champion Fiolek had her best showing of the season, going 1-1 in the women’s competition to clinch her first overall victory this season. Grabbing the holeshot in both motos, Fiolek dominated both races to take the overall win. Fellow Honda racer Troy Lee Designs’ Tara Gieger joined Fiolek on the podium going 3-3 to end the round third overall.

Short got a good start in the first 450cc moto and was among the lead group from the get-go. Rounding the opening lap in the number two spot, Short put in a solid performance to eventually take the checkers in third place. In moto two he again fired off to a fine start and went on to finish fifth, placing fourth overall for the round.

In other 450-class action, Troy Lee Designs Honda’s Ben Townley looked on target to record his first race win of the season, leading every lap in the opening moto until he fell in the closing stages on the final lap, which relegated him to fourth. Townley rebounded in moto two to grab third place and close out the round third overall. Brett Metcalfe’s 5-4 finish aboard his GEICO Powersports Honda CRF450R put him fifth overall and privateer Honda racer Kyle Regal finished seventh overall with 7-7 moto finishes.

GEICO Powersports Honda’s Trey Canard went 4-1 in the 250cc competition to successfully score his first-ever overall Lites motocross win on his CRF250R. Getting a lackluster start in moto one where he rounded the opening lap in 10th position, Canard worked his way through the pack, picking off riders one by one to eventually take the checkers in fourth place. Getting a better start in moto two and running among the lead pack, he set a blistering pace before moving into the lead on lap 11 where he remained until the race’s end. Teammates Justin Barcia and Blake Wharton were never far away with Barcia going 5-3 to finish in fourth overall and Wharton going 6-4 to get fifth overall. Eli Tomac finished 10th overall, going 12-9 aboard his GEICO Powersports Honda CRF250R.

Red Bud Race Report...KTM Racing

Buchanan, MI – The largest crowd of the year turned up at the Red Bud Motocross National to witness an exciting weekend of racing on the anniversary of our country’s Independence.

In addition to Jagermeister/KTM rider Mike Alessi competing in the 450 class, KTM also invited 38 year-old veteran Motocross racer Mike Brown to fill in for the injured Tommy Searle. Brown had not competed in the 250 class since 2005 but was excited and ready for the opportunity. If that wasn’t enough, FMF/KTM rider and reigning GNCC XC2 Champion Kailub Russell decided to make his pro motocross debut in the 450 class at the Red Bud National.

Alessi and Russell were up first in 450 Group A practice. Alessi had solid practice times throughout the day and was able to qualify 8th heading into the main. Russell wasn’t as fortunate. "I struggled to adjust to the track in the first practice session and then I had a huge crash in the second practice session where I hurt my knee," commented Russell. He had to return to the pits to evaluate his injury and missed the remainder of the second practice session, and as a result, did not qualify. "I am disappointed in my performance today but I am more determined to qualify at another national. I am going to try to come back for Unadilla and hopefully will achieve my goal of qualifying for my first pro national."

Brown turned some fast lap times in the 250 practice but also had a few issues. He tweaked his knee in the second practice but still managed to turn lap times inside the top twenty. Not too bad for someone who got the call to race Red Bud three days before the race. "I had so much fun out there on the 250. It is definitely the fastest 250 I have ever ridden in my life," remarked Brown of his ride.

The 450 class was the first moto of the day. Alessi started 5th around the first turn and remained close to the top four as they made their way around the track. Unfortunately, he made a mistake on a step up jump at the back of the track part way into the first lap and fell dropping to 30th position. The remainder of the race he set out to make up as many positions as he could. He eventually passed half the field to move up to 10th place at the moto end. It was an impressive ride for such and unfortunate start.

In the second 450 moto Alessi again garnered a top ten start but made a few mistakes that dropped him back to 7th after the first few laps. He continued to push but lost two more positions before the moto end to finish 9th in the second moto. His 10-9 moto scores earned him 9th overall for the day.

In the 250 class Brown got out to a 10th place start in both motos. In the first moto, he started 10th and was holding his position when he made a costly mistake which caused him to stall the bike in a corner and dropped him to 24th. He spent the remainder of the moto picking off riders to eventually finish 19th. In the second moto he took his 10th place start and managed to use it to his advantage. After a few good battles with both Darryn Durham and Vince Friese, Brown was able to finish 12th in the second moto. His 19-12 scores earned him 17th overall in his first 250 motocross race in five years.

"I had so much fun today. I really enjoyed being here and revisiting with the fans. I love to come back here and race every once in a while in between the WORCS and EnduroCross races that I am currently contesting." Finishing right behind Brown were KTM privateer riders Killy Rusk and Phil Nicoletti. In addition, there were three more KTM privateer riders qualifying for the Red Bud main event: Tevin Tapia, Willy Browning and Greg Durivage - for a total of 6 KTM’s in the 250 main event.

Grant and Brayton Bring Baja to Colorado

JGRMX riders Josh Grant and Justin Brayton will be debuting Shift’s 2011 Baja Faction gear this weekend at Round 5 of the AMA Motocross Championship in Lakewood, CO.

Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey won his third overall in a row at round four of the AMA Motocross Championship at Budds Creek at the weekend and opened up his Championship lead to 36 points.

"It was a good weekend for us," Dungey said. "I felt strong in both motos and the whole Rockstar Makita Suzuki team has really put together a great race bike. We just need to focus on the next race and keep plugging away."

In Moto 1, Dungey fought his way into second after a sixth-place start and was making some good moves to secure the lead when he found himself off his bike. With the RM-Z450 still running and Dungey feeling strong, he remounted and focused on working his way towards the front. He realised his goggles were filled with dirt and he was forced to remove them mid race, but he soldiered on.

In Moto 2, Dungey got a great start and rode the first three laps in second. He kept looking for his chance to move into first, and with the unrelenting power of his RM-Z450, he soon found his way to the front of the pack. Dungey stayed in first place for the remainder of the moto, eventually taking the win. His 3-1 finishes gave him the best overall results of the day, putting him on top of the podium with his third overall win in a row.

Dungey's team mate Matt Moss was hoping that he'd be able to deliver solid results at Budds Creek and in Moto 1 he proved that he has been putting in a lot of practice track hours aboard his RM-Z450. With 2010 being his first year on the 450, and suffering an injury that sidelined his entire Supercross season, Moss has been steadily working his way up the rankings. He had a very strong showing in Moto 1 when he nearly broke the top 10, finishing 13th and fighting the entire moto. In the second moto, Moss battled his way to an 18th-place finish, which was good enough to put him in 16th place overall and his best finish of the season so far.

"Budds Creek was OK for me, though I wasn't very satisfied with my starts and position overall," Moss said. "Next weekend in Colorado, I'm going in there focused on getting in the top 10. I know I can do it."

Round 5 of the AMA Pro Motocross series takes place on June 26 at the Thunder Valley National in Lakewood, Colorado.

Geico Honda Race Report...Budd's Creek

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. - Rising motocross star Justin Barcia recorded a pair of podium finishes Saturday at the AMA Budds Creek Nationals to lead the five-man GEICO Powersports Honda team. Barcia took home a third and a second place trophy in the day's two 250cc motos and pocketed the second most points of the event.

"I wish I was first, but in this heat to come out of here second overall, I'll take it," Barcia said, referring to the hot and muggy conditions that sidelined several riders. "It was hot and gnarly and I'm just drained right now. I have zero energy left. I put it all out there.

"I've been working really hard on my stamina back home in Georgia and I'm staying in the best shape possible. That's my job. I've won a race and I want to win more. I just have a few more things I want to make better and it'll happen."

All five GEICO Powersports riders finished the day in the top 10. Brett Metcalfe was sixth overall in the 450cc class, while 250cc pros Trey Canard (seventh), Blake Wharton (ninth), and Eli Tomac (10th) all did their best to represent the team.

Atop the team's sole 450cc entry, Metcalfe had a pair of sixth-place finishes. The Australian stayed with the top riders in both motos and had chances to lead at various points but, like many riders, was eventually worn down by the heat. Nevertheless, his effort resulted in him holding onto the No. 3 position in the championship points.

"I kind of died in the heat again," Metcalfe said. "I just didn't have the juice to hang on towards the end. Your vision gets a bit blurry and your energy goes way down. You reach a point where you're just hanging on.

"I was pleased to have two good starts and overall I rode okay, I just never got comfortable on the bike. To have two decent finishes and stay third in the points on a day when I was a bit off is pretty good."

Canard logged seventh and eight place results on his machine, a good result considering a dubious start to the action.

"We blew a head gasket just before the first moto and the guys were thrashing to fix it," Canard said. "I missed my gate pick and ended up getting the last position, which threw my start off. I rode hard, I rode strong, but it was kind of like we were behind all day.

"The heat wasn't as bad for me. I think I'm getting more and more used to it and my body is getting stronger. Going 7-8 isn't what we wanted so we'll have to come back next weekend and do better."

Continuing his trend of showing flashes of brilliance, Wharton was as high as second place in Moto 2 but an unfortunate spill cost him valuable positions and he ended up ninth. Coupled with an earlier 11th-place result, he finished up as the day's ninth-best rider.

"The first moto didn't go so good, a had a bad start and went off the track twice, so I really wanted make it up in the second," Wharton said. "I got a good start and was third but I cased a jump and it was muddy right there and I went down. I'm not even sure how. I'm not riding as good as I can right now and I need to fix it."

Rookie sensation Tomac continues to figure out life at the top of the motocross world. He started with an 11th-place finish in Moto 1 and improved to ninth place in Moto 2.

"The guys at this level are the best in the world and Eli is figuring things out," team manager Mike LaRocco said. "The speed we saw from him when he won Hangtown, that was real. But it takes more than speed to win consistently at this level. You have to learn the strategy of dealing with the heat, of riding against other guys that are really good every weekend; these things take time. He's going to be fine. He's got the talent to be a world champion for many years."

KTM Race Report...Budd's Creek

Mechanicsville, MD – Jagermeister/KTM rider Mike Alessi finished 5th overall at the fourth round of the Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championship Series.

Alessi had a decent start in the first moto coming around the first turn in 4th position. He quickly moved up to 2nd place and was able to maintain a quick pace behind leader Andrew Short. After a strong ride he was able to finish the moto in 2nd place, holding off a hard-charging Ryan Dungey who finished 3rd.

In the second 450 moto, Alessi had another good jump but went a little wide and came out of the first turn in about 5th position. Near the end of the first lap Alessi made contact with another rider while going for a pass which heavily damaged the front brake causing complete loss of his front brake system. Unfortunately, having no front brake caused Alessi to take wide lines to handle the track which caused his lap times to fall. He eventually salvaged a 12th place position. His 2-12 moto scores earned him 5th overall.

In the 250 class, FMF/KTM rider Tommy Searle had a mid-pack start in moto one and had to try and work his way up. He struggled to make up some time due to a nagging shoulder injury and eventually finished 12th.

At the start of the second 250 moto, Searle got a good jump out of the gate but was hit from behind which sent him sailing across the track into the repeater banner and dropped him to the tail end of the pack. As he picked up his pace and began to make some passes he came to the triple step-up and took a middle line between two riders. The rider on the outside squared up the next turn cutting into Searle’s line sending his handlebar into Searle’s already injured shoulder. The pain was too much to finish the race and Searle didn’t finish the moto. He will return to his home in Murrieta, CA for another MRI. It is undetermined if he will race the next round.
