2010 ISDE Team Announced

Courtesy of American Motorcyclist Association
PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is pleased to announce the riders who will contest the 85th International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) for AMA Team USA. The World Trophy Team will headline the U.S. effort. This year, taking on the best off-road racers in the world Nov. 1-6 in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico, are: Destry Abbott, Mike Brown, Kurt Caselli, Jimmy Jarrett, Timmy Weigand and Nathan Woods.

"With the ISDE in Mexico this year, AMA Team USA is looking forward to competing so close to home, and this is the team that can put us on the box in 2010," said AMA Off-Road Racing Manager Chuck Weir. "These riders are hungry for success at off-road racing's crown jewel event, and each one of them is committed to doing what's necessary to win at this storied international competition.

"Our team announcement was delayed this year due to some international concerns regarding the location," Weir continued. "However, the Federation International de Motocyclisme, which sanctions this world championship event, recently finalized its report following a site visit. The report found the location suitable for this competition, and we are permitted to proceed. All systems are go for AMA Team USA at the 2010 ISDE."

The World Trophy Team is one of three premier teams that represent the U.S. at the ISDE. The other premier teams are the Junior Trophy Team, which fields four riders younger than 23-years old, and the Women's Trophy Team, which fields three riders. In addition, several club team members represent the United States at the event.
The AMA Team USA Junior Trophy Team will include Ian Blythe from Sedalia, Colo.; Cory Buttrick from Logan, Ohio; Nick Fahringer from Englewood, Ohio; and Taylor Robert from Scottsdale, Ariz. Blythe will ride a KTM 250 SXF in the E1 class. Buttrick will ride a KTM 450 XC-W in the E2 class. Fahringer will ride a Husaberg FE450 in the E2 class. Taylor will ride a Yamaha YZ450F in the E2 class.

The AMA Team USA Women's Cup Team will include Nicole Bradford from Avon, Colo.; Amanda Mastin from Whitehouse, Ohio; and Kerrie Swartz from Moore, Okla. Bradford will compete on a KTM 250 EXC. Mastin will race a Yamaha YZ250F. Swartz will ride a KTM 200 XC. All of the Women's Cup Team riders will compete in the E2 class.
Although it is not a recognized class by the FIM, AMA Team USA also designates a Senior Club Team of veterans from the club team members. This year, the club team will feature Billy Burns from Dorset, Vt.; Jeff Fredette from Beecher, Ill.; and Donald Williams from Minden, Nev.

Riders at the ISDE compete in one of three displacement classes: the E1 class, which features 100cc to 125cc two-stroke and 175cc to 250cc four-stroke motorcycles; the E2 class, which features 175cc to 250cc two-stroke and 290cc to 450cc four-stroke motorcycles; and the E3 class, which features 290cc to 500cc two-stroke and 475cc to 650cc four-stroke motorcycles.

Veterans anchor World Trophy effort

Abbott, from Peoria, Ariz., is an AMA Team USA veteran and World Trophy Team co-captain. In addition to the ISDE, Abbott contests the AMA Racing National Hare & Hound Championship Series for Monster Energy Kawasaki. The 37-year-old five-time AMA National Hare & Hound Champion is a four-time ISDE Gold Medalist and will represent the U.S. on the Trophy Team for the sixth time. Abbott is competing on a Kawasaki KX450 in the E2 class.

"The ISDE continues to be one of my all-time favorite events," Abbott said. "I look forward to it every year, and I'm excited to see what we can accomplish as a team. This year's team is extremely strong, and consists of five riders who know what to expect and what it takes to conquer this event and bring home a gold. Our rookie ISDE guy this year is Mike Brown, whose reputation speaks for itself. I know he's wanted to compete in the ISDE for a while, and I also know what he's capable of, so I'm looking forward to seeing what he accomplishes."

Abbott added that while the team expects to benefit from the event being held in the Americas this year, success will require a strong commitment from everyone involved.

"The fact that the ISDE is being held in Mexico this year has really helped with overall support," Abbott said. "The manufacturers are 100 percent behind us and believe we can do something special, but it's still going to be a lot of work and we all need to ride our best. For those who have never had the opportunity to attend, it's by far one of the coolest events to watch. It's the closest you'll ever get to see the best off-road riders in the world, so I'm hoping a lot of Americans try and make it down to support us."

Caselli, from Palmdale, Calif., is the other co-captain of the World Trophy Team and is returning to the team for the fourth time. The 26-year-old Caselli, who races off-road events for the KTM/FMF Racing factory team, has placed the ISDE near the top of his racing program the past few years. Caselli will race a KTM 250 EXC in the E1 class.
Caselli battled for the overall lead at the 2008 ISDE before crashing out on day three. In 2007, Caselli also led a significant portion of the event before ultimately winning the E3 class. In 2006, Caselli was a member of the championship Junior Trophy Team.

Brown, from Bluff City, Tenn., is a new rider this year. Brown, who currently competes in off-road events for the FMF/KTM factory team, is an accomplished national-caliber motocross racer. Brown won the AMA 125cc National Motocross Championship title in 2001. Brown will race a KTM 250 EXC in the E1 class.

Weigand, from Santa Clarita, Calif., replaced an injured Woods on AMA Team USA in 2009 and returns to the team for the second time. Weigand rides for Johnny Campbell Racing and is the 2009 AMA Racing Western Regional Hare Scrambles Champion. Weigand will race a Honda CRF450R in the E2 class.

Jarrett, from Salem, Ohio, also brings several years of experience to the team. Jarrett races the GNCC Series for GEICO Monster Kawasaki. This will be the Ohioan's sixth year representing the U.S. on the Trophy Team. Jarrett will race a Kawasaki KX450 in the E2 class.

This will be second trip to the ISDE for the 30-year-old Woods, who races WORCS for Team FMF Suzuki and competes in the AMA Endurocross series. Woods, from Paso Robles, Calif., will race a Husaberg FE570 in the E3 class.

Club teams out in force

While the Trophy Team, the Women's Trophy Team and the Junior Trophy Team are critical pieces of the U.S. effort, they are only a part of the AMA Team USA contingent that makes the trek to the annual event. Club team riders also will ride on the team.

The following riders were selected as club team members: Michael Berenbak from Reno, Nev.; Chase Bishop from Monterey, Tenn.; Jordan Brandt from Boulder Creek, Colo.; Sam Buffa from Brooklyn, N.Y.; Fred Hoess from Stanhope, N.J.; Nolan Irwin from Santa Rosa, Calif.; Jeremy Ketchum from Gallatin, Tenn.; Zachary Klamfoth from Canal Winchester, Ohio; Mike Monroe from Helena, Ala.; Duell Murphy from Huntington, Ind.; Wallace Palmer from Mullica Hill, N.J.; Cory Pincock from Pleasant View, Utah; Cody Schafer from Wheat Ridge, Colo.; Anthony Simontacchi from Rohnert Park, Calif.; Brian Sperle from Hayward, Calif.; Shawn Strong from Alpine, Utah; Jarkko Vainio from Park City, Utah; and Lars O. Valin from Eureka, Mo.

The AMA Team USA ISDE effort would be impossible without the support of various companies. These include Arai, Spectro, Motion Pro and KLIM.

America's motorcyclists can help support Team USA, and look good while doing it, by buying an official Team USA ISDE T-Shirt. All proceeds support the massive effort to transport the riders, bikes and crew to and from Portugal. To buy a shirt, just visit the AMA's online store at AmericanMotorcyclist.com > Gear > Apparel > 2010 ISDE T-shirt.

Tonight on DMXS Radio

Courtesy of DMXS Radio
Searle / Short / Canard / Beams / VURB Moto on DMXS Tonight

We have come to admire Honda Red Bull’s Andrew Short just as much off the track for the example he sets and the role model he has become for his many young fans. We’ll see what Shorty did during his break and get a report card on him half way through the outdoor school year.

It was a long time coming, but Geico Powersports Honda’s Trey Canard secured his first Lites outdoor overall at Red Bud after a tough and grueling battle to do so. They say the first is always the toughest, and the rest come much easier, so we’ll see if Trey just plans on running the table through the rest of the season if “they” are right. In all seriousness, we couldn’t let this milestone victory pass without having him on to celebrate just a little longer.

After finishing runner-up twice in the MX2 World Championships, Muscle Milk KTM’s Tommy Searle took the leap of faith across the pond to compete in the U.S. in 2009. While he’s shown flashes of his impressive speed and natural talent it has been a frustrating transition for the most part. The popular twenty-year-old has plenty of time to find his rhythm here in the states and we look forward to catching up with him tonight.

Motoendurance.net’s Robb Beams has teamed up with David Pingree to offer an unbelievable training package for no additional cost to go along with Ping’s new riding DVD that is sure to entertain while teaching. Robb will be on tonight to discuss the details, but you can go to www.Motocross101.com now for more information on the DVD.

Vurb Moto and DMXS have been kindred spirits from the very beginning and we are stoked to have Vurb’s Wes Williams and Brent Stallo in the studio with us tonight on the mics for the entire evening. We’ll be discussing just about everything motocross and beyond as we prepare to descend on Loretta Lynn’s ranch in a few short weeks.

Washougal MX Park Celebrates 30 Years of American Motocross with Motosport.com Washougal Retro National

Courtesy of MX Sports
MORGANTOWN, W.V. (June 22, 2010) - For three decades, the Pacific Northwest has been a staple of American motocross and to celebrate the 30 years of hosting an AMA-sanctioned outdoor national, Washougal Motocross Park and MX Sports Pro Racing announce the inaugural retro-themed event at the famed Southern Washington track. On Saturday, July 24, the Motosport.com Washougal Retro National, round eight of the 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, will commence with the world's best riders continuing their battle for the most prestigious motocross championship in the world.
As the original action sport, motocross has become one of the fastest growing forms of motorsport in the country and for nearly 40 years, American motocross has been the stage for epic races and even greater memories. Throughout that weekend, vintage will be the name of the game at Washougal. Teams and riders will be in the retro spirit with vintage plastics adorning the motorcycles and "old-school" gear featuring the colors and patterns of decades past being worn by the world's fastest competitors.
"There isn't a better way to celebrate 30 years of Washougal Motocross than to host a retro national," said Washougal Motocross Park's Brian Barnes. "This race has such a strong history that the opportunity for the stars and teams of today to pay homage to the legends of the past was simply too good to pass up."
To celebrate the riders and bikes of decades past, Washougal Motocross Park will showcase an exhibition for the fans featuring several of the most well known riders in American MX history as well as the machines that have helped make this such a legendary event over the past 30 years.
A large collection of former race bikes will also be on display and Washougal Motocross Park will supply several displays recalling the illustrious history of the lone motocross national in the Pacific Northwest. Fans are also encouraged to lend their support to the retro national by wearing their very own vintage motocross apparel and bright colors that were so popular in the sport throughout the last three decades.
The stars of American motocross hit the track on Saturday, but the retro activities start Thursday and continue through Friday with the popular and competitive amateur days. Hundreds of the region's fastest and most passionate riders will take to the track before the pros and get the weekend off to a strong start.

MX Sports Pro Racing Welcomes GoPro® as the Official Wearable Camera of the Lucas Oil Motocross Championship

Courtesy of  MX Sports
MORGANTOWN, W.V. (June 8, 2010) - In its continued efforts to usher American motocross into the new era, MX Sports Pro Racing welcomes GoPro as one of the newest supporters of the world's most prestigious motocross championship. As maker of the world's best selling and highest performance wearable HD video cameras, GoPro and its flagship HD HERO line will now serve as the Official Wearable Camera of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
Since the opening round at Hangtown and throughout the remainder of the 12-race 2010 season, HD HERO cameras will be the featured product of the outdoor nationals, worn by several of the world's best riders and integrated into broadcast coverage on AlliSports.com, SPEED and NBC Sports. Highlight edits and on board lapping footage, including the Rockstar Energy Hangtown Classic, can be seen at www.goprocamera.com/ourheros.
"Motocross is one of the most intense sports in the world," said Nicholas Woodman, founder and CEO of GoPro. "The speed, risk and athleticism is incredible. We're excited that MX Sports Pro Racing has chosen GoPro and our HD HERO wearable cameras to capture the intensity of the Lucas Oil Motocross Championship from the rider's perspective. You think these guys are quick and then you see if from their perspective and you realize...these guys are really quick!"
The GoPro HD HERO captures professional 1080p and 720p HD video with eye-popping clarity that is normally only seen from cameras costing considerably more. Used by professional athletes and cameramen alike, the HD HERO is now used regularly by production companies filming for the Discovery Channel, NBC and now the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. While the resolution and clarity is impressive, the HD HERO's 60 frames per second performance in 720p allows for jaw-dropping slow motion HD video to capture the world class talent of the best riders on the planet.
Ideal for the demands of motocross, the HD HERO camera's durable polycarbonate housing protects the camera from anything the track can throw at it.  Its compact size and minimal 5.9oz weight allows it to be worn on rider helmets without them even knowing it's there. GoPro cameras represent the ultimate in performance, durability and convenience; necessary requirements for a camera to be worn by athletes competing at the top level of the sport.
GoPro's incredible HD HERO camera retails for $299 and can be found at motorcycle accessory dealers nationwide or online at www.goprocamera.com
The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship continues this weekend with the Rockstar Energy High Point National Presented by Centra Bank from High Point Raceway in Mt. Morris, Pa., on Saturday, June 12. Gates drop at 1 p.m. EST.

Win the GNCC Points Leading Factory Suzuki RM-Z450

Win the GNCC Points Leading Factory Suzuki RM-Z450

Morgantown, WV (June 3, 2010) -- American Suzuki and its FMF/Makita Suzuki factory off-road race team has already taken their race-prepped Suzuki RM-Z450 to the top of the podium. Now you can ride it off of the box and take it home.

Off-roaders and motocross riders alike can benefit from this: an RM-Z450 stocked with the latest, trickest aftermarket parts. Suzuki will give away the actual bike GNCC points leader Josh Strang races on following the MotorcycleUSA.com Snowshoe GNCC on June 27. The team is eager to prove Strang’s four wins this season came on a bike anyone could own.

To enter, raffle tickets can be purchased during the next two rounds of GNCC Racing, including this weekend’s Wiseco John Penton GNCC, and the Snowshoe race in two weeks. All proceeds from the raffle go to RiderDown.org, the foundation that helps injured riders up.

"We couldn't be more excited," said Bruce Vermeulen, President of RiderDown Foundation. "To have Josh Strang's 2010 race bike up for grabs and benefitting RiderDown is unbelievable. The support of guys like Josh who are out there campaigning the GNCC series means a lot to us and the injured riders we work with. My hat's off to Racer Productions and American Suzuki for making this happen."

This Suzuki is stocked with the good stuff. Acerbis has supplied all the body plastics along with handguards and carbon fiber frond disc cover. It has CV-4 red radiator hoses plus that red radiator cap. Works Connection provides radiator braces for protection, brake reservoir caps, engine plugs and oil caps. The DID O-Ring chain hooks up great on Renthal sprockets. TM Designs supplies a chain guide and a rear disc protector. The bike also has a GPR steering stabilizer, Renthal handlebars and grips. The rotors are from DP Brakes. RG-3 provides a top-of-the line suspension setup. Zip Ty racing supplies their oil filter cap, brake reservoir extension and chain adjusters.

The engine has engine hangers from Tokyo Mods and the FMF stainless exhaust complete with Mega bomb header that leads to the titanium 4.1 canister contributes more power. Hinson Racing adds to the engine with their billet clutch cover, inner and outer billet baskets and the pressure plate.
The 2.5 gallon fuel tank IMS hydrates the bike, and the Motion Pro quick turn throttle system helps make that happen more efficiently.

The bike rolls on Dunlop tires with foam inserts, but the team will swap in some traditional tubes if the customer wants them. And of course the look is complete with N-Style Team FMF/Makita Suzuki graphics.

This is the actual bike Josh Strang wins races on—the team will build it fresh for Snowshoe, let Josh race it, then wash it off and give it to the RiderDown raffle winner when the race is over. Enter now for your chance to win a dream ride, and help donate to a great cause.

The 2010 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series continues this weekend with the Wiseco John Penton GNCC in Millfield, Ohio.

LANDMARK US GRAND PRIX NEXT FOR SUZUKI WMX1

Courtesy of Suzuki Press
LANDMARK US GRAND PRIX NEXT FOR SUZUKI WMX1

Team Suzuki Press Office - May 26.

The sixth round of 15 in the 2010 FIM Motocross World Championship sees the factory Rockstar Teka Suzuki World MX1 team head to California and the circuit of Glen Helen for the first US Grand Prix of the century and the first of the MX1/MX2 era.

Clement Desalle and Steve Ramon will fly out with other members of the squad today (Wednesday) 10 days after competing in Catalunya, Spain. The two Belgians hold fourth and sixth positions in the standings respectively with their RM-Z450WS' and have placed a Suzuki on the podium in four of the five races run so far this season.

After back-to-back events in Portugal and Spain the team packed up the necessary equipment last week and the riders seized the free weekend to train and recuperate after a hectic period of the calendar. Desalle was able to rest his right shoulder and Ramon could recover from aches and pains courtesy of his Qualification fall at Agueda and his unwilling first corner crash at Bellpuig.

The meeting at Glen Helen will represent the first US Grand Prix since 1999 and the first trip to the hillside venue at San Bernardino since 1992. The winner of the 500cc contest 20 years ago was none other than current Team Manager Eric Geboers, who now returns to the West Coast hoping to again celebrate victory, but in a slightly different form.

"Obviously it is special to go back there and the sport has changed a lot both technically and in the way it is organised in the last 20 years so we will see a different kind of Grand Prix," Geboers said. "We have not done too badly this season so far but my feeling is that both Steve and Clement have more to offer both in terms of their performances and the results we are taking; I hope we can pick it up in the United States."

The Grand Prix is the first of two fly-aways on the 2010 schedule and the trip across the Atlantic has added significance for the Belgian crew thanks to their new partnership with Rockstar Energy. "We have such a lot of respect for the people at Rockstar Energy and it is fantastic to be associated with a company like that," commented Geboers. "Going to the US means that the Rockstar management will be able to get close to the team and see what we are all about."

For the riders, Glen Helen is a chance to tackle one of the most renowned circuits in the USA. The fast climbs and drops of the layout under the Californian sun east of Los Angeles is a tantalising prospect for Desalle who competed in a round of the AMA Nationals in 2009. "I am so excited to go," the Portuguese Grand Prix winner said. "The track will be new for me but I have watched every AMA national for many years there, so I feel like I know Glen Helen a little bit."

Ramon is no stranger to the American soil but acknowledges the novelty of the event: "I was there in 2002 to do some practicing but I was not on the full track. I like it. Depending on the weather it can be hard underneath with loose dirt or sand on the top. I am looking forward to going there as it is new on the calendar and something different."

A rapid retreat will await the team after their US adventure with the Grand Prix of France at St Jean d'Angely set to occur the following weekend. The weather forecast predicts fine conditions for the weekend with Sunday set to be particularly hot with temperatures tipped to hit the low 30s.

TEKA SUZUKI EUROPE SET FOR GLEN HELEN MX2

TEKA SUZUKI EUROPE SET FOR GLEN HELEN MX2

Team Suzuki Press Office - May 26.

A trip across the Atlantic and a historic first US Grand Prix is the next challenge for Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2 as the mythical circuit of Glen Helen will host the sixth round of the 2010 FIM Motocross World Championship and its first GP event since 1992.

Ken Roczen and Arnaud Tonus will excitedly prepare for their inaugural major race meeting on American soil in which they both will aim to place the RM-Z250 in the winner's circle once more.

Roczen in particular will be eager to inflate his growing army of new fans and also reverse some of the misfortune his suffered last week at the Catalan GP when he missed out on his first overall victory with an electrical problem in the second moto at Bellpuig. The sixteen year old and his Teka-backed team have been superlative this season so far and have only dropped out of the top three once in the nine motos of 10 completed. With his first 2010 chequered flag obtained in the opening outing in Spain, Roczen is geared-up for more spoils on arguably the largest stage for the sport in the world.

"I have raced in the US before but on nothing like the scale we will find at Glen Helen," said the flamboyant and fiercely-talented German. "It was good to have a week off and now we will go to America to pick up exactly where we left off in that first moto in Spain. We will probably have a couple of days in Los Angeles before heading to the track and I'm hoping for a fun trip and weekend before we rush back for France."

Stylish Arnaud Tonus is also eager to make his American Grand Prix debut (although he did star at the 2007 Motocross of Nations at Budds Creek in which he won the Ricky Carmichael Award) and after some bad luck with a first corner incident in Spain is looking to get back inside the top five and collect the decent results that have elevated him to sixth in the standings. "I am really looking forward to this GP and it is a little bit of a dream to be racing at Glen Helen," the Swiss said. "I want to work on my starts and we will have to get used to the dirt and the track. It seems a little bit sandy and hard-pack with those long up-hills but I can't wait to get over there."

Roczen is second in the World Championship table and 26 points adrift of Marvin Musquin. Tonus needs eighth points to reach the top five. The Grand Prix of France at St Jean d'Angely will occur just seven days later and will mean a frantic dash back to Europe for the German team.

Glen Helen is renowned for its history and status as a centre-point for Californian motocross. The steep hillside drags will offer some scenic images and memories for the Grand Prix riders, the vast majority of whom have yet to compete on US shores in a meeting under an FIM banner. The weather forecast for the weekend predicts sunny and hot conditions.

Kawasaki Launces Mobile Web Site

Courtesy of Kawasaki
RVINE, Calif. Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A., today announced the launch of its mobile Web site, taking advantage of technologies available to reach active, on-the-go powersports products consumers.  The site, which has all the capabilities the company’s desktop Web site, is available for immediate use, and is addressable at m.kawasaki.com.

"As consumer usage of digital media has evolved over the past few years, we have also progressed our capabilities," said Chris Brull, Kawasaki’s marketing communications director. "The mobile site is a better way to serve the needs of an active online audience," said Brull.

"Our consumers are increasingly accessing the Web through mobile devices, and the mobile Web site is another way that Kawasaki is engaging them on their platform of choice," said Brull.  "We have been focusing on digital communications during the past few years, and this is another example of using the right technology to reach the right audience, " he said.

According to Brull, the site will give potential customers quick access to complete product details, including images, specifications, MSRP, and unique videos. The mobile site will provide updated, real-time information on an auto-refresh basis that’s updated in sync with the desktop site.

Brull cited the respected Pew Research Center’s 2009 Internet & American Life Project  research showing that 32 percent of Americans have used mobile phones to access the Internet, and 46 percent of those mobile users indicate that on- the-go availability of information is very important to them.

The broad application of Kawasaki’s mobile site will also allow dealership and trade show personnel to quickly access product information in the field and engage customers on a timely basis.  Customers will be able to opt-in to have the company’s ongoing promotions relayed directly to them through text alerts, via their mobile unit.

Other features of the new outreach tool include the ability for customers to receive immediate information when new products are announced. And, if they wish to follow-up with a local dealer, the site will automatically populate the dealer locator section with up to 10 dealerships in close proximity to the zip code provided by the user.

The site provides interfaces to immediately access Kawasaki’s Facebook and Twitter profiles, as well as its YouTube channel.

Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. (KMC) markets and distributes Kawasaki motorcycles, ATVs, personal watercraft, utility vehicles and recreation utility vehicles through a network of more than 1,475 independent retailers, with an additional 8,000 retailers specializing in Kawasaki power products and general purpose engines. AMA hires Jack Penton as Director of Operations

American Motorcyclist AssociationImage via Wikipedia

The AMA is pleased to welcome Jack Penton to the position of AMA Director of Operations. Penton, an AMA Life Member who was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999 in honor of his off-road racing success, will start on June 1.

As director of operations, Penton will report directly to AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman, and will assist him in managing the day-to-day functions of the Association. Penton will also have direct responsibility for the Hall of Fame.

"Jack Penton's breadth of experience in the motorcycle industry gives him a fresh perspective that I'm excited to bring to the AMA," Dingman said. "His hands-on approach will help guide our staff as we continually seek better ways to serve our members and more effectively promote and protect the motorcycling lifestyle."

Penton has more than 40 years of experience in the motorcycle industry. Early in his career he worked for Penton Imports developing Penton motorcycles, a brand founded by his father, AMA Hall of Famer John Penton. Later, he worked for Kawasaki Motors, Malcolm Smith Racing and KTM America. Most recently, Penton served with Tucker Rocky Distributing, a world leader in the distribution of motorcycle merchandise.

An AMA member for 45 years, Penton is also chairman of the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation (AMHF) Board of Directors, the fundraising body for the Hall of Fame, a position he will relinquish prior to June 1. Having served on the AMHF board for three years, Penton has watched the AMA make major improvements at a crucial time.

"I am eager to join the AMA staff, and I look forward to helping the Association become a more powerful voice for America's motorcyclists," Penton said. "The threats to motorcycling are greater today than ever before. Now is the time to secure the rights of motorcyclists in America, but to do so the AMA membership needs to grow many times over.

"The AMA has its priorities in order and has made the commitments needed to expand the organization," Penton said. "Now is the time for motorcycle enthusiasts everywhere to join us so that we can respond with strength to the forces that want to take away our rights as motorcyclists."

Effective June 1, those wishing to contact Penton can send him an e-mail at jpenton@ama-cycle.org, or call (614) 856-1900.
