“Ever since we filmed the first Gymkhana clip, I’ve been itching to not only get my professional racing friends to be able to come and play with me in this incredibly fun, sideways and technical motorsport, but also to make it possible for amateur drivers to participate, too ” says Block. “And Gymkhana Grid does exactly that.” Founded by Christopher Willard, the Gymkhana Grid series seeks to be more than a one-off event. The two then presented the Gymkhana Grid Invitational, as well as an inaugural grassroots event.

For those new to the sport, there will be workshops and schools to help grow the awareness of gymkhana on the grassroots level.
Then, on December 3-4th, the first Gymkhana Grid Ken Block Invitational will kick off at Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, CA. Competitors will range from rally racers like Travis Pastrana and Dave Mirra, to drifters like Vaughn Gittin Jr. and Tanner Foust. This will be the first event of its kind, promising to not only provide competitors with a new and exciting racing format, but also to give spectators a true all-out, tire smoking, sideways sliding race. And all of this is just a glimpse of what will be coming from Gymkhana Grid in 2011.
Ken Block brought the term “Gymkhana” to the masses through viral videos such as Gymkhana Practice (2008), and Gymkhana Two: The Infomercial (2009). These two videos set the standard as to what Ken saw as a modern interpretation of a traditional form of racing, and in turn gained tens of millions of views worldwide. With its origins dating back to a style of horse racing (also known as gymkhana), the sport requires not only physical driving skills, but mental training as well. Courses are set up with both precision driving and high speed in mind, with a pre-determined sequence of drifts, figure 8s, donuts, and slaloms that the driver must memorize.
While the sport of gymkhana has a niche following in countries such as Japan and England, Gymkhana Grid introduces much bigger courses designed for high-powered cars and versatile drivers who can call upon a varied list of motoring skills, from drifting, rally racing and road racing. HOT Houston Race Recap

There was a great turnout of fans at this weeks venue, Reliant Stadium, and the track conditions and layout would inevitably lead to some great racing.

Heat 1:
When the gate dropped for Heat #1, Honda of Troy was at the front of the pack racing for positions. Sean Lipanovich pulled one of his patented great starts (2nd) and settled into 4th at the end of lap one, while Levi Kilbarger followed suit and was battling for a top 6 position himself. On lap 2, Kilbarger had a miscue in the long table top rhythm section that sent the #412 tumbling. This put him out of the race and into the LCQ. #505 Lipanovich put together a great ride constantly under pressure which netted him some great television coverage and made his transfer directly into the main with a 7th.

Heat 2:
The Houston dirt provided great traction and this allowed the Eleven 10 Mods horsepower to shine. When Willard looked to his left he found Pourcel and when he looked to his right he found Sipes- two of the quickest qualifiers of the timed practice- and when the gate dropped the #92 rocketed out to the front of the pack. Willard nabbed the holeshot and established the lead. Willard put up a great fight with Poucel but gave up the lead on lap 2. Michael was under heavy fire for the entire heat but put in a valiant effort and qualified a solid 5th.

The LCQ start was no different - #412 Kilbarger took the lead from the pack and began to pull away just a bit. Levi held on to the #1 spot for 3 ¾ laps when a slight mistake and a wide line left the door open for Kyle Cunningham. On the next turn, 30 yards from the finish line, Tevin Tapia tried a kamikaze maneuver that would claim himself and Kilbarger, taking them both out of the race and allowing Troy Adams a spot in the Main.

Main Event:
The Guys starts in the main left a little to be desired and they were going to have their work cut out for them. Lipanovich was about midpack, 12th or so and Willard was bringing up the rear in 20th. The main wore on and the competition was fierce. Willard was able to work his way forward trying the entire moto to catch Troy Adams, who is a few points in front of him in the overall points. Lipanovich encountered a few minor issues that stifled his progress. Willard finished an eventual 12th and Lipanovich held on to the 18th spot in the main.

Overall for the season Willard sits 6 points outside of the top 10 in 11th. That is his goal in St Louis, to secure a top 10 overall for the season. Kilbarger has made every main event this season until this weekend and no doubt he will come to do battle in St Louis. He consistently learns from him track encounters and this one will be not different. Lipanovich brings more to the table each and every week and he picks up speed with every second on the race track. #36 of Durham is still on the mend with a slight shoulder injury and the team is unsure he will be racing the St. Louis or sitting it out to continue healing for the upcoming outdoors.

32nd Annual Motorama Arenacross

Hanover PA. The Harrisburg Farm Show Complex will host the 32nd annual Motorama Races & Shows on February 20th & 21st. Spectator doors will open on this mid winter extravaganza Saturday from 9AM to 10PM and Sunday from 9AM to 5 PM. This is the time for all motorheads to get a jump on the Spring racing season. Motorama combines 2 huge indoor shows with the excitement of live racing, all in the heated 24 - acre complex.

The main hall at the south end of the complex is home to the Speed Show. Stroll down the isles to see over 350 race and show vehicle related vendors,collectables and simulators. Vote for your favorite vehicle by supporting our charity, the Spina BiFida Association. With the support of Motorama fans and the voting public, over $220,000 has been raised for families in Central Pennsylvania. On the show stage will be a charity auction, musical entertainment and the ever-popular Ms Motorama Pageant. Ms Motorama 2009, _Jessica Jordan from Boonsboro, Md. will hand over her crown Sunday between 11AM and 1:30 PM.

The new Expo Hall at the North end has expanded to include the new Rod & Custom car show along with the Tunerwar Sport Compact and Bike Show. This will be the largest two-day show of its kind on the East Coast, with over 300 vehicles on display. There will be "live" entertainment on stage both days along with stunts by the Free Cycle Action Sports Team.

As always, the indoor racing provides the adrenaline for the 30,000 Motorama fans. The must see spectacle is the two days of high flying arenacross action in the 8000 seat Large Arena. Some of the best motorcross and ATV riders in the northeast will battle, handle bar to handle bar, while trying to tame the dirt jumps. New to the Arenacross track this year will be Remote Control 1/5 scale Baja trucks & buggies brought to you by Hostile Hobby.
Remote control competition will be a big part of Motorama 2010. Don't let their size fool you, these nitro burning 1/8 scale buggies, truggies, and monster trucks, run like the big boys without the driver. They are radio controlled from a 10-foot driver's stand and refueled during the race by a one-man pit crew. All the action takes place in the 1200 seat Equine Arena and sponsored by TQ Fuels.

The West hall will be home to the newest forms of Electric Remote Control Racing. There will be two tracks, one for 1/10 scale Remote Control racing on the short course brought to you by Harrisburg's own Hidden Hanger and a Rockcrawling competition on a purpose built layout of rock & dirt for three rockcrawling divisions run by Western Pennsylvania Rockcrawlers Association and is an Official qualifying event for the Nationals.

Destruction is the attraction in the Small Arena. This is Robot Conflict territory and run by the Northeast Robotics Club. All the robots are entered in a bracket according to their weight. Two bots enter a Plexiglas enclosed arena and battle for 3 minutes. The winner goes to the next round.

If it's oval racing you like, you have two options. In the Northeast Building there will be over 200 go karts competing on the 1/10th mile concrete oval. Racing is intense with 6-second lap times. The kids are the main attraction in the Quarter Midget Races in the Northwest Building. See boys and girls from ages 5 to 14 years of age test their skills on the concrete oval. These kids are serious about their racing and are the future stars of the sport. There are over 230 midgets registered.

The 2010 edition of Motorama is the largest event of it's kind in the northeast and is a sure cure for cabin fever. Troy Lee Designs Debuts Steve McQueen Helmet Line at Anaheim 1 Supercross

Troy Lee Designs today announced a three-year licensing partnership with the Steve McQueen estate, which is represented by GreenLight (www.greenlightrights.com), to produce a collector’s edition helmet line, to be unveiled to the public for the first time this week. The Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda Racing Team, which includes Wil Hahn and Cole Seely, will wear the helmet at this weekend's Anaheim 1 race on Saturday, January 9 at Angel Stadium.

The new SE3 helmet, which will be on display at the Troy Lee hospitality area at Anaheim 1 and at the Troy Lee showroom in Corona, will retail for $525, with only 700 units going into production. Features of the new SE3 helmet include Dual Density Shock Pad System™, and Dual Density EPS Liner, a newly designed nose guard, air ram top scoop intake, aggressive high flow mouthpiece, and quick-release cheek pads for emergency helmet removal, as well as a McQueen helmet bag.

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ricky Dietrich Wins Vegas EnduroCross Final Colton Haaker wins E3 Spark Plugs Junior Championship

LAS VEGAS, NV (November 21, 2009) –  After a close second place finish at the opening round, Ricky Dietrich, the defending EnduroCross Champion suffered an injury at round two of the 2009 Geico EnduroCross Series presented by E3 Spark Plugs and was not a factor in the championship.  But tonight, Dietrich played the role of spoiler.  KTM’s Taddy Blazusiak had the $50,000 Geico Triple Crown bonus on the line if he could win the Vegas final.  But Blazusiak did not get a great start and went down hard while trying to make up time on the first lap. 

Muscle Milk KTM’s Mike Brown set the fastest hot lap to get the day started.  Blazusiak had the second fastest time ahead of Sherco mounted Graham Jarvis, a top trials rider from the UK that is proving his ability at EnduroCross type events on both sides of the pond. 

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Destry Abbot competed in the Baja 1000 the day before and made the long drive to Vegas pay off by collecting the $500 Girardi Wealth Management Holeshot award to start the main event.  His lead was short lived however as there was a lot of bumping and banging during the first lap and most of the field got stuck in the in the large rock pile.  Christini KTM mounted Geoff Aaron took the lead and appeared to be on his way to his second main event win of the season but Dietrich pushed hard to close the gap and made a pass for the lead on lap six.  Aaron held onto second while Damon Huffman won a race long battle with Lucas Oil backed Colton Haaker for the final podium position.  Taddy Blazusiak recovered from his first lap crash to finish fifth but has an extremely sore knee. 

Blazusiak had already clinched the 2009 Geico Powersports EnduroCross championship and Geoff Aaron finished second ahead of Huffman.  By finishing fourth overall in the series, Colton Haaker won the inaugural E3 Spark Plugs’ EnduroCross Pro Junior Championship, the series within a series that allows riders aged 16-21 to compete for an AMA number one plate.  Husqvarna’s Cory Graffunder finished fifth overall and second in the chase for the Junior Championship. 

The Las Vegas EnduroCross final also played host to three classes of Amateur Grand Championships.  Riders qualified by finishing in the top two at the previous five rounds to earn a place in the Amateur finals in Las Vegas.  Geico backed Eric Rodgers won the Open Amateur title.  Sixteen year old Ryan Sandoval won the TrialsCross title and Joe Kopp, the former Grand National Dirt Track champion won the Vet Grand Championship.

(November 16, 2009) - Racer Productions, producers of the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series, is pleased to announce that off-road racing legend Randy Hawkins has been inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame. Hawkins, a long-time GNCC competitor who now owns and manages the Am-Pro FMF Yamaha team in the GNCC tour, is a seven-time AMA National Enduro Champion, 13-time International Six Days Enduro gold medalist and has won 73 AMA Nationals. He is a true ambassador of the sport.
"Randy helped raise the game for off-road racing both on and off the track," said GNCC Trail Boss Jeff Russell, who battled Hawkins for AMA Enduro Championships. "He was a fierce competitor, but he's also a great person and a real professional. His family was into car racing, and I think he brought that NASCAR mentality to bikes, which really helped the sport grow."
Hawkins started his racing career on go-karts and had early thoughts about car racing, but soon switched to motorcycles. Hawkins worked his way through the ranks until he won his first national in Texas in 1986. Hawkins signed his first factory deal in 1987 and won his first championship in 1988. From there, he launched his storied career in off-road racing.
Now, as owner and Team Manager of Am-Pro FMF Yamaha, Hawkins manages a team of championship-winning riders like Barry Hawk, Jason Raines and Thad DuVall and support riders Joe Scherer, Ryan Belue and Kyle Redman in a variety of off-road series.
"I'm honored and blessed with the career I've had racing motorcycles," Hawkins said.  "I never even knew anything about a Hall of Fame; I just rode motorcycles for fun on the farm. It took a little while to sink in because it's such a great honor. I couldn't have done it by myself; so many other people were involved through support and friendship to get here. It's a blessing and an honor I will cherish forever."
Hawkins is currently featured with other 2009 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famers on the cover of the December issue of American Motorcyclist.

Sherri Cruse to Ride Circle K inspired by at X Games 15

Bakersfield, Calif., July 29, 2009 - Top Women's Professional Motocross Racer and X Games Silver Medalist Sherri Cruse will be racing a Circle K themed Suzuki RMZ 250 sponsored by RWR/Circle K/Thirstbuster at ESPN's X Games 15 in the Women's Super X competition.

20-year-old Cernic's/AXO rider Sherri Cruse will be competing in the Women's Super X event in X Games 15, the biggest and most prestigious action sports competition on the planet. J-Law To Sit Out High Point Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing team owner heeds his doctor’s orders and will sit out High Point for a

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Former Supercross Lites champion, Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing’s Jason Lawrence, has decided to sit out the High Point (Mt. Morris, Pa.) round of the Lucas Oil AMA MX Nationals in order for the upper body injury he suffered in a recent practice crash – and re-aggravated this past week practicing at Glen Helen – to heal properly.

“I was told I’d be struggling with discomfort the entire summer if I didn’t let it heal,” said Lawrence. “I hurt it again last week at Glen Helen – before Freestone (Texas). Went out and rode practice and was like ‘No way.’”

The break in the action following this weekend’s High Point round will afford Lawrence more than two weeks (16 days) of heal time before he throws a leg back over a bike for the Lakewood (Colo.) MX National. “Yeah, I’m bummed I’ll miss High Point. It’s excellent racing there – made a couple moto podiums,” added Lawrence.

The team will still be well-represented at High Point this weekend as both Nick Wey and Max Anstie will boot up under the Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing awning. Wey’s no stranger to ripping around the undulating and unforgiving terrain of Mt. Morris, Pa., scoring a 2nd place podium finish back in 2000 on 125s. And Anstie is looking to put back-to-back top ten motos together after scoring one each at the last two Nationals (Hangtown & Freestone).
