Las Vegas, NV – FMF/KTM rider Phil Nicoletti had an up and down weekend at the Las Vegas Supercross race at Sam Boyd Stadium.
Nicoletti started the day well with three solid practices. He qualified 8th overall out of the West Lites riders after all practices were through and returned to the pits to gear up for the heat.
Nicoletti was in heat number two. He got a great jump coming around the first turn in 2nd position and was in 4th by the time they came inside the stadium from the outside start gate. He remained in 4th for the first few laps before he missed a jump and was passed by a train of three riders that were close behind him. Now in 7th, he maintained his pace and finished the heat only losing one more position to qualify 8th.
Nicoletti powerfully launched off the line at the start of the Lites main event but was pinched off in the first corner due to his outside start position. When they came inside the stadium he had fallen to the tail end of the pack and was sitting in 17th. After a rough start, Nicoletti began to pick up his lap times and began making passes. He quickly moved to 15th and then a lap later moved up to 14th. He was handed 13th after Canard crashed and remained there to the finish.
“My lap times were consistent tonight but I just struggled in some areas. I am glad to finish the season safely and look forward to outdoors starting. I definitely want to extend my gratitude to all my sponsors who have been there for me this season,” remarked Nicoletti

AURORA, Ill. – Feld Motor Sports announced today the inaugural Gravity Slashers Freestyle Motocross tour, kicking off in Charlotte, N.C. on January 2, 2010 and concluding in Cleveland, Ohio on March 6, 2010. The 15-stop tour will feature some of the world’s best freestyle motocross pros as they attempt to one-up each other with gravity-defying tricks.    

The sport is freestyle motocross and with Gravity Slashing tricks like Cliffhangers, Sterilizers, Tsunamis, and Hart Attacks, fans are sure to be on the edge of their seats all night! These feats may sound like accidents waiting to happen, but in reality, they are some of the most astounding aerial acrobatics you’ll ever see.

In freestyle motocross, the name of the game is “anything goes” in this adrenaline-filled contest staged in mid-air. Riders launch their bikes off ramps that propel them towards the rafters, performing mind-bending acrobatic moves as they soar through the arena airspace. CBS to Air Season Preview of 2010 Monster Energy Supercross Championship

AURORA, Ill. – Feld Motor Sports announced today that CBS Sports will air a one-hour season preview of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, Saturday, December 26 at 2:30 p.m. EST.

“This is a great way to showcase the 2010 Monster Energy Supercross championship to a network audience,” said Todd Jendro, senior director of operations, Feld Motor Sports. “Last year’s racing was epic and with the emergence of guys like Ryan Villopoto, Josh Grant and Ryan Dungey, we have an amazing season in store and CBS Sports will capture it all December 26 at 2:30 EST.”

CBS Sports will take an in-depth look at the defending AMA Supercross champion James Stewart’s quest to earn his third career championship while holding off rival Chad Reed and a host of up-and-coming riders that are eager to steal Stewart’s thunder. After an 11-win season in 2010, Stewart returns to the San Manuel Yamaha team in pursuit of excellence.

Former two-time AMA Supercross class champion Reed will switch from the Factory Suzuki team to the Monster Energy Kawasaki team. A three-time race winner in 2009, Reed chased Stewart down to the final stop of the season at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium in what is considered the greatest season in the sport’s history. Within the one-hour show, Reed gives fans a unique perspective on his 2010 campaign.

Reed joins AMA Supercross class sophomore Ryan Villopoto under the Monster Energy Kawasaki tent. Villopoto earned two victories in 2009 and is the only rider in history to beat Stewart in a race that he did not crash.

After winning the Anaheim 1 race last year, Josh Grant earned valuable experience in the premier class and will be prepared for battle when the gate drops on the 2010 season January 9. Moving up from the AMA Supercross Lites class is Ryan Dungey who successfully captured the Western Regional title last year. Dungey raced in select AMA Supercross class races in 2008, finishing as high as second at the Minneapolis stop.

Grant Langston Returns to Racing with O'neal

Simi Valley, CA - The last season Grant Langston raced was in 2007.  The 25-year-old Langston ­­had battled his way thru the AMA National Motocross Series to win the Championship title in the premier 450 class! Grant then went onto the Las Vegas US Open in 2007 and also walked away victorious taking the 2007 US Open title! 

After a World Championship title, 2 AMA Outdoor National titles, 2 Supercross Championship titles and a US Open title, it was clear, the young racer was in fact one of the most talented riders to ever grace the sport.

At the start of the 2008 Racing season Grants life took a tragic detour. Grant developed a problem with his vision.  At first, it was thought to be a minor eye issue but was soon discovered to be Cancer of the eye.  In true racers form, Grant battled the disease thru 2008.  In early 2009, Grant was given a clean bill of health from his doctors.  Indeed, the cancer was in remission and the unthinkable was told to Grant – He was clear to go racing!

Grants triumphant return to racing is no longer a dream.  Grant will be entered into Round one of the US Supercross series in Anaheim California on January 9, 2010. 

Grant is taking this journey seriously and has been carefully preparing his body, bike and equipment so that he has the absolute finest tools to compete throughout the 2010 season.

Grant has chosen O’NEAL protective apparel and Yamaha motorcycles for his triumphant return.  Langston will compete in the 450 class for both the US Monster Supercross Series and the US AMA National Motocross series in 2010.  “I was lucky and caught the cancer early.  I spent 2008 treating the cancer and with the support of my family and friends have since recovered well.  I have been training hard and am eager to be on the bike racing again.”  Langston went on to say, “O’NEAL makes some fantastic gear and I am excited to be racing in their new 2010 line.”

AMA Racing Champions Honored At Las Vegas Banquet

Speedway racer Greg Hancock wins AMA Athlete of the Year award, headlines lineup of champions honored at the AMA Racing Championship Banquet, presented by KTM North America

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- A sell-out crowd of AMA Racing champions and their families, friends and fans joined the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Friday, Dec. 4., to celebrate the successful seasons of some of the country's most-talented motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle (ATV) racers.

"All AMA Racers are born and bred with exceptional levels of dedication, talent and guts -- but only a few become champions," said AMA Director of Racing Joe Bromley. "At the Hard Rock this Friday night, many of our best were with us, and we turned the spotlight on them. Whether they are the very young or the not-so-very young, high-flying, bar-banging motocross racers or observed trials masters -- those magicians with two wheels and a motor -- they all got their due. It was our honor to recognize these incredible individuals for their successful seasons in 2009."

The AMA Racing Championship Banquet, presented by KTM North America, kicked off a two-day celebration honoring motorcycling's greats at Las Vegas' Hard Rock. On Saturday night, Dec. 5, the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame officially inducts its 2009 class.

Hundreds of top competitors, in disciplines ranging from land-speed racing to motocross to woods racing and everything in between, received their national championship trophies and No. 1 plates at the end-of-year gala banquet. A number of special awards also were presented to those who went above and beyond this season to make 2009 one of the most memorable in recent history.

The AMA Racing Athlete of the Year award was won by speedway racer Greg Hancock, from Costa Mesa, Calif. Hancock, the 2009 AMA Racing/USA Speedway National Champion, claimed an unprecedented eighth national speedway championship this year, surpassing the career total of the legendary AMA Hall of Famer Mike Bast.

Dave Joiner, promoter of Fast Fridays speedway events, which include AMA Racing/USA Speedway Nationals, accepted the award on Hancock's behalf.

"Greg really wanted to be here tonight -- he was scheduled to get in last night -- but because of some weather issues in Scotland, where he's testing right now, he wasn't able to get away in time to make it over here. As a multi-time national champion, a world champion, a youth champion, Greg has performed at the highest levels of the sport, and he is very deserving of this award. I know he is very thankful to the AMA for presenting it to him."

Chris Borich won the AMA Racing ATV Athlete of the Year. Pennsylvania's Borich had a remarkable season in the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) ATV series. Borich won 10 races in the 13-race series to give Suzuki its first GNCC title.

"The GNCC title has been a long time coming for me," Borich said. "We put a lot of time and effort into the program, and this year, everything just clicked. We got everything working good and put in the time training and felt real comfortable on the bike. To win the GNCC title and the AMA's ATV Athlete of the Year Award in the same year -- well, I just can't say enough."

Both of the Athletes of the Year also took home special automatic chronograph watches courtesy of Tissot, the innovative Swiss watch brand. The watches featured an automatic, self-winding function, a clear caseback and day and date display.

Eli Tomac, who won two championships at the Air Nautiques/AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships as well as the FIM World Junior Championship in Taupo, New Zealand, won the 2009 AMA Racing Sportsman of the Year award. The AMA Racing Sportsman of the Year is an individual who has elevated the sport of motorcycle racing through his or her unselfish demonstration of outstanding sportsmanship. Although this award is not always presented to a racer, the Tomac excelled on the track, on both U.S. soil and abroad.

Tomac said that his focus has turned to the next level of his career.

"Right now, I'm just getting ready for my professional career, which will kick off next spring," Tomac said. "I really appreciate winning this award and, first off, I would like to thank the AMA for helping me get to New Zealand, where I was able to win the Junior World Championship. That was a phenomenal event."

The AMA Racing Female Rider of the Year was Kacy Martinez, from Sunol, Calif. Martinez excelled in western woods racing, winning three national championships. This season, she earned No. 1 plates in the AMA West Hare Scrambles Championship, the World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) and at WORCS Week, a week-long, grand-championship-style event that combined woods racing, extreme enduro and grand-prix competition.

"This award means a lot to me," Martinez said. "I worked hard this year, and I'm just thankful for getting this award. I want to thank my mom and dad for getting me here, and my sister for coming to watch me tonight."

Paula Shank, from Petersburg, Va., was honored as the AMA Racing ATV Female Rider of the Year. Shank successfully defended her AMA Racing Extreme Dirt Track National Championship.

"It's been a lot of hard work, time and money," Shank said. "The highlight for me this year was winning every Women's race in Extreme Dirt Track. Key for me this year was learning how to be consistent, to ride conservatively in places where I might have ridden on the edge before. Of course, the award is nice, but just coming here is a real privilege."

The Youth riders of the Year were motorcycle racer Jake Lewis and ATV racer Mark Madl. Not only did Lewis win a national title in TT racing at the AMA Racing Dirt Track Grand Championships, the Kentucky rider also won the Expert 125 GP class at the AMA Racing Road Race Grand Championships. Florida's Mark Madl took the Youth Production (13-15) class championship in the ITP Tires/Moose Racing AMA ATV Motocross Championship.

"I just want to work hard and train hard and get overseas to the MotoGPs," Lewis said. "The best people in the world race there, and that's where I want to be."

Vet/Senior riders were honored as well. Michigan's John Grewe, who won two championships in the AMA Racing Arenacross Series, received the AMA Racing Vet/Senior Rider of the Year Award. Ohio's Dave Simmons brought home AMA Racing ATV Vet/Senior Rider of the year honors for crushing the competition in the Senior A (40-plus) class in the GNCC ATV series.

"When you've been doing this your whole life, it's so important to you as a racer to win an award like this," Grewe said. "It's such a great thing."

In addition to top competitors, the AMA Racing end-of-year banquet honors organizations and individuals whose contributions to the sport are made off the racetrack. Winners of these awards were the Square Deal Motorcycle Club for AMA Racing Club of the Year; Reads Racing, for AMA Racing Motocross Organizer of the Year; the North American Trials Council for AMA Racing Off-Road Organizer of the Year; BUB Racing Inc. for AMA Racing Track Racing Organizer of the Year; and Miles Mountain MX for AMA Racing ATV Organizer of the Year.

Dick Lague of Ignition 3 TV won the 2009 AMA Racing Media Award for his coverage of AMA Team USA at the 2009 International Six Days Enduro and the 2009 International Speed Trials by BUB.

The celebration of motorcycling greats continues Saturday evening, Dec. 5, when the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony welcomes the Class of 2009: industry innovator Robert Bates, off-road champion Randy Hawkins, motorsports giants Bob and Geoff Fox, suspension pioneer Gilles Vaillancourt, off-highway rights activist Mona Ehnes, longtime motorcycle safety proponent David Hough, legendary race team manager Gary Mathers and successful dirt-track racer and tuner Chuck Palmgren. In addition, the 2009 Concours d'Elegance - a collection of some of the country's most phenomenal motorcycles-will be on display poolside at the Hard Rock between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ricky Dietrich Wins Vegas EnduroCross Final Colton Haaker wins E3 Spark Plugs Junior Championship

LAS VEGAS, NV (November 21, 2009) –  After a close second place finish at the opening round, Ricky Dietrich, the defending EnduroCross Champion suffered an injury at round two of the 2009 Geico EnduroCross Series presented by E3 Spark Plugs and was not a factor in the championship.  But tonight, Dietrich played the role of spoiler.  KTM’s Taddy Blazusiak had the $50,000 Geico Triple Crown bonus on the line if he could win the Vegas final.  But Blazusiak did not get a great start and went down hard while trying to make up time on the first lap. 

Muscle Milk KTM’s Mike Brown set the fastest hot lap to get the day started.  Blazusiak had the second fastest time ahead of Sherco mounted Graham Jarvis, a top trials rider from the UK that is proving his ability at EnduroCross type events on both sides of the pond. 

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Destry Abbot competed in the Baja 1000 the day before and made the long drive to Vegas pay off by collecting the $500 Girardi Wealth Management Holeshot award to start the main event.  His lead was short lived however as there was a lot of bumping and banging during the first lap and most of the field got stuck in the in the large rock pile.  Christini KTM mounted Geoff Aaron took the lead and appeared to be on his way to his second main event win of the season but Dietrich pushed hard to close the gap and made a pass for the lead on lap six.  Aaron held onto second while Damon Huffman won a race long battle with Lucas Oil backed Colton Haaker for the final podium position.  Taddy Blazusiak recovered from his first lap crash to finish fifth but has an extremely sore knee. 

Blazusiak had already clinched the 2009 Geico Powersports EnduroCross championship and Geoff Aaron finished second ahead of Huffman.  By finishing fourth overall in the series, Colton Haaker won the inaugural E3 Spark Plugs’ EnduroCross Pro Junior Championship, the series within a series that allows riders aged 16-21 to compete for an AMA number one plate.  Husqvarna’s Cory Graffunder finished fifth overall and second in the chase for the Junior Championship. 

The Las Vegas EnduroCross final also played host to three classes of Amateur Grand Championships.  Riders qualified by finishing in the top two at the previous five rounds to earn a place in the Amateur finals in Las Vegas.  Geico backed Eric Rodgers won the Open Amateur title.  Sixteen year old Ryan Sandoval won the TrialsCross title and Joe Kopp, the former Grand National Dirt Track champion won the Vet Grand Championship.

The Nov. 21^st EnduroCross finals at Vegas’ Orleans may be the greatest indoor off-road field ever assembled – just making the main event will be a victory for some!

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Nov. 12, 2009) – You’d be hard-pressed to find a more impressive all-star off-road lineup that’s getting set here to boot up for the final round of the 2009 GEICO AMA EnduroCross, presented by E3 Spark Plugs, series at Vegas’ Orleans Arena (Nov. 21^st).

The list of riders scheduled to compete reads like a veritable who’s who of today’s top professional off-road motorcycle pilots. Descending on Vegas from all points of the globe – and led by newly crowned ’09 GEICO AMA EnduroCross champion, KTM’s Taddy Blazusiak – the Orleans Arena contest is just a week-and-a-half away in what should prove to be a thrilling test of man, machine and those insane obstacles set to separate man and machine!

“In order to just qualify for the main event you’re going to have to beat a number of champions,” added Karsting.

Working to elevate their names a number of younger racers like Jamie Lanza (Yamaha) and Kyle Redmond (Kawasaki), both of whom are ranked in the top ten overall in points – and top five in points out of the 16-to-21-year olds.

And, if the aforementioned racers weren’t enough, word on the trails is that 2007 GEICO EnduroCross champ, two-time GNCC champ and multi-time FIM Enduro champ David Knight (KTM) is planning on racing the final GEICO EnduroCross round. If he does, Knight would have a shot at wrecking the $50,000 payday Blazusiak has set himself up to win by taking the first two (of three) rounds of the GEICO Triple Crown of EnduroCross! Note: This would be a MAJOR payback for the 2007 GEICO Triple Crown where Blazusiak came in won the third round after Knight had won the first two!

KEVIN WINDHAM TO RACE U.S. OPEN

AURORA, Ill. - Feld Motor Sports announced today GEICO Powersports' Honda's Kevin Windham, of Centerville, Miss., will compete at this year's Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open inside Las Vegas' MGM Grand garden Arena October 9-11.

Windham has enjoyed success at the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open in the past having finished as high as second place in both 2000 and 2005. At his five Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open appearances, he's only finished outside the top three once ('06: 3rd; '05: 2nd; '01: 3rd; '00: 2nd; '99: 7th). At his last Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open in 2006, he used his 3-4 finishes for third overall.

In 1994 Windham began his professional career and earned the Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites class championship in 1996, winning six races on the season. In AMA Supercross competition, Windham has finished in the runner-up position three times, '08, '04 and '03.
