Barcia Wins, Windham Podiums for Pro Taper

Corona, CA – Round twelve of the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series went north of the border this week to the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. Pro Taper riders continued to dominate, with Justin Barcia taking his fifth win of the East Coast Lites series and Kevin Windham fighting back for his second Supercross class podium of the season.

After Barcia’s win streak came to an end last week in Indianapolis, the defending champ was out for revenge in Toronto. However, Geico Honda Teammate Justin Bogle drew first blood and narrowly edged out Barcia for the top qualifying spot. Second seed put Barcia in the first heat race, where he would easily take the win and set himself up with a great gate pick for the main event. In Supercross class qualifying Windham, also aboard a Geico Honda, nabbed the third spot just behind the championship points leader. Kevin rode to a solid third place in his heat race and easily transferred to the main event.

In the Lites main event, Pro Taper’s Barcia worked his way in to the lead on lap three and never looked back. "I was able to get a great holeshot but wasn't able to get through the rhythm section as fast as Roczen," Barcia said. "He was able to pass me so I had to trail him for a few laps. Then I saw a little opening and went for it. I was lucky enough to make the pass and just kind of ran a smooth race from there." Justin built up close to an eight second lead at the checkers and with this win, a 28 point lead in the championship points. MotoConcepts rider Jake Canada turned in one of the most impressive rides of the season, coming from 13th place on lap one to finish just off the podium in fourth. Teammate Tommy Weeck also logged a season best finish of seventh, just ahead of Geico Honda’s Justin Bogle.

Veteran Kevin Windham hit the deck hard in Indianapolis and was unable to practice all week. "It's a great day for the whole GEICO Honda program," said Windham, who captured his second podium in three weeks. "They did everything they could to get my bike prepared to cut my number of laps down to a minimum.” Despite the lack of track time and obvious discomfort, Windham dug deep and made his way in to third place with five laps to go. Pro Taper riders Kyle Chisholm and Bobby Kiniry also turned in solid top ten performances on the treacherous track.

The next round of the series will be in Houston’s Reliant Stadium on Saturday March 31st. Be sure to tune in to Pro Taper’s social media sites for updates throughout the day at all of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross races.
